[Drama chat] So they’re really replacing Jung So-min in Alchemy of Souls?

alchemy of souls jung so-min
You guessed it! This is your place to vent your hot drama tears about the recent confirmation that Jung So-min will not be returning for Alchemy of Souls part 2, and that her character will instead by played by Go Yoon-jung.

Now, with some other dramas behind them, the Hong sisters do have some ‘splaining to do, but also, this *kinda* makes sense? I mean, it’s a giant risk to replace your leading actress mid-drama — especially on purpose — and I’m of the opinion that the risk will either pay off with something amazing that can wins us over with its epicness… or it will fall flat, crash land, and make us wish that we too could harness some magical lake energy and wreak serious havoc.

How are we feeling about this Alchemy of Souls part 2 casting confirmation?

Let the chatting begin!

I am ok with JSM being replaced. To be honest, she is the weakest link in this drama. there is something about either her acting or her presumably botox that kinda stop her from acting. she constantly has the same facial expression throughout the drama, whether its in a romantic scene, a violent scene, a scene she is wither one of the elders or a scene where she is with other maids.

soo... i was thinking, what if Jung So-min actually doesn't return for season 2 and there will be another actress replacing her as mu deok. the actress that comes to my mind is suzy. what if they cast her as mudeok for season 2. i mean they look so much alike... and mudeok will be suzy and naksu go yoon jung. i know im just crazy but what if.... im waiting now for the last two episodes!!!

Absolutely devastated that Jung So Min is being replaced and really don't care about the reasons after spending over 20 hours growing attached to her character, along with others in this story. What a tragic shame! Frustrated by claims that the final episode of season 1 explains things when it really doesn't. Season 2 will have a lot to live up to

Do not replace her she is the main reason for show, chemistry between him and her is the reason of show. She reason I watched it in 1st place. No reason to watch second show she is the show!!!!!!!!

I don't know everyone's so cool about this. I can't deal with the fact that this is how its ending. A new actress is just not going to be the same. I loved this series. Why are they ruining it like this. Go Yoon Jung is a rookie. This is so disappointing...

Stupidest idea ever to replace Jung So Min!! FURIOUS at this news. Just give us one good season and call it a day. You have a love story basically and you replace the actress we love and who’s done a great job —there’s NO justification for that. I feel like this only happened because Netflix is involved. Please don’t let this ruin KDramas

This is really bad from the Hong sisters, the viewers opinion matters, they should have considered how we felt, some of us get emotionally attached to movies and we are already contacted to Jung so min, this is wrong #bring Jung so min back in season two, I couldn't sleep, this is painful.

It would make sense if Jung So-min continues to be Jin Bu-Yeon (since that’s her body & Mu Deok was just a name given to her since she had amnesia) and if Go Yoon Jung is Naksu. They needed a resolution since both souls were sharing the same body. Then the Jin family can have their daughter back and UK can have his love.

Maybe Jung So-min will cameo at the end as the revived Bu-yeon? It looks like her body was rescued…

“We haven't seen anything as dramatic as a totally burned body being brought back but considering the news has been rumoured for awhile I think it's been part of the plan.”

Well well @bethy80 look what happened 🥲 though I don’t think Uk’s body was burnt to a crisp yet, when he rose like the Phoenix. Still beggars disbelief but hey, the previews did show GYJ at the end sigh.

Hehehe Yes, I did think of that at that moment... Although you are right. He wasn't ashes (like Naksu or doggie Gwigu for that matter) and burning a body acutally takes quite awhile... perhaps since the Ice Stone can be fire or water or whatever it just used that fire as fuel...
But it's probably good(ish?) precedent if they want... But I just really want there to be a point of no return so that some deaths are actually deaths. Otherwise where is the impact/sacrifice?

Am not happy with the replacement of Jung so min,why did u have to change her without giving us a specific reason, bad meanwhile why did u chose December, because a lot of people will lose in interest in the movie,I hope u produce the part2 as soon as possible,Try and use Jung so min because I love the way she played her role in the movie, and she is also suitable for the role

I wish they didn’t do this to us🙁 I was so attached to mu-deoks characters I’ll find it so weird now that they changing it to someone else I already know that I’ll HATE season 2 I wish the producers actually cared about the viewers feelings I genuinely can’t imagine anyone else with Jang uk other than nasku inside MU-DEOKS body I love mu-deok so much already and now they just gon get rid of her?

I’m still in mourning over the ending! Episode 19 should have been the finale, and they should’ve left episode 20 to open the next season. It really felt very rushed and thrown together, just so that season 1 could end on a (terrible) cliffhanger.

JSM and LJW are the stars of the series, and their chemistry was what kept me hooked until the very end. JSM played all 3 characters to perfection, and I honestly think she’s raised the bar that high, I’m going to be very disappointed by season 2. What’s the point of building up relationships and all that chemistry for 20 seasons, to have it crash and burn at the end? (Typical Hong sisters drama)

Can we please petition for JSM to stay on in season 2? Because it will definitely not be the same without her.

