[Theme of the Month] Share your year in dramas

2020 has been one for the history books in so many ways. To mark the end of the year, we’re bringing back the Theme of the Month for December only. In other words, don’t miss this golden opportunity, and join the Dramabeans staff as we look back on 2020’s dramas. Which dramas moved you? Was there a plot point or a certain type of character that resonated with you? We’d like to hear your perspective and reflections on this year.

Share what this year in dramas has meant for you. Thinking beyond a straight list of dramas you loved or hated, what spoke to you?

To submit:

  • Email your submissions to [email protected]. If you have a registered Dramabeans account, include your handle so we can link to it.
  • Include at least 1 image, though more are preferred.
  • Suggested length: Between 500 and 1,000 words.
  • Deadline: We will post these on a rolling basis, so we’re taking submissions starting now! We will cut off accepting submissions on December 24.

I've watched too few dramas this year, but I'm looking forward to beanie reviews. I also hope to read DB staff reviews and Editors' Picks! I always check these out for recommendations of what I've missed. :)

2020 has been such a blur, I don’t even think I’d be able to properly articulate what dramaland has been for me this year.... It took me a good hour (or 2? Lol) just to compile an Excel sheet of all the dramas I’ve viewed this year (but may not necessarily have been released this year) — the very first time EVER that I’ve felt I needed to compile a sheet/create a file just to look back to, and to think about, before the annual Beanie Count comes 😅😅

I’m excited to read everyone’s entries!! Can’t wait!

There was only one drama for me this year, and it was EVERYTHING ----- icy indifference, amnesia, anguish, pain, idiocy. Yes, I'm talking about THAT drama, the one that the FL @leetennant didn't even know she was starrIng in.

"She killed me with her indifference..."
The opening voiceover rips my heart open each time.

In my opinion, I think Irresistibly Indifferent has the best female lead of 2020.

Reading about 2020 will be interesting because there were good dramas this year but they usually weren't the high profile star vehicles that got a lot of coverage. How much mention will there be of the three excellent episodes of SF8, or 'How To Buy A Friend'?

2020 was the year of the quirky personalities. So many awesome main and side characters has brightened this year for me. The unabashed straight forwardness of Lim Whi (I'll see you on a beautiful day) the audacity of Ko Moon-young and her awesome BFF Moon Sang-tae (It's okay to not be okay) to mention a few. Looking forward to reading all the posts!

Aww, happy to see Zombie Detective used for the screencap. A fitting image for this crazy year - a possible fiery disaster contrasting with the image of a rainbow. XD

Looking forward to reading the entries! ^^

Yay!
I'm so happy to see the screencap from Zombie Detective too!
I love this scene (from Ep.7). Super funny.

Can't believe 2020 is almost over...
I'd love to read to beanies essays!

2020 is a wild dumpster fire. It also brought me many great female leads like Kim Hye-soo's Geum-ja in Hyena and So Ye-ji's Moon-young in It's Ok to not be Ok. I think both Geum-ja and Moon-young's flaws and their quests to overcome/to live with those flaws resonate with me so much. This year has truly knocked me down on all the worse ways like I'm sure a lot of beanies could relate to, and I didn't realize how much solace characters like Geum-ja and Moon-young provided me until now. :3 I know I've missed out many other gems wit strong female characters this year, but I will get to them all sooon~

This is one of my favorite segments although I, unfortunately, can't participate in it for reasons of time constraint but I have to say that even though this year has been such a rollercoaster for everyone around the world, a lot of KDramas delivered well. When times were uncertain, lonely, and challenging, there were a lot of dramas that warmed my heart..(Hospital playlist, I'll go to u when the weather is nice <3 ) They were like the hug I desperately longed for or the friendship that I always wished to have, a ray of hope that lightened my days. Another drama that I loved so much and that resonated with me was unfamiliar family: it was amazing how they portrayed family relationships in all their rough honesty but in such a beautiful relatable way. It's good to know that everyone is going through a different life and different circumstances even if we spent most of our lives together and to learn to be understanding and accepting of others and that even though there is sth relating us, we still need to work on our relationships to make them successful, even with family. I probably wouldn't have liked this drama 5 or 10 years ago but now... sure a lot of things change with age. I wouldn't finish I had to list all of the great moments kdrama offered for us this year but I felt like most of them tried to capture one thing in particular: human relationships with themselves and with others and coming to terms with who you are so that at the end you can accept yourself and other ppl as well :) I am so thankful to have kdramas in my life :)))
