For 2020 the top dramas for me were the feel-good ones. While Kingdom 2 was a pretty well-made sequel and It's Okay Not to Be Okay had great visuals, the ones that stuck to my heart were definitely 18 Again 🏀and Hospital Playlist 🥼

So many dramas, so little time..

I have so many favorites this year like Hospital Playlist, FoS2, My Unfamiliar Family, Mystic Pop-up Bar, When The Weather is Nice and 18 Again but I have decided to give away my 22 beans to my top three favorites.
These dramas are truly remarkable for me and I know they will stay in heart for a long time.

I've come a long way since I first started watching kdramas in late 2019. Never had I imagined there'd be a day when I'd actually have enough beans to distribute! I realised I dropped well this year, and enjoyed almost everything I watched in full. So my beans are also distributed liberally.

Where's "Find Me in Your Memory"? That was my favorite drama of 2020, and entered my list for top favorites of all time too. I also don't see Record of Youth, which was not a favorite drama, but it has a great soundtrack!

Like many, I got to watch more dramas this year due to the pandemic and the work-from-home policy. I finished a total of 17 dramas - my highest tally so far. At first, I thought the tally should be higher but then I remember that I dropped quite a few that were not to my liking or when I preferred the second leading actors more than the main ones. Case in point: Start-Up.
The ones I had given beans (or stars in my case) here are all in my A-list but the number of stars given is based on how frequent I had rewatched them after they end. So here goes:

I just started watching Korean dramas last year. Most of my time in K-drama land was spent catching up on the classics from earlier years. So while I probably watched about 100 K-dramas this year (forced quarantine will do that to you), I only have 16 beans. Honestly, there are not many shows from 2020 I would watch again, some I wished I hadn't watched the first time (I'm glaring at you King: Eternal Monarch!), and one I'll watch on an endless loop until I die (you'll be able to guess which one that is).

Find Me in Your Memory - 8 beans
For me, this was the underappreciated, hidden gem of the year. It was brilliant in writing, directions, editing, music, costume, acting. Every scene was so rich and carefully crafted. And, it was just a lot of fun. If you haven't watched you should. If you have watched, you should watch again; their are some really brilliantly subtle acting and productions choices you just won't catch the first time around.
Mystic Pop-Up Bar - 4 beans
Fun, quirky, hilarious, and heart-felt. This one is a joy to watch.
Crash Landing on You - 1 bean
Love the ensemble cast of characters from N. Korea.
My Holo Love - 1 bean
A digital assistant that doubles a fashion accessory and perfect boyfriend, where can I buy?
Do You Like Brahms? - 1 bean
Sweet, romantic, but a little glum and shallow on the character development. Still, Kim Min Jae's beautiful hands and devastating dimples deserve some recognition.
Record of Youth - 1 bean
For the soundtrack. I listen to it all the time.

Close, but No: DoDoSolSolLaLaSol - It would have deserved a bean for being cute and quirky if it weren't for that travesty of an ending! I was so looking forward to Lee Jae-Wook in a first lead role, and I am wishing him many more. I loved Jae-Min and Mimi - even though they didn't get my beans, they earned gold stars from me.

And oh! I watched old dramas for the first time this year too, Search:WWW being the top fave. If I could give it beans, I totally would. So good! Too bad I watched it a year late. 😅😔

FINISHED - FAVORITES
Itaewon Class – Skycastle suspense. I just love it.
Start-Up – Great tight story. More realistic than Itaewon’s, but less dramatic. Han Ji Pyeong and Halmoni hit the home run. I hated Nam Do San. He created his own problems. I love love love Chulsan and Sa-ah. I was entertained. The business terms were boring.
Hyena - tight story. cannot deny the chemistry. just wish it would have been song hye kyo.
Forest of Secrets 2 – Ok so I watched the first ep of season 1 and didn’t like it. But oh I loved the police-lawyer conflicts. And watched season 1 because I liked season 2.
Kingdom 2 - i hate period shows but i can't deny this one was worth it. great story and production value. i just hate seeing the face of the nurse.
Find Me in Your Memory - it just makes me feel warm, much like weightlifting fairy.
It’s Okay to Not Be Okay - Great characters, great acting. at times laggy. cCazy mother plot story didn’t make sense at all though.
Record of Youth – Refreshing, that is Bogum’s face. He one handedly held the show to its success. Oh the moms were funny too.
365 repeat the year – 12 episodes tight. I hated Kim Ji Sun.
Kairos – Good so far. Middle a bit boring.

