Premiere Watch: Kingdom – Ashin of the North
by missvictrix
Time slot: Friday
Broadcaster: Netflix
Genre: Sageuk, thriller, zombie
Episode count: 1
In case you are in the mood for some zombie thrills this summer, Netflix is releasing their special episode Kingdom: Ashin of the North. The single episode feature tells the backstory of Jun Ji-hyun’s character, of whom we caught a glimpse of at the end of Season 2. What is her story? What does she know about the zombies? How much overlap will there be between what she encounters in the north, and what we know happened in Joseon after following the story in Seasons 1 and 2? I’m a self-admitted wimp when it comes to gore and violence, but I might just make an exception for Ashin out of pure interest in the storytelling potential of this series.

I am contractually obliged to watched anything to do with Kingdom at this point, for better or for worse.
Let's see if it tops season two's reverse samurai decapitation in cinematography points.

how weird is it that I don´t want Joseon to be free of zombies yet... but if they take it to Silla it´ll be very hard to run in long robes. Zombies entangled: the outfit of horror.

Sic, like you I will be watching KINGDOM 2A (ASHIN).
If you are in the mood for a non-zombie summer caper flick with a great ensemble (SK and HK) cast including Jun Ji-hyun I can recommend THE THIEVES (2012). Here is the cast:

I watched it subbed on ODK but it seems to be available subbed on YouTube.

“ reverse samurai decapitation “
Sounds interesting - a clue would be appreciated. A search on YT was NOT useful…

This may help. I didn’t watch it (not planning on it), but sic did give a couple thoughts on her fan wall: https://www.dramabeans.com/members/sicarius/activity/1248799/

I am ready to watch this! I re-read the series recaps for Season 1 and 2 here on Dramabeans.
It's too hot for a blanket fort but I have a pillow at the ready in case I need to grab something and scream or avert my eyes!

I really thought Ashin of The North was going to be a full 6 episodes series. Just found out yesterday it's one episode drama special. Better than nothing I guess.