I've very disappointed with the switch.. I have never found a series or drama that I felt that season two, was half as good as season one, and when they go so far as to switch actress's.. all I can say is, I hope the writers enjoy their drop in ratings. as far as awards this year, season one will grab a few, season two no one will want to talk about..

The JSM fans protesting and angry about this seem to have forgotten that this is a decision of JSM, too. It is not as if she was fired.. she must have her reasons for not signing up. As her fans, shouldnt they also respect her choice?

She never confirmed that she wasn't returning. All she said was that they were discussing Part 2. And to think only one news media outlet released the issue of changing the female lead one would question if they are denying everything to prevent spoilers. We didn't even get an exit interview from JSM (which we recently got from Seung Ho saying goodbye to his role as the Crown Prince published in many media platforms). The question is, are they pranking us?

Finally, a place where I can just AAAARGGHHHHH 🤬🤬skdhskska kskafejamabzkskalksjsks kmsishekdndndjxjxn… 😪

This was my fault. After Hwayugi’s trash fire ending I said I wouldn’t fall for any more hong sister dramas but I did. De Luna was hard but at least it made sense to end that way. Can we just get one regular ending please 😭😭 Can we have one ship that’s not on fire??!
That being said, I just want Jung So Min to continue to play Jang Uk’s love interest. This whole Go Yoon Jung business is making me feel like it’s 2018 all over again 🥴
A good show really isn’t something special, just something that viewers can love and accept.

It seems a poor marketing decision to not have Mu Doek, played by Jung So Min, in part two of Alchemy of Souls. The story ends this way for Mu Doek, Jang Uk, and scoundrel Jin Mu? Besides making no sense, it makes the storyline pathetic. A lot of fans of the series will likely tune out part two after an episode of two; good luck Netflix. Jung So Min made the story a success with viewers; ratings will plummet for part two.

Really unfortunate choice to not renew her for the second season. She was the one to win me over in the series in the first place. Doubt I will seriously watch the second one. Quite a burden for the new actress

Season Two of Alchemy should have included both ladies as it did in Season One. Just as the writers wrote both characters you could have the back story played by Go Yoon-jung and the current love story continue with Jung So-min, which is who we'll fell ine love with. I hope Season Two isn't disappointing. I'm already upset that it's being released in episode format instead of all at once.

I think the bracelet she wears changes her face. It will be weird for the jang to be pining over mu deok while being married to someone else. Maybe at the end of the season she comes back?

Hated part two so far. Bring back Jung so min.
Super lame they recast her. I hope somehow they write her back in the script.
I probably won't watch anymore until it's all wrapped up and I hear they brought her back. ...
Until then... I'll probably just move on from this series. ..
I absolutely loved the first 20 episodes though. Too bad the momentum got lost with out the main actress. .. Jung so min, you are dearly missed.

I just started to watch this series, alchemy of souls, and I really like it. This is the very first foreign series I’ve watched. But I’m so disappointed that Jung So-min was not casted for Part 2. She and the leading man had such great chemistry. Can she be re-casted again?

I think it sucks.... SHE made the show, as far as I am concerned... I loved her expressions! I just started watching the second season... and the replacement ... through no fault of her own... simply is a disappointment, as I was looking forward to Jung So-min!! I am not going to bother with the rest of the season... it is just not the same.

Wow. I was sooooo looking forward to season 2 but left so underwhelmed. The show really lacking the mudeokgi charisma with all the characters in the show from Jung Uk to the prince. They should have started off from the ending of season 1 instead of 3 years later and then using dialogue to explain what happened before. So strange. And how did the burnt to ashes body of Naksu suddenly become the life body of Buyeong? The story has become too contrived and a bit boring. Re-watching season 1 for the 4th time is still more entertaining

Okay, I really don't get it! Mudok'body was bu-yeon's body...it was Naksu's soul. So if they got the body out...it would be Mudok's body with the original soul which is Bu-yeons...it makes no sense to have Naksu's body with Bu-yeon's soul

Trying to be neutral here but the chemistry between the two leads still not quite there.
Weird to have S1's strong willed Nak Su having amnesia and acting girly/cute. Then again, it shows she has good range, able to pull off a no-nonsense character as well as an innocent wide eyed miss.

Kudos for not getting rid of the character due to loss of actress. I hope American shows will take heed, i.e. walking dead and suits among others. If I'm a fan of a show, it's the characters I'm vested in, not the actors. Thank you!

I love Jung So-min character. The way she played that role and her beauty outshine this new lady. The way she made you think she was a nerd, clueless and ruthless 🤣. She had me thinking she wouldn't fall in love and did. The way she played around the crown prince scene. Hilarious 😂 😃 😄. I'm trying to give the new lead a chance. I new something wasn't right when I seen this lady. Thinking some kind of surgery she done. Then I kept googling names and found out Jung So-min wasn't returning upset me. I hope they do a season 3 and BRING HER BACK. I'm a big fan., however I hate to just stop watching. I'm crushing on Jung So-min. 😆
