Premiere Watch: May It Please the Court, Love in Contract, Seasons of Blossom

There are so many premieres this week we’re breaking them up by slots, so no one gets a sugar drama rush. Filling out our Wednesday-Thursday slot are three new dramas — courtroom hijinks, contract marriages galore, and young love. It’s gonna be a good week, Beanies.

May It Please the Court

Premiere Watch: May It Please the Court, Love in Contract, Seasons of Blossom

Time slot: Wednesdays*
Broadcaster: Disney+
Genre: Drama, legal, mystery
Episode count: 12

Reasons to watch: If the promos are any indication, this is going to be a really fun enemies-to-lovers story, with Jung Ryeo-won and Lee Kyu-hyung as two lawyers who are not only polar opposites, but at each other’s throats. Now, if the drama can keep the bickering and banter at 80% and the law/murder at about 20%, I think that would be a good balance. With a newbie writer behind the script, maybe we can hope she knows what audiences really want?

TL;DR: Jung Ryeo-won back in another legal role (but that’s okay because she’s awesome), Lee Kyu-hyung, lawyers fighting like cats and dogs, also murder

Love in Contract

Premiere Watch: May It Please the Court, Love in Contract, Seasons of Blossom

Time slot: Wednesday-Thursday
Broadcaster: tvN
Genre: Rom-com
Episode count: 16

Reasons to watch: If you haven’t heard of Love in Contract yet you’ve been living under a drama rock. tvN is pushing this one hard, and with Park Min-young in the lead — and a perfectly and wonderfully ridiculous premise — I can’t say I blame them. I strongly disliked Park Min-young’s previous drama, so I’d do anything to see her perky and fun again. Then, they had to go and throw in Kim Jae-young and Go Kyung-pyo as her contract husbands. I’m in. Bring on the calendaring! Bring on the love triangle!

TL;DR: Park Min-young rom-com queen, Kim Jae-young oppa, justice for Go Kyung-pyo, should be a smorgasbord of rom-com tropes

Seasons of Blossom

Premiere Watch: May It Please the Court, Love in Contract, Seasons of Blossom

Time slot: Wednesdays*
Broadcaster: Wavve
Genre: Youth, romance
Episode count: 16

Reasons to watch: Pulling from the webtoon of the same name, Seasons of Blossom tells a wistful tale of young love, leading with the story between Seo Ji-hoon and the ever-adorable So Joo-yeon. Rather than the breezy high school romances we’re used to seeing, it looks like this drama will have a bittersweet vibe, and be as much about love as loss. Unfortunately, being on a small OTT service has cut into the drama’s visibility a bit, but between the rookie cast (sorry, Seo Ji-hoon, you know I love you) and the beautiful way they’ve handled their promos — and the tone they seem to be going for — this is actually the drop this week that I’m most looking forward to.

TL;DR: Seo Ji-hoon oppa, atmospheric-looking youth romance, young love and loss, webtoon adaptation

*OTT services keep an uncomfortably tight lid on their episode release schedule so please bear with us and we’ll update this post if necessary.

All three of these could stay on my watchlist weekly for their duration but Seasons of blossom is the one I think will be the most realistic. School romance/coming of age is one of my favourite genres and rarely goes wrong unless they go too heavy on the bullying. This is a feature of this storyline however the actual bullying scenes are limited in the webtoon and the emphasis is on the after effects so I hope they stick with that and the humour within the younger brother’s friendship group can’t wait to see that played out. This could be a great vehicle to launch the careers of the rookie actors.

So many dramas premiering this week, and so less time !!! Since the court drama and season of blossom will be airing one episode per week, I guess I will get enough time to check everything. PMY's last drama was kind of meh, I will "love contract" 2 weeks to see if its worth watching.

I'm ready for May It Please the court and Love in Contract to start. I'm craving tropey rom-com and some good bickering (also, finally an Lee Kyu-hyung drama I'm actually excited about!). Hopefully Disney+ think twice about their scheduling and opt for twice a week release like other platform. Once a week is just too much torture to watch live.

I’m very pleased I’m actually getting Love In Contract in my region (in Viki) and hoping it will be good enough to keep me entertained once Good Job finishes.

School dramas don’t appeal to me so I probably won’t try Seasons of Blossom but maybe May It Please The Court depending on how murder-y it turns out.

I'm also unreasonably excited about Love in Contract. In theory, I will wait until there are two episodes to binge/decide. In practice ... well, you know the adage about the difference between theory and practice, right?*

Re Seasons of Blossom - I am also not a fan of school dramas, especially when all the actors are well into their 20s. So Joo-yeon in a school uniform again? No. Just no. She's 28. I'm not sure why she grates on me so much but she does - apologies to her fans.

*In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice - there is.

I feel the same about So Joo-yeon. I already thought she didn't fit playing a high schooler in A Love So Beautiful, yet she's playing a student again. Just because she's short doesn't mean she looks like she could be in high school.

OVE IN CONTRACT is finally here. I hope it is as good as it promises to be.

BTW: In my entire legal career I have never once uttered the phrase "May it please the court". Perhaps that is because whenever I saw counsel use that phrase the court was never pleased.

It’s Lee Kyu Hyung, and then Jung Ryeo Won, and law drama. There is no way I’ll just pass this one.

Love in Contract looks like a fun rom-com and I like the actors :)

May it Please the Court is another legal drama with Jung Ryeo-Won playing the same role again and again... And there are murders of course.

Seasons of Blossom looks like a cute drama. I liked So Ju-Yeon in Romantic Doctor but she overacts the cute part when she plays teenagers. For Kang Hye-Won, I never could get over her rap in Produce 48 and the fact she ended in the final group so I really hope she's a better actress.

I still can't get over how Kim Min-kyu legitimately didn't make the final group of Produce X 101. The Court didn't disclose the total number of votes, so he could've been the X member, and I know he's untalented, but he was a visual and popular, so I can't believe he wasn't manipulated out.

I haven't watched Kim Min-kyu or Kang Hye-won's web dramas, so I hope they can act too. Honestly, looks-wise and age-wise, I prefer their casting over Seo Ji-hoon and So Joo-yeon's.

OMG I'm just after seeing that May it Please the Court has dropped in my region for Disney+ !
Is this the start of better things from Disney?
Ridiculous level of excitement for a woman of my age at the moment...

Oh! 2 of them are in Viki (US). So will check out both.
Love in contract should be fun. I am not expecting anything great, but just some fun and entertaining drama.
I have missed good school dramas. So hope this one is good.

I don't know why Disney chose this particular drama, but May It Please the Court is amazingly available outside of Asia (Canada, UK) and on Hulu.

Looking forward to Love in Contract! I will confess I'd probably be more drawn to May It Please the Court more if it was 60-70% murder cases, 30% romance ahaha
