Jung Hae-in, Gu Kyo-hwan track down army runaways in new promos for Netflix’s D.P.

Upcoming Netflix Original D.P. has released promos featuring the main cast in new posters and a video teaser.

The series stars Jung Hae-in (A Piece of Your Mind) and Gu Kyo-hwan (Kingdom: Ashin of the North) in what seems to be the army version of a buddy cop story. Jung is the somewhat naïve, newly enlisted private, and the bumbling but senior ranking Gu takes him under his wing. The two are both assigned to become D.P.s  and together, they take on the challenging task of hunting down army deserters and bringing them back safely.

The posters give off a serious vibe and the tagline on all three reads the same: “I am a soldier who captures soldiers.”

In contrast, the teaser suggests a more comical action story and starts with Gu Kyo-hwan saving Jung Hae-in from bullying. Pretending to punish Jung himself, Gu takes him aside and jumps around shouting and slapping his own hands together as a scared Jung stands stiffly behind him. The teaser then cuts to Kim Sung-kyun (The Fiery Priest) asking Jung Hae-in to join the D.P. unit. When Jung agrees, Kim brings both Jung Hae-in and Gu Kyo-hwan to meet with Sohn Seok-gu (Be Melodramatic), and Sohn orders the team to bring back ten deserters.

The second half of the teaser focuses on Jung Hae-in and Gu Kyo-hwan’s developing bromance as they follow clues and chase down the runaway soldiers. In a sequence of shots, we see them wearing their “cool” clothes, traveling through different neighborhoods, eating on the go, encountering all sorts of people, and getting into skirmishes. In the final scene, the two finally capture one deserter. But when questioned why Jung and Gu are so committed to their mission, Jung Hae-in looks conflicted and the teaser comes to an end.

Production for the drama is being handled collaboratively, with film director Han Joon-hee (Hit and Run Squad, Coin Locker Girl) taking the director’s chair. Han also has a hand in the scripts and is working together with the original webtoon creator Kim Bo-tong to write the episodes. The story is said to be taken from Kim’s own army experiences when he worked as a D.P.

Netflix drama D.P. releases next month on August 27.

Reading this and from what I have read about the upcoming "Snowdrop", I would be happier to see JHI court another noona.

I'm really excited to watch it. It looks it will mix humor and more serious subject with each deserter having his own story (it seems they saved a soldier to jump in front the metro...) I don't know Gu Kyo-Hwan (I didn't watch the sequel of Kingdom) but I really like the rest of the actors.
The story is pretty different with the curring dramas too.

It could be a Korean version of the 1973 Jack Nicholson film 'The Last Detail' which is roughly the same premise. I can close my eyes and almost imagine it

Great trailer. I will be there. 6 episodes on Netflix US.
Jung Hae-in looks great and I am looking forward to seeing his physicality. JHI is 33 but looks much younger so playing a young soldier will be no problem. Remember he enlisted in the military when he was 21.
O/T. I really enjoyed and recommend his delightful 2019/20 reality show JUNG HAE IN’S TRAVEL LOG. 8 episodes available on Viki US.
It is a record of JHI’s visit to NYC and Niagara Falls in the fall of 2019.
He was joined by two of his pals Eun Jong Geon and Im Hyun-Soo (who is currently appearing in ON THE VERGE OF INSANITY).
Also you can see NYC before it became a ghost town during the pandemic.
One thing I learned about watching the show is that JHI can pack away the grub. There was a humorous incident where JHI (30 at the time) was carded at the famous Oyster Bar in Grand Central Terminal to prove he was over 21 which is the legal drinking age in NY.

I hope this new program will be available on Netflix U.S. Jung Hae-in is one of my favorites but there is a shortage of shows here with him in the lead. He is a little stiff in his acting compared with others, but he has a certain energy that I like a lot.

This will be streamed worldwide.
It is a Netflix original drama (made by Netflix), so will be available only on Netflix, like Kingdom or Sweet Home.

Guess I’m the only one excited to see Gu Kyo-hwan on screen again. First noticed him in “Peninsula" and wondered where this actor popped up from to get casted on such a big-budget film, and then his very unique (high-pitched) voice reallllly caught my attention, and thus began my search for all his previous works (sadly, he’s only mainly been in some hard-to-find indie films). And lo and behold, how excited I was to see him in “Kingdom: Ashin” but he didn’t even have one freakin’ line in the whole movie! Lol. (If I blinked and missed it, please let me know. I’ll rewatch Kingdom for him.)

His trajectory reminds me of Sohn Seok-gu’s in that they mostly worked under the radar in smaller, indie works and then suddenly showed up in higher profile productions and steadily worked their way into viewers’ hearts. Such rare gems! I’ve never understood the hype around Jung Hae-in, but with Sohn Seok-gu and Gu Kyo-hwan in the same show, I’ll be ready to click play at 11:59pm on Aug. 26th!

JHI: I know him from 2 dramas: WYWS and PP. I enjoyed him in both dramas. I passed on his romantic dramas.
GKH: Total blank slate.
SSG: I know him from SUITS and DESIGNATED SURVIVOR: 60 DAYS. SSG seemed to go on a lot of radars with his performance in DS. He was terrific.
I know it is dangerous to bet just on one trailer but JHI and GKH look like they will be great together. I like a drama with multiple leads because then one lead doesn’t have to carry the whole load.
Also if it is in the style of let’s say MOVE TO HEAVEN there will be probably be a ‘story of the week’ possibly with some fine cameos. I don’t know.

SSG was good in Sense8 and Be Melodramatic. He was a terrific villain in Mother too.

i know about army deserter from drama while you were sleeping (WYWS), the plot that set chain reaction for all the leadS in the drama and also about Sech Kies Lee Jae Jin, who runs from army during his service back in 2009. They always have issues, mainly from soldier runs away from bullies senior officer or have mental issues that that unable them to survive the their overall service time. its just not widely known to international.

My melodrama icon Jung Hae-in is back…in a very different role. I suppose that’s good for his acting range. Even if I kinda want him to be in a romance drama again. Fingers crossed after this and Snowdrop.

I am excited to see Ko Kyo-hwan in a drama though. I’ve only ever seen him in the movie Peninsula, but he (and Lee Re) had the strongest performances in that movie.
