Nam Ji-hyun becomes a jilted bride for new JTBC drama special
by tccolb
A new drama special is in the works on JTBC called You Have Driven Off Course, which stars actors Nam Ji-hyun (365: Repeat the Year) and Park Ji-young (When I Was the Most Beautiful).
The story has Park and Nam playing mother and daughter, with Nam Ji-hyun taking on the central role of Kang Soo-ji. All her life Nam’s character felt stuck in an ongoing cycle of bad luck and even when life started to get rosier, fate pushed her back down. She had been looking forward to graduating college and marrying the man of her dreams. But on the day of her wedding, the groom betrays her last minute and runs away.
Still dressed in their wedding attire, Park and Nam decide to hunt him down immediately and what ensues is a comical chase filled with impassioned hysterics and squabbling. Ironically, though, this is also the first time that mother and daughter go on a road trip together. And despite fighting constantly, the journey teaches them more about each other and they develop more understanding and appreciation for their relationship.
Directed by PD Jang Ji-yeon and written by Cho Yi-so, JTBC’s new drama special You Have Driven Off Course is currently set to air next month on March 15 and 16.

This sounds great. I don't think I remember the last time I read a synopsis about a love story between mama and daughter.

I had the opposite response: just reading the story description was enough to induce a visceral polarity response. Mostly because five minutes of Nam Ji Hyun is like an hour of yowling of feral cats to me. In all fairness, I know she is not without acting talent but she rubs me in the strongest of negative ways. And boy, playing yet another hapless young woman butt-kicked by life? I'd rather visit a jagged-nailed proctologist...

Lol, that is fair. I love Nam Ji Hyun, but Jung In Sun irks me in that way, so I understand even if not with Nam Ji Hyun.

I loved her performance in SHOPPING KING LOUIS and I really do not think that her role in WHAT HAPPENS TO MY FAMILY can be described that way.

I think she was also good in Suspicious Partner and 100 Days My Prince. Her role in SP can probably be described this way, but she was tough-minded and resilient 100 DMP in my opinion.

Hapless young women or poor women or single women Or divorced women butt kicked by life is 80% of Dramas though. That Korean viewers like too see women Suffer and that’s what sells is not Nam Ji Hyuns fault.

Yes, this is true. They also like to see men suffer too- and in equal measure. Maybe it some sort of Schadenfreude thing.

I am not Korean and I also like that😂. Don't take me in the group who enjoys schadenfreude, though 😅
It's just that, even though they all suffer, men and women, in Korean dramas, they most of the time get a happy end.
Now, on the other side, I don't enjoy simply American television where this gringos are happy most of the time, I find most of these shows very superficial and lifeless. The same could be said about southamerican television, and believe me, I am south American.
I think we have other gifts... making good shows on tv, not much.

I hate to see female leads in downtrodden circumstances, but admit that I do get a thrill when the poor heroine gets to that point where she overcomes her circumstances and those who had bullied her have to scurry away like the vermin they have been.

Yup, a strong, wholly subjective comment, which is why I took pains to acknowledge her talent -- I am not saying she doesn't deserve her career, only that she has a powerfully negative appeal for me personally. For example, I can recognize German opera as having genuine musical merit and still feel it is better for me to go temporarily deaf than have to listen to it.

I can totally see her as a bride who would kick up a fuss when jilted on her wedding. I am already feeling sorry for the groom when she finds him

I do not feel sorry for him at all. I just hope we get to see it happen, otherwise this just becomes another buddy road show.

love this girl. I trust her and respect her drama choices. Her last drama with Lee Joon Hyuk, 365 repeat the year was really good. I have been waiting for what seems like thousand years??? for another Nam Ji Hyun drama so I hope that this is good.

I love it! I really cherish dramas where it's not about the love between a man and a woman. Is that the only kind of love you have in the world??? Love between siblings, parents and their children, friends, can be also very compelling, even more sometimes. Because at the end of the day you can divorce a bad partner, but you cannot divorce your family...
I like this, I am in.
