Lee Do-hyun, Go Min-shi to star in new KBS romance

Lee Do-hyun, Go Min-shi

Casting has been confirmed for KBS’s new romance drama Youth of May with Lee Do-hyun (Sweet Home, Eighteen Again) and Go Min-shi (Sweet Home, Secret Boutique) in leading roles. Lee Sang-yi (Once Again) and Geum Sae-rok (Class of Lies) have been lined up as second leads.

The drama takes us back in time to a tumultuous period in South Korean history, May of 1980, just weeks before the Gwangju Uprising. It’s during this calm before the storm that our unbeknownst heroes first meet and fall in love.

Lee Do-hyun plays college student Hwang Hui-tae, who is studying to become a doctor. Although he encounters a lot of people who are prejudiced against him, he works hard in rebellion to prove them all wrong.

Similarly, Go Min-shi is no stranger to challenges as nurse Kim Myung-hee. At a young age she left her family home with just the clothes on her back and is resilient in the face of hardship.

In contrast, though, Lee Sang-yi’s character Lee Soo-chan comes from a wealthy background. After studying abroad in France, he now runs the family company along with his father.

Geum Sae-rok is his younger sister, Lee Soo-ryun, who is also best friends with Go Min-shi. As a college student majoring in law, she has passion for social justice and feels compelled to make a difference in the world.

Written by Lee Kang (Spy) and directed by PD Song Min-yeop (Doctor Prisoner), KBS’s new drama Youth of May is currently being planned to air in the early half of 2021.

Lee Do-hyun's talent is blowing everybody away and I'm so proud of him. I can't believe he went from third rower in 30 But 17 to leading man in just two years!

He has certainly blown me away. I liked his acting a lot in Hotel Del Luna, but he was AMAZING in 18 Again.

The Gwangju uprising/ general political unrest of 80s Korea always makes for an interesting context to stories (Reply 1988 and A Taxi Driver come to mind). Looking forward to this one!

To be honest, I'd have liked this more if it were an all-out political / thriller drama, rather than a romance, but the context and setting has me very excited. Unless it goes horribly wrong in some way (and I'm not familiar with the writer), I will definitely be watching.

The backdrop does sound interesting! I wonder how it will be incorporated into the story.

I like this period and both actors. It reminds me Girls' Generation 1979, that I loved. I hope for an OST as good as Girls' Generation 1979's OST.

I watched 2017 Korean movie A Taxi Driver and it made me happy to see this entire film cornered by the sad 40-year old anniversary of Gwangju Uprising. Like this, I'm in to this K-drama based on this tragic event. I knew that it'll compete by Snowdrop (based on 1987 South Korean protests).

80's? I hope we don't get "Sweet Home" hairstyle for LDH! 😆 Anyways, I'm utterly, butterly happy for the recognition Do-hyun is getting.
Also, LDH reminds me of Kim Seon-ho very much so I'm glad both guys are popping off.

Oh man, i thought i was the ONLY one who saw the resemblance...both their overall goofy-persona, and their standout variety show appearances! ^^
So happy they are finally getting their much-deserved recognition! :D

I think it will take me a moment to reorient but I've adjusted for Park Seo Joon and Hwang Jung Eum so I can for these two as well. This sounds interesting

And the rookie award goes to.....
He's amazing, he's like Kang Haneul when he's still does supporting role, doesnt need much screen time to impress the audience. Cant wait for more project from him.

I finished watching 18 Again an hour ago and was wondering how long I should wait until his next project. He was INCREDIBLY GOOD! I screamed a little when I saw this post!

This sounds interesting. I like them both and like the setting. It will be funny to watch them in a romance after Sweet Home.
