Kim Soo-hyun remembers One Ordinary Day in new teaser with Cha Seung-won

A new video teaser has been released for Coupang Play’s upcoming crime drama One Ordinary Day, featuring its lead actors Kim Soo-hyun (It’s Okay to Not Be Okay) and Cha Seung-won (Hwayugi).

The drama’s story takes us through the justice system of South Korea by following the character played by Kim Soo-hyun. By all accounts, he’s just an ordinary college student going about his day-to-day. But when a series of unexpected events make him a murder suspect overnight, third-rate lawyer Cha Seung-won decides to help Kim, despite the odds stacked against them.

The teaser opens on Kim Soo-hyun sitting in jail as he fidgets nervously and tries not to panic. Cha Seung-won meets with him and calmly offers his counsel: “Hyun-soo, from now on we’re not going to talk about anything related to what happened that night. Ever.”

In a sequence of black-and-white shots, we see Kim’s memories of the night in question with certain objects in color: blood on the railing, a broken vase of flowers on the steps, and a quivering hand lying on the bed. The captions indicate that the drama is based on BBC’s Criminal Justice and introduces PD Lee Myung-woo who directed the dramas Punch and Fiery Priest.

A worried Kim Soo-hyun tells Cha Seung-won, “But you should know what my true story is.” In reply, Cha delivers the harsh reality saying, “That truth you’re talking about? If you become fixated on it, you won’t be able to do anything.” The trailer then cuts to another flashback sequence, this time in full color, but more disjointed. In quick shots, we see someone consuming something, a police officer taking photos of the crime scene, fallen flowers picked up from the ground, someone slicing a lime, Kim talking to someone off-screen, and a distressed Kim crying.

After the drama’s title card, we return to Kim Soo-hyun in the present, but the shot is in monochrome. The teaser comes to an end as Kim cautiously asks Cha Seung-won: “That woman… did she die?”

Directed by PD Lee Myung-woo (Backstreet Rookie) and written by Kwon Soon-kyu (Jackpot), Coupang Play’s One Ordinary Day premieres next month on November 27.

As much as I love Kim Soohyun... this drama is written by the writer of Jackpot Shudders

I'll wait it out.

These actors are great, but the writer of Jackpot + the PD of Backstreet Rookie is literally nightmare inducing. I’ll wait for the reviews.

I'll be watching this. I love both these actors and from this preview, I suspect the whole idea of truth will be up for grabs. It's exactly the sort of thing that I enjoy. I hope I'm not disappointed.

I'll also be looking at Kim Soo-hyun and thinking Ben Wishaw, which will amuse, but not detract. I can already imagine them morphing into each other.

So I was wondering at 1st, Ben Whishaw's name was random lol. Turns out, he was the ML of Criminal Justice (which this is based on more than The Night Of). I read that Criminal Justice was better than The Night Of, b/c they also talked about the system in which led to all of this. K-dramas more than anything love those type of messages. In that sense, One Ordinary Day could be very good. Coupang Play "Coupang's premium service users are given free access to Coupang Play," so Korean Amazon will give this show free to their subscribers.

"We have already fully regained about 20 billion won production costs through pre-sale of #OneOrdinaryDay on Coupang Play, Copus Korea, and Viu." So this is most likely going to be on Viki then? I did read that Amazon would present the Coupang Play shows, although that would cause issues since Amazon is their biggest competition. This was long, sorry :D!

I didn't know any of this, but I remember BW in Criminal Justice. I hope it's on Viki.

I will be watching, even though it seems the writer and PD team are not the best. The sheer charisma of the two actors should make it all better.

This is remake of "The Night of" that ran on HBO headlined by Riz Ahmed for which he won an Emmy. So, the writer is adapting it and source material is pretty air tight. You'd have to be next level incompetent to mess this up.

The Night Of was a remake of Criminal Justice, a BBC show.

Lol ikr? Imagine you've this gold mine of source material, and then F up lol. World of the Married followed Doctor Foster like 90% minus the last 30 seconds. So good call on following the important aspects of what made "The Night Of" so compelling. Coupang Play (I heard Amazon is going to promote K-dramas there), gave KSH a lot of $$$ to play the ML. They better deliver.
