Kim Min-jae, Kim Hyang-gi courted for new tvN sageuk

Kim Min-jae (Dal-li and Gamjatang) and Kim Hyang-gi (Moment at Eighteen) are considering offers to star in tvN’s upcoming drama Joseon Psychologist Yoo Se-poong.

The drama is based on a novel by the same name that won the 2016 National Korean Story Contest. Set in the Joseon dynasty, it follows the story of mental health healer who emerges to help treat patients and support people’s wellness.

Kim Min-jae has been offered the titular role of Yoo Se-poong, Joseon’s most favored royal physician. He was once most skilled at acupuncture, but due to a psychological trauma, he now trembles whenever he touches a needle.

Kim Hyang-gi plays a person who used to be so depressed that she couldn’t even handle the burden of a single dew drop, but becoming a mental health healer gave her new life.

tvN’s Joseon Psychologist Yoo Se-poong begins filming in January 2022 and is expected to air in the latter half of the year.

Mental health in Joseon? I have never heard of that topic in any sagueks, it's always palace wars. I'm a bit skeptical of the FL but super confident on the ML. I'm looking forward to this

Omo
I like both leads and curious about the story. I always like Kim Minjae, but after Dalli and Gamjatang, I'm a fan. I binge watched Do You Like Brahms? and even though there were parts that didn't sit right with me, I like it a lot.

I love Min-jae in modern rom.com but I'm not quite sure about sageuks yet. FLOWER CREW was a dud and the acting wasn't good either.
Kim Hang-gi is talented but I haven't seen her in a full sageuk.

The topic is a bit dubious for the time period, but I do like the pairing a lot. It’s not one I ever imagined, but I find those to often be the most intriguing.

Also, it’s just rare for me to want to skip a sageuk.

Mental health is terrible in Korea even today, so I can't imagine what it would be like back then... Hopefully this will be good for society

I knew Kim Min-jae had his 3rd sageuk with this one (the first was Mr. Sunshine (2018) (as final/24th episode cameo who he played the adult version of Do-mi) and the next was Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency (2019)).

Can see this pairing work!
Only saw Hyanggi in modern dramas but somehow I can already picture them in the roles!

Am wondering if PEB and KMJ will ever do a sageuk together... Both can pull it for sure and the this OTP works as proven.

Excited about a new work for Kim Min-jae, not as excited that it's a sageuk, though (not my cup of tea, usually)...but who knows, it might surprise me! ^^
The topic is definitely original (at least in my experience) for a historical drama, though, so it could be a cool concept.
As long as it's well made, and hopefully it will be!

Only thing I don't understand from the summary, who's the healer, the guy or he girl? Both?? Curious already xD
Too bad I can't understand Korean (not enough to read it fluently ><), the book sounds interesting.

My alarm for anachronisms went OTT, but who knows, it could be wonderful, wounded healers and all.

A Joseon Psychologist? I am not sure every plot can be turned into a Sageuk.

I like this topic! In a lot of historical dramas and stories there was a glimpse of mental health that was taken seriously instead of written off as a curse or crazy. This story has won a contest and I hope its filmed right.
