The red robbers are back in Money Heist Korea – Joint Economic Area Part 2

The Korean adaptation of the acclaimed Spanish series La Casa de Papel graced our screens earlier this year with Part 1 of its tale, and now it’s finally time to reunite with our masked vigilantes. Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area Part 2 (what a mouthful!) is back to draw its conclusion, and it seems like the list of strategies and schemes in its arsenal could rival the length of its name.

We pick up right where we left off, with our robbers preparing to leave the Mint now that the end is within sight. Jeon Jong-seo (Bargain) declares that they’re escaping the very next day, and everyone gets to work packing up their scores of cash.

Our team’s dream is in their grasp, and they’re determined to succeed. For the Professor, played by Yoo Ji-tae (When My Love Blooms), it’s about tearing down capitalist exploitation by exposing its ugly truth to the world. But for Berlin, played by Park Hae-soo (Narco-Saints), it’s a matter of life and death — he’s staked his life on this mission, and he’s ready to become his foes’ worst nightmare.

An action-packed montage ensues, full of shootouts and even a Truck of Doom. In the midst of it all, there’s still time for the unpredictable variable of human emotions — we catch a glimpse of Kim Ji-hoon (Behind Every Star) and Lee Joo-bin (Love in Contract) gazing longingly at each other, seemingly continuing their loveline from Part 1.

In case we had any doubts about the Professor’s sprawling network of connections, we’re shown that he still has one more trick up his sleeve. The chessboard will be shaken up by the arrival of a new character — who is exclusive to the Korean adaptation, yay! Looking fierce with her blunt bangs and leather jacket, Im Ji-yeon (Rose Mansion) gruffly introduces herself as Seoul.

As someone who wished the show capitalized on its unique context and delved deeper into the North-South tensions in its first half, I’m excited for this new development. The stakes haven’t just been raised, they’ve been rocketed sky-high — as bombs explode and chaos ensues, Woo-jin declares to the Professor that the real negotiation begins now.

Directed by Kim Hong-sun (LUCA: The Beginning) with scripts written by Ryu Yong-jae (My Holo Love), Kim Hwan-chae, and Choi Sung-joon, Netflix’s Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area Part 2 will release its remaining six episodes on December 9.
