Drama viewership ratings for the week of Nov. 22-28, 2021

We’ve been seeing some really decent ratings lately, especially for our sageuks. This week, The King’s Affection finally hit double digits (as well as its highest rating) after thirteen episodes. Secret Royal Inspector and Joy saw a bit of a dip but still managed to stay strong around 4 percent.

And then, later in the week, The Red Sleeve Cuff sped past Now, We Are Breaking Up with 9.4 percent. While Red Sleeve has consistently been rising, Breaking Up has been stuck around 7 percent. We also had the addition of School 2021, the latest of the beloved School series, which premiered to a quiet 2.8 percent.

I felt that the two Kdramas will be potential to be sadness in the coming two weeks in terms of continuous lowest ratings: Melancholia and Happiness

Melancholia hitted its lowest rating ever on Thursday. Melancholia also meant sad and unhappiness. Don't worry, the upcoming episodes will be back to 2% range.

On the other hand, Happiness still stayed and floating around 3%. My promise for the upcoming Happiness episode ratings that if the final four episodes will reached the highest rating beyond 3% (starting with 4%), then the zombies will be possible to clashing with NWABU and Red Sleeve Cuff. I hope the zombies will be biting NWABU off the rating if Happiness will be possibly overtake NWABU with 8%. But if Happiness will be dropping below 3% with only four episodes remaining, then there will be no zombies and Happiness will be Sadness.

Why did Melancholia get dropped for the reviews? This drama is so AMAZING and the numbers went up too. I literally wait until Wednesday and Thursday for this drama, its literally my favorite airing right now

Red Sleeve deserves the rating. Good show and good ratings. NWABU doesn't deserve the ratings. Although the ratings are not amazing considering it airs on SBS and it that time slot

I am sure Red Cuff of the Sleeve will break into double digits soon, but I just hope that even if romance ventures into the angst territory, the writer has plans to keep the conflicts interesting because this is the drama I'm looking forward to on weekends, with Happiness being next on the list.

Super stoked to see Red Sleeve's ratings climb each week. Word-of-mouth has really boosted attention for this drama and now they've beaten both NWABU and jirisan on Saturdays. Hopefully they'll surpass their goal of 15%. 🤞

RED SLEEVE cheerleading squad Assemble!!!
We need to get this baby to 15%. I know we'd love to see Junho-ah dance in his dragon robe too.

I believe Lee Deokhwa promised he would go fishing (a hobby he's really into) in the dragon robes, haha. We need to see all these happen!
I feel like with this trajectory red sleeve could be looking at +20% if it was 20-30 episodes long, but alas, it's only a miniseries...(hopefully we're looking at a sageuk revival and eventually see 50+ ep series again...am I the only one that likes them this long?)

Double yes!
I'm going to bawl my eyes out when he leaves. Lee Deok-hwa is my favorite Yeongjo, thanks to his majesty performance.
History + novel is enough material to make it a 20-30 episodes drama.
I'd watch a 50 eps sageuk by Jeong Hyun-min, Kim Young-hyun or Kim Yi-young.

Those three writers ALL need to make a sageuk-epic comback! My dream is one with nam ji hyun and lee hyun woo as leads (queen seonduk nostalgia going strong)...and you can't leave noh young hak out of a historical.

@sparks121
All 3 of them need to go back to the 3 kingdom era. They were so fun to watch in QUEEN SEOK DEOK.
I'm so sad when I look at Noh Young-hak's career. He is still playing supporting roles after all these years.

3

I see 3 Kingdoms, I click like. Anything to forward my never ending mission and quest to manifest more, and good, 3K dramas.

Sic is our Silla spy/girl. 😂

👀👀👀 *steeples fingers conspiratorially and annexes your confederacy*

3

LOL, just wait till "GOGURYEO" comes out (if ever).
I wish Kim Young-hyun would ditch ARTH and go back to her roots. RED SLEEVE reminds me of DAE JANG GEUM since they are using the same set.

2

Arth needs to die and stay dead.

4

Yeah, proves you also need luck to succeed in the industry. As far as I can see he's not lacking in any "x factor" or presence either. Thinking back, it's crazy how kim myung min was super close to closing his acting career moving to the states.

@sparks121

Yes, Noh needs a bit of luck. Sadly, talent alone is not enough.
I love him and Lee Se-young in KING'S DREAM. They were a gorgeous pair, and I only stayed for them.

You’re definitely not the only one who likes long epic sageuks. I’m happy to see there’s one coming out soon, even if it’s about Taejong whose story I find over-represented at this point. Still, I hope that this is a sign that epic traditional sageuks are making a comeback.

Red Sleeve Cuff absolutely deserves the high ratings. This is a show that started strong and only gets better with each episode. Lee Junho is doing great work and has sparky chemistry with LSY, but it's his scenes with Lee Deok Hwa that really impressed me this past week. If the writing can keep up the dramatic tension without compromising on the quality it should definitely hit double digits.

