Jung Ryeo-won and Lee Kyu-hyung team up in I Will Start the Defense

Upcoming Disney+ original I Will Start the Defense may not have much in the way of teasers yet, but its star-studded veteran cast is already poised to drum up excitement. Jung Ryeo-won (Diary of a Prosecutor) headlines as a capable defense attorney, with Lee Kyu-hyung (All of Us Are Dead) starring opposite her as a tenacious public defender.

Protagonist Noh Chak-hee (Jung Ryeo-won) is described as a cold-blooded lawyer who will do anything to achieve success. The ace of her law firm, Chak-hee will stop at nothing to obtain acquittals for her clients. However, due to a problematic case, she ends up having to work as a public defender in order to avoid getting suspended.

That’s how she meets public defender Jwa Shi-baek (Lee Kyu-hyung), who is upright, principled, and passionate about his work. Despite graduating at the top of his judicial class and having the freedom to pick any career path he wanted, Shi-baek chose to become a humble public defender.

They’ll be joined by Jung Jin-young (Bulgasal: Immortal Souls), who plays Jang Ki-do. As the chairman of the Jang San law firm, Ki-do harbors immense ambition.

Billed as a legal mystery, the drama will showcase how the two public defenders with completely contradictory personalities work together. Though they keep butting heads, they’ll need to put aside their differences in order to uncover the truth behind a serial murder case with a string of wealthy elderly victims.

Our two leads are no stranger to playing legal professionals; this will be Jung Ryeo-won’s third time (after Witch’s Court and Diary of a Prosecutor) and Lee Kyu-hyung’s fourth time (after Innocent Witness, Forest of Secrets, and Doctor John). It’ll be interesting to see what they bring to the table, and what kind of spin they’ll put on their characters this time around.

I Will Start the Defense is based on a nonfiction book of the same name. Directed by Kang Min-gu (Itaewon Class) and written by newbie Kim Dan, the 12-episode drama is set to air later this year.

I know, I know. You’ve been telling me that for years. One of these days 😛 It just really is baloney that they don’t show their kdramas in the US. Of course, I’m still mad at AT&T over DramaFever.

I enjoy thinking so 😠

i also enjoy thinking about that! it has become so hard to figure out where shows play and too many platforms that DO NOT work in our best interests!

It doesn't work for me with my VPN, although I've been told another VPN works. I hate it because I pay a Disney Subscription and I don't even get the dramas in my region when they are over (this is what happens at least with Netflix!).

I use Surfshark and it’s been working well. I have to make sure I’m on VPN before opening my Disney app for it to connect properly.

There is nothing I can do. I tried everything. With netflix I have to go with incognito tab and then log in with VPN, but with Disney nothing is possible. Not incognito tab, not app, no nothing. I can't change my VPN until March next year... So I am watching all Disney drama not on Disney.

I would cancel my VPN and try getting the money back, then get a new one. 😆

Will this be the first time I will be seeing Jung Jin-young playing the immense ambition side? If it will be, this is different and I'm looking forward to his character here.

I knew it was Jung Ryeo-wons third legal role but Lee Kyu-hyung's 4th?...wow! What a resume. How did I not recognize him in Forest of Secrets.

He stood in the background for most of FOS, but became tantamount to the story by the end.

Disney+ AND a legal drama...oof. Despite those caveats I really like both leads so I'll probably at least check it out.
