Drama viewership ratings for the week of Mar. 14-20, 2022

Business Proposal hit double digits this week (*confetti*), but Military Prosecutor Doberman continues to chase it down, and will probably grab more viewers once Business Proposal is over. Speaking of performing, Thirty-Nine continues to do well, and so does Tracer, except it lost some viewers on Saturday — the day the ratings wars get real. When Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce) outranks both Tracer and Forecasting, well, it must really be makjangilicious.

I'm so happy for Business Proposal hitting 10.1%! Everybody needs a rom-com like this at the moment.

Didn't the two lead actors say they will do something special to celebrate hitting double digits - maybe perform a song together?

Yes! Ahn Hyo-seop and Kim Se-jeong promised to sing an OST from the drama. He did this with Lee Sung-kyung for Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim 2. https://www.instagram.com/tv/B8FsmqOgrnA

Our second leads need to sing too! Kim Min-kyu can sing, and Seol In-ah was an idol trainee. https://youtu.be/BwkC_3E1wBw

Thirty Nine had 17% drop because people just forgot about it after a week hiatus. The bounce back must because of the star talent not the story.

K-drama writers, PDs and executives please take note: BUSINESS PROPOSAL just hit double digits. When you do not insist upon introducing unneeded corporate politics and political corruption elements into a comedy you get a bigger audience, not a smaller one. I am sure that there must be other webtoons and manwhas out there which are also true comedies just like this one. Want a hit? Go find them.

For me, Business Proposal is just another rom-com. Nothing special. If we compare it to Vincenzo, which contains corruption, Vincenzo hits different and smash hit. After so many years ppl still love it and watch but I can't say this about BP. Don't overrate it pls

Strange to compare BP with Vincenzo. They were not of the same genre at all.

Correct! Vincenzo wasn’t really a romance drama for me.

Vincenzo’s whole thing was corruption. It was never billed as a rom-com. Pretty sure OldLawyer’s comment is referring to dramas billed as rom-coms that end up getting clogged with useless, boring corporate sideplots.

Exactly my point. VINCENZO although to some extent a comedy came from a sub-genre- the gangster comedy. Political corruption is actually a requirement for those dramas- it is inherent in the story from the beginning.

In contrast just ask yourself how much better DALI AND GAMJATANG would have been if the only villians were art thieves and Dali's drug addled cousin? If the price of that was 12 episodes rather than 16 so be it- and even in advertising revenue it probably would have paid off.

You are absolutely right. But....I adored Dali and Gamjatang so much I wouldn't have minded it running another ten episodes with ANY sort of filler......the lead man and his sidekick were just so funny, as were all the museum employees.

When you do not insist upon introducing unneeded corporate politics and political corruption elements into a comedy you get a bigger audience, not a smaller one.

This is probably where having 12-episodes helps. You can't cram in extraneous stuff for the sake of dragging out the story to 16 episodes.

Sorry it might be your taste, but the vanilla scripts with all pink stuff is too sugary for many. The drama is doing good and for free channel it’s got ratings that it deserves. That doesn’t mean it’s the ‘only’ hit formula that you are implying. Adding other stuff is crucial for balance.

Sincerely enjoy how these ratings posts spiral off into drama discussions. I think we can all agree that Kdramas are changing and arguably for the better.
I am a relative newbie (only 4 years of addiction) but have experienced enough draggy angst/corporate shenanigans/political intrigue in 16 ep dramas to last a lifetime.
As long as Korean dramas do not lose the essential element of human compassion, which even occurred in the much vaunted Squid Game, I will be along for the ride.

I think it's been interesting to watch the evolution of the private broadcasting channels. I remember when Signal hit the double digits, it was like a massively big deal. And then for a while it seemed like private channel dramas were the preferred drama. And now it feels like they just compete regularly on equal footing. With big streaming services thrown into the mix, who knows how things will change in the next few years? (PLease, just don't kill the public broadcasting business for dramas)