FINISHED - SO SO
Diary of a Prosecutor – Went by like a breeze. Neither boring, neither great.
Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim 2 – The politics. I missed this.
Hi Bye, Mama! - I don’t understand the point of it all. But it warmed my heart and made me cry.
Tale of the Nine Tailed – This would have elevated Lee Dong Wook to a different status. His acting improved. But Jo Bo Ah? Really. She sucked.

FINISHED – WHY?
People With Flaws – The siblings were fun. The story not so much. I just felt so sad the real second brother died in real life. But at least his character had a happy ending, and editing.
The King: Eternal Monarch – This tanked big time. It made no sense at all, only to see Lee Min Ho and Wo Do Hyun’s faces.

FAST FORWARD
9.9 Billion Won Woman – a bit boring.
Stove League – No love story.
The Game Towards Zero – Boring.
Memorist – Winding.

DROPPED
Crash Landing on You – I super like Hyun Bin, he’s my no. 1 favorite actor. I like Son Yeh Jin. But I don’t like it. I just don’t. So it was eps 1-4 and 16 for me. Hyun bin’s close ups made me swoon.
World of the Married – I read the British version recaps at wiki. And that was enough. It’s crazy like Skycastle, the crazy that I didn’t like. Skycastle was spectacular!
Hospital Playlist – Dropped at episode 1. Everybody liked it. Why didn’t I?
Will You Have Dinner With Me? – I watched a few episodes but it was boring.
Graceful Friends – Premier drop. So slow.
Do You Like Brahms – Premier drop. Can’t relate.
Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol – High school boy! Oh please?!!!
Private Lives – SNSD didn’t seem like she knows how to act.
The Spies Who Loved Me – Dropped at first sight. I hate Yoo In Nah’s dramas. She could do better.

My first bean count and I'm going to stop over thinking it. Tried to get one more bean by finishing Missing: The Other Side, but I want to savor this gem of a show. Only earned 12 beans from the 20 shows I started. Trying to catch up to veteran beanies by watching some older classics and have been blessed with My Ajusshi and Misaeng. Here are my "YAY 2020 is nearly over" votes:
CLOY: 2 beans because I shared it live with a co-worker who texted me from a trip to Disneyland with her kids to find out what happened in the finale.
Hot Stove League: 2 beans because my hubby watched half of it with me.
Hospital Playlist: 2 beans for laughs, tears and friendship
IONTBO: 2 beans for the weekly joy of sharing a live watch with beanies and for the masterful and compassionate depiction of special needs people.
Do You Like Brahms: 2 beans for daring to present the quiet power of introverts in a world that can't stop talking.
Mystic Pop Up Bar: 1 bean for its mix of fun, fantasy and found family
Start Up: 1 bean for my first experience with the slings and arrows of outrageous second lead syndrome. The fan fight was hilarious.
Enjoyed Weather for the book club and sassy sister as well as FoS2 and Itaewon Class but there aren't enough beans to go around.

I normally steer away from the mainstream dramas (e.g. CLOY) and am more interested in those underrated dramas with potentially good plots. Dropped a few along the way as I just couldn't stand the pace/ lack of deep plot e.g. when I was the most beautiful, sweet munchies.

The competition is really tough here, so there are some worthy dramas which I didn't get to allocate stars on. How I wish I could assign minus points to some bad ones and give at least 1 point to some other dramas...

Totally fell in love with Brahms this year. Relatable and swoony. I just adored it. SNF was a surprising hit. Unapologetically weird and off the wall. I need more dramas like it in my life.
