Kim Myung-min uncovers a murder mystery in new teaser for JTBC’s Law School

With the premiere just a few days away, JTBC’s mystery drama Law School has released a new video teaser featuring the main cast in footage from the upcoming first episode.

Set within a prestigious law school in South Korea, Kim Myung-min (Miracle that We Met) stars in the drama as a criminal law professor who was formerly a prosecutor. In the middle of a mock trial with his students, fellow professor Ahn Nae-sang (Mouse) is suddenly found dead in his office but the clues are suspicious in nature and don’t seem to add up. As the mystery grows, students including Kim Bum (Tale of the Nine Tailed) and Ryu Hye-young (Eun-joo’s Room) become involved in the effort to uncover what happened and they experience firsthand the meaning and impact of truth, law, and justice.

The teaser begins in a classroom with Lee David (SF8) and Lee Soo-kyung (Fox Bride Star) respectively participating in the mock trial as the prosecutor and defense lawyer when suddenly a woman’s scream is heard from another room. Shocked, the students and teaching staff rush out and they find Ahn Nae-sang’s body slumped backwards over his chair.

The news report shows police cars parked outside of the school and the reporter announces that, “The former director of the prosecutor’s office Seo Byung-joo has been found dead at the law school he was stationed at.” Kim Myung-min helps the police look for clues and looking at a new parcel he notes that, “Someone planning to die today wouldn’t order a package of blood sugar test strips with same-day delivery.” The police ask him, “If it’s homicide, is there anyone that you might suspect?” And Kim responds, “Me.” The police look into Kim Myung-min’s background and reports that Kim previously worked with the deceased at the prosecution office and currently worked with him at the law school.

Cut to Ryu Hye-young who rages at her fellow students studying in the library, “It’s chaos outside and yet how can everything still be like nothing happened in here!? How can all of you just continue studying quietly?” A staff member explains to her, “Even if it seem psychopathic, you still need to pass your exams.” As he speaks, we transition to the day of examinations and Kim Bum tears up as he writes his exam. The police confirm afterwards that Ahn Nae-sang’s death is suspected homicide caused by overdose on drugs and that Ahn was drugged with Methamphetamine. Kim Myung-min admits that he does suspect one other person and Jo Jae-ryong (Fly Dragon) angrily retorts that it’s a false accusation.

It cuts to professor Lee Jung-eun (Once Again) who collapses in front of her class and the alarmed students call out to her in concern. Student Hyun-woo (9.9 Billion Won Woman) helps the paramedics as they rush Lee onto the ambulance and a worried colleague asks if Lee will be okay. Kim Myung-min confronts Jo Hae-ryong and tells him that, “It’s okay to remember now.” The video comes to a close with a sequence of close-up shots showing a puzzle piece and most of the main cast. All the while Kim Bum speaks with Kim Myung-min, “I heard that you said it wasn’t suicide. Who do you think it is?”

Writing for the drama is Seo In, and directing will be helmed by drama and movie director Kim Seok-yoon (The Light in Your Eyes) who worked with Kim Myung-min on the series of Detective K movies.

JTBC’s next Wednesday-Thursday drama Law School premieres this coming week on April 14.

Please be good. Please be good. I want Kim Bum to be in a drama I can finish because I adore him, but not his projects. So please be good.

After I felt excited with this plotline, I'm finally in at last. Let's see who will graduate from law school after planned successful mock classes. Eventually on the performing side, I felt looked like Kim Bum's next successful TV project while other cast members felt the finest ensemble. Another upcoming detail in this show that I looked forward was the fake reenactments by a fake suspects or fake victims played by law school students.

I’ll be waiting for interesting takes and insights from insightful Beanies in the field. @pickleddragon @smaltwalt Daisy (what’s her name here?) @oldawyer..
I’d want to tag SnarkyJelly too but I don’t think it’s a good time to do that.

I view episodes 5 and 6 as really one continuous episode and so am holding off until we get the episode 6 recap.

Please disregard the above comment- it was meant o be posted to a different show entirely. This is what happens when you have multiple windows up.

I am very much looking forward to LAW SCHOOL even though I am not normally a detective story watcher.

Even though the synopsis gives me How to Get Away with Murder (US show) vibes, I also see it as Solomon's Perjury: University Edition.

You wonder though if Ahn Nae Sang was killed by his overlords in LUCA or the unknown psychopathic killer in Mouse: he's been jumping from show to show this year!

Reading the synopsis I had the same thought - this sounds so much like HtGAwM. If anybody can give the same vibe as Viola Davies IS Kim Myung-Min. But I hope that this will be an original drama. Remakes are really hit and miss.
I liked the Detective K series a lot, but that was a comedy series so I wonder... The dramas directed by Kim Suk-Yoon that I have tried to watch failed to impress me.
I am such a fan of Kim Myung-Min, and I still wonder nowadays watching some dramas "What would Anthony say?", but some of the dramas he chose were... underwhelming. And there is something about his haircut in this promos that bother me for some reason. How petty is that?

How long it will be a mock trial and not a real investigation?

I really hope it won't be a second How to Get Away with Murderer.

Speaking of him, he went to Yonsei studying Theology. He's in everything, but he's a great working actor. I wonder if he has another version of himself out there lol, he's constantly working in 9 Dramas, last year OMG?!

Ahn Nae-sang is life!
At this rate he'd probably have 200 films/dramas combined by the time he retires lol.

Ahn Nae-sang now already a veteran actor! He debuted on film in 1994 as appeared on short film and his feature film debut was in 1997 with Bad Movie. As from being a movie-TV actor, he's also famous theater actor. By this year's Kdramas, he did three so far (LUCA: The Beginning, ongoing TvN drama Mouse which its final episodes now had a conflicted same day with different channel (JTBC), Law School's first episodes to May and of course, Law School).
