The First Responders come to the rescue in new teaser
by Jenzy
Save a life or catch the bad guy? In the latest teaser for SBS’s upcoming action drama The First Responders, we see what it looks like when local heroes need to make high-stakes decisions under pressure.
The drama does this by looking at the dynamics between three first responders in different fields. From the police force, we have the hotheaded Jin Ho-gae, played by Kim Rae-won (LUCA: The Beginning). He’ll stop at nothing to catch criminals, which puts him at odds with his equally determined colleagues at the fire department: firefighter Bong Do-jin, played by Sohn Ho-joon (Was It Love?), and paramedic Song Seol, played by Gong Seung-yeon (Bulgalsal: Immortal Souls). Since the two are in the business of saving lives over nabbing baddies, they’ll butt heads with Ho-gae as the three of them navigate the best course of action in emergency scenarios.
The teaser gives us a clear impression of this trio’s dynamic as they all respond to a Code 0 kidnapping alert. While Do-jin and Seol drive over to the location in a blaring ambulance and police escort, Ho-gae speeds alone on his motorcycle and cuts them off, yelling at them to turn off their siren as to not tip off the kidnapper.
We see more of Ho-gae’s single-track mindedness as he argues with a firefighter and says in voiceover, “Look, I don’t care. You firefighters can take care of the victims. I’m catching the perpetrator.”
We’re then given a rapid-fire montage of first responders working to get into the building and put out the fire, and we end with a scene of Ho-gae searching for the kidnapper in room, unaware that they are right behind him.
Written by Min Ji-eun (Investigation Couple) and directed by PD Shin Kyung-soo (Nokdu Flower), The First Responders will air on SBS premiering on November 12.

Wow, if that’s how fast paced it is throughout the season we are all going to be needing some mindfulness classes. I am with Hogae why would you raise the risk level to the victims by announcing your arrival the sirens are only needed when in the distance to clear the road but once nearer the venue silence and speed are key.

A few thoughts
1. Severe availability angst as a US viewer. Over at CURTAIN CALL I have Manager Jung using his Intelligence Service contacts to see if they can find out if and where SBS’s TFR will be available subbed in English. No report yet.
2. Just noticed the 19 content rating.
3. Kim Rae-won is a total blank slate for me. I wouldn’t be surprised if his character isn’t hosed but a firefighter by the end of episode 2.
I hope I will be able to watch this drama.

I read somewhere it’s Disney +. If that’s true we have no hope.

I'm excited for this. Firefighters and paramedics as may characters are rare in dramas, so this could be fun.

Oh, I'm gonna like this drama! So happy to see Kim Rae Won again! Hot headed at that! I like the mash up of firefighters plus why not be a detective on the scene as well? Sounds like a good mix and did I say Kim Rae Won? Go get 'em!

Ahhh this looks so good! I'm hoping for another "first episode only is 19+" the way Inspector Koo and Blind were. I totally want to watch this!