Glad King's Affection is gaining viewers as well. I don't think the dialogue and overall direction are quite as good as Red Sleeve, but it's still a fun, satisfying, and often poignant watch.

Surprised the ratings for Happiness aren't a bit higher. Even though I'm hanging in there with Melancholia to see how things develop in the present timeline, I can see how the first several weeks turned people off. I'll have to wait and see the whole of the story, but right now, I feel like they could have condensed some of the setup as it was emotionally exhausting and very hard to watch at times.

Lee Deok Hwa and Lee Jun ho are amazing together. Both are very aplty chosen for their roles.

the thing with Melancholia is that people assumed the worse before watching...but then again the writer purposely inserts some weird dialogues sometimes lol

The Wednesday-Thursday's dramas have very low ratings.

I'm happy that The King's Affection is still doing good after 14 episodes! The story is still strong with Hwi being King. It's still in the top 10 on Netflix even if KBS doesn't promote it very well. The staff is more promoting it with their own Instagram account :p

I am actually surprised that the ratings for RED SLEEVE CUFF are not even higher.

Meanwhile the ratings for YOUNG LADY AND GENTLEMAN continue to climb.

Very happy to see Red Sleeve Cuff consistently rise in ratings. If there’s a drama airing that deserves double digits, it’s this one without a doubt. Wishful thinking these days, but I hope it breaks the 20% mark.

Idol: The Coup's rating is slightly rising, yess! I'm rooting for you, Cotton Candy girls!
this show airs at 11pm south korea time, that's really late, so 0,5% rating, on cable, is understandable.
This is a show I'm looking forward to every Monday-Tuesday (finally my iqy vip membership felt worth it as I can watch it at the same time with korean viewers, hehe)
This drama is a story about letting go of your long time dream (which the process can be painfull), combined that with catchy songs + energic dance sequences, with a sprinkle of romance (involving Kwak Si Yang as a grumpy CEO but may turn to be a tsundere hero), I'm a happy viewer!
Idol: The Coup, fighting!

The 11 p.m. time slot is not an excuse. Other dramas aired by JTBC on Monday-Tuesday 11 p.m. did pretty well, like "Life" and "Miss Hammurabi." Not to mention the Friday-Saturday 11 p.m. dramas (even setting obvious outliers like "Sky Castle" and "The World of the Married" aside). Idol fans should just admit that the topic is not something that Korean viewers are interested in, as seen by recent bombs like "Imitation" and "Let Me Be Your Night."

owh, I didn't know that "Life" and "Miss Hammurabi" aired at 11PM on Mon-Tues, thanks for the info. I know both drama did pretty well. However, I would assume that since both Life and Miss H carried relatively more popular stars, there were more enticed viewers eventhough the airing time was that late.
As for the case of Sky Castle and The World of the Married, that was Fri-Sat drama so it could be a case of different days of schedule.

But then again, you could be absolutely right that the topic in Idol: The Coup is not interesting enough for the Korean viewers, hence the (very) low rating.

"Something that has been letting go by someone, could be treasured by others" (I don't know how to say this properly in English), but I guess that could be the case of the Idol: The Coup, I treasured what the Korean viewers have let go, haha..

The Red sleeve Cuff deserved its rating .. it's getting better by each episode. Junho chemistry with LSY are no joke but I also love the tension between Junho and Dok Hwa.
I read the history for them and it's a sad story actually. I hope we got the happy ending in this mini series. If it's become long saeguk drama it can be ended by all of them dead XD .. even though I don't mind wit the long episodes, I will watch it definitely ..

I'm so sad Dramabeans doesn't make a recap or even open thread for this drama :(

So excited to see the rating for The Red Sleeve Cuff!! I hope it will continually to be this anticipating to the end and give happy ending. Pretty please...

I first watched this for Lee Se Young - I'm impressed with her character in the Crowned Clown, she was a queen but in a serious vibe. But as usual, once you start a drama, you'll fall for others.

Currently I'm digging
- Jun-Ho's drama that I might have paused or missed. Haha. I first watched him in Confession; a thriller non-romance drama. It was good! Netflix will be adding his old drama Rise and Shine. Can't wait!!
- Lady Seo's drama : Yet to remember her name, she's so funny!
- Grandpa King : Is he a grandpa in real life? He really gives me the emotion of a grandpa that one second full of love but another second full of rage and shifted back; that I think only one who has a child know how confusing that feels. It's all love but unexplainable

- Duk Im's chubby friend, I need to find her name. She's so cheerful and full of life, giving you the vibe of your bestfriend-to-go and to-gossip-with when you're in your college years!

And more!

Can you see that I love this drama so much 🤪

It's hard not to love The Red Sleeve Cuff. Great dialogues superb acting & beautiful scenes. Junho as the brooding but romantic prince is so dreamy to watch. I love Lee Seyoung as the bubbly Deok-im. I hope the rest of the series will continue the current momentum.
