Searching mountains with Jeon Ji-hyun, Joo Ji-hoon in tvN’s Jirisan

Upcoming tvN drama Jirisan has dropped a new teaser. Jeon Ji-hyun (Kingdom: Ashin of the North) and Joo Ji-hoon (Kingdom 2, Hyena) star in this wildlife mystery drama, written by Kingdom’s Kim Eun-hee and directed by Mr. Sunshine PD Lee Eung-bok.

Jeon Ji-hyun plays the role of Seo Yi-kang, the best park ranger in the National Park Service. Joo Ji-hoon plays Kang Hyun-jo, a rookie ranger with a hidden secret. Together, they become entangled in a case that leads to a greater mystery.

The teaser begins by listing the credits of the distinguished actors and production team. Ominous music is broken up by the crackle of lightning and the sound of torrential rain. Someone hikes in the dark with a headlamp, while a mountain stream floods in the rain. In the next cut, it looks like Joo Ji-hoon is searching for something with his flashlight. Jeon Ji-hyun seems desperate as she looks around in the snow. The final shot shows Joo Ji-hoon alone on a mountain peak.

Jirisan is a special 15-year anniversary project from tvN, and is scheduled to begin airing this October.

At first I thought this was a Nepa commercial because Jun Jihyun was posing in every frame then Ju Jihoon came out with a serious expression but it still looked a cf. Maybe I need to see a longer promotional clip with better editing.

The teaser doesn't really suit a mystery in the mountains but more an Hollywood action movie...

I was really looking forward to this drama but do NOT want to sign up for yet another subscription. Any rumors about VIKI of netflix picking this up later?

I haven't heard anything. Viki did get Monthly Magazine Home and My Roommate a few weeks later, but given the big names here, I'm guessing iqiyi paid a lot for it. They might get this one exclusively for a year like Backstreet Rookie.

Besides iqiyi, according to a Soompi article, it will also be available on Viki.

This teaser highlighted the things I have zero interest in: The leads looking scared, frazzled, determined as they hike up mountains. I hope there is an interesting story here because I like the cast and writer, but I feel very meh about it right now.

I've been waiting for this for a long time and I'm looking forward to seeing the mountain as a protagonist in all its awesome grandeur. Love both leads too.

"I'm looking forward to seeing the mountain as a protagonist in all its awesome grandeur." 100%! You read my toughts :) Did you see those blue mountains in the background in one of the stills? Absolutely stunning. I'm an avid hiker, and it reminded me of the "blue foggy stack" of the North Cascades or Smoky mountains, here in the US. I didn't realize that Sobaek and Toebaek mountain ranges are so beautiful. Normally, these "nth anniversary" channel projects are complete duds, but I'm not going to pass judgement yet. At any case, I'm looking forward to gazing at the beautiful mountains and nature, once this series is released!

I'm not a hiker, but I'd love to go hiking in SK.

I swore, one day, I will! Once the pandemic ends and I finally be able to travel to SK for the first time, I'll def visit that national park and post a picture of me with Jirisan in the background! :)

"Mt. Jiri-san as a protagonist" is spot on since it is called the Grand Matriarch mountain at the end of the spine of the Korean Peninsula. You might enjoy this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baekdudaegan

There's so much in this that's exciting x 💯 Firstly, the whole spine of Baekdudaegan that runs from NK to the south, from father to mother. It reminded me of a dragon's spine. Then the dramatic story of sacrifice to the imugi. I would love to walk to the various temples around Jirisan. I'm not good for heights but I would face up to my fears and overcome them to walk there. Thanks so much for this link.

This teaser has more shots of text than scenes from the drama itself...what's the point of releasing teasers like this?

Looks like a natural disaster action film made into a TV shower.

Yep. This was a terrible teaser. There really wasn't anything to look forward to in that teaser. All I remember is the flooded river. Or is it a rain water from the mountain. I don't know

I was anticipating this drama since the casting news but not thrilled when I saw the teaser. I tend to drop dramas in iQiyi. There is something about the app that makes the drama
less appealing to me.

I used to feel that way, too, but I figured out how to use it on my smart TV and that did make it marginally better. I think my problem is a perception one - I just don't perceive iQIYI as having A-list dramas, so I tend to be more dismissive of their offerings (even when they snag big names). That may be unfair of me.

I did that too but it is blurry 🙁 The picture quality is not as good as Kocawa, Viki and ODK. I agree! I tried so hard to finish cdramas/kdramas on there but I just can’t do it.

I mean that cast and crew but then a "wildlife mystery drama". It sounds like Search with less North Korean zombies. Or with this writer maybe more North Korean zombies?

Regardless you could not keep me away.

Maybe it will finally be that Creature Feature we've all been waiting for since Forest... ;)
(I haven't seen Search; is it any good?)

Search is a middle of the road quintessential OCN drama. It mostly dances near the edge of ridiculous until the end where it finally leaps full body off that cliff. There's certainly nothing in it that makes it worth recommending, unless you're a fan of the leads.

A couple of thoughts about SEARCH. I had an idea that maybe Jang Dong-yoon (who looked great) was using SEARCH as preparation for his role in JOSEON EXORCIST. I guess we will never know. Speaking of JDY I enjoyed his scenes with Moon Jeong-hee.

JDY is a class act. As much as I enjoy the style of OCN dramas generally, he was definitely the reason I watched Search.

The Mr sunshine PD.. I just hope there won't be any long drawn out scenes with characters staring at each other while dramatic background music plays. This is my from my favorite writer and the genre is mystery so I hope they don't mess up.

Love the main actors, but the teaser isn't really telling much about the drama. I'm more excited about Taeyeon's OST for this drama than the drama itself.
