Kim Haneul gets a confession of love from Yoon Sang-hyun, Lee Do-hyun in latest 18 Again teaser

A new video teaser has been released for JTBC’s upcoming comedy 18 Again, featuring Kim Haneul (The Wind Blows), Yoon Sang-hyun (Let’s Hold Hands and Watch the Sunset), and Lee Do-hyun (Hotel del Luna).

The story, which is based on the American movie 17 Again, stars Yoon Sang-hyun as an everyday man facing hurdle after hurdle. He’s lost his job, feels ignored by his children, and his wife Kim Haneul is about to ask for a divorce.

As he struggles to find a way out of this mess, fate brings him a miracle. He suddenly wakes up in the body of his 18-year-old self (played by Lee Do-hyun) and he relishes the opportunity to re-live his happier younger days.

The newly released teaser starts with Yoon Sang-hyun and Kim Haneul sitting somberly together at a restaurant. Yoon is contrite as he admits, “Everything is my fault, Da-jung. I’m sorry.” Kim scoffs in disbelief, “I’m just really fed up. Let’s divorce.” Desperate, he grabs her hand and pleads, “I’ll be better to you, Da-jung.” But she remains silent and avoids his gaze.

The melodramatic music swells as the camera pans around, but the sounds warp when we see Lee Do-hyun sitting in front of Kim Haneul now instead of Yoon Sang-hyun. The camera moves back to reveal Lee’s high school uniform and he asks, “Please give me one more chance. I love you, Da-jung.” She firmly replies, “I don’t want to,” but drops her fork in surprise when she sees Lee sitting in front of her.

As Kim Haneul looks around at their surroundings, we see other diners in the restaurant who are shocked to witness a high schooler confessing to an older woman. Lee Do-hyun ignores them and continues to plead with Kim, “Da-jung, you are my first love as well as my last love. I love you.” But Kim is horrified at how this might look and frantically gestures at the other diners, trying to explain that it’s a misunderstanding. All the while, Lee just speaks louder, “I love you. I’m telling you, I love you!” The teaser comes to a close with Kim Haneul’s voice-over, “The story of how my husband went back to his 18-year-old body. 18 Again.”

Directed by PD Ha Byung-hoon (Go Back Spouses, The Sound of Your Heart) and written by a team of writers (Kim Do-yeon, Ahn Eun-bin, and Choi Yi-ryoon), JTBC comedy 18 Again is currently set to premiere on September 7 following Model Detective.

If there are much more dramas like this one coming up, I may have to spend more time watching American network television...

this turned out to be a wonderful drama, a very thoughtful and emotional adaptation of the original American movie. I'd recommend it!

The story worked for a movie but for a whole drama? I'm skeptical...

Me too. I like the drama and quite hilarious one (scene with ZA with "his" daughter who suddently felt for him 😆😆😆).
But really curious how they will thread it into 16 eps drama (is it going to be 16 or just 12?)

That 'Oh my gosh' is everything lmao! Though I highly doubt that the teaser appears in the actual drama since the male lead himself should have been shocked as well. (Unless they decide to have him gain the power to switch between body forms but that is another genre all together)

Also if you can recognise all the supporting cast from the video (male lead's manager from Lovely Horribly, female lead's colleague from Sweet Munchies, male lead's friend from Just Between Lovers, female lead's friend from Oh My Baby), you've certainly watched enough dramas.

But this drama does seem to have quite the interesting supporting cast list:
- Second female lead from Master's Sun
- Second male lead from Just Between Lovers
- 365: Repeat the Year's young male detective
- The small girl with trauma from Kill It
- Male lead's father from Backstreet Rookie
- Guy with a crush on female lead in Melting Me Softly
- The villain's solemn bodyguard from Tale of Nokdu
- Memorials's Chairman Jo
(Maybe I've watched too much...)

Plot-wise I don't anticipate much from this drama since it's a fantasy which lies around the concept of everlasting love. It'll be interesting to see how the remake tackles the rather deus-ex-machina ending the US movie had. Would the drama be brave enough to not follow with that stupid conclusion and have the young guy move on with his life? Would the drama explain the fantasy and use it appropriately for the story? These are questions I think I'll want answered. Lee Do Hyun is certainly good enough a reason to pick up this drama.

Oh wow Oska! And Kim Ha Neul, who I haven't seen in a while. 18 Again lol, well yet again what's up with K-dramas thing with high-schoolers? Couldn't he have been in college? The teaser with "Oh my gosh" was a bit put on/try hard to be funny. Lee Do-hyun has this look that draws you in lol. I can't wait to see him in Sweet Home (Whenever that may be). 17 Again was cute and had some heartfelt moments, plus Zac Efron in his prime too.

This is not really related to the post but I have been looking to catch up on some older dramas that I missed the first time around, and as will be evident below, I thought a post referencing Kim Haneul is likely to get a helpful response.

I am an older beanie whose taste runs to sober-minded sagueks (more Haechi, less Flower Crew), straight melos (When My Love Blooms, Piece of Your Mind and I'll Find You When the Weather Is Nice are recent faves), and witty comedies (as opposed to physical comedy -- unless Jun Ji-Hyun is involved.) The shows I have in mind are The Wind Blows, Maids and Jealousy Incarnate. Any thoughts as to the best choice among these? Or all three worth the effort?

I really loved Jealousy Incarnate but I remember that I needed time to really like it. The first episodes were not the best for me. I didn't watch the others 2.

Thank you for replying. I admire Gong Hyo Jin greatly and marvel at her range as an actress but Jealousy is hard to find with English subtitles except through, shall we say, unsanctioned, sources, and I try to be law-abiding. And I habitually prioritize comedies below melos. If anyone knows of a legal site offering this show, I would appreciate a heads-up.

I am an older beanie too, depending on how much older you mean! I truly disliked The Wind Blows, was bored with Maids, and love love Jealousy Incarnate. Although I didn't like the way they introduced the female lead in the very beginning of ep 1, but the rest is great.

Talking about serious sageuks and Jo Jung Suk, have you watched Nokdu Flower?

I did see and enjoyed Nokdu Flower. As I mentioned in another post, after Unfamiliar Family, I will now see anything Han Ye-ri is in, regardless of cast, script or genre.

I am curious -- with respect to Wind and Maids, what did you specifically find unappealing? Direction, script, or acting?

Ok now I am embarrassed! I thought you were shortening the drama That Winter the Wind Blows! I haven't watched the 2019 drama The Wind Blows! Sorry!

As for Maids, it seriously lacked the charm that good sageuks have in all the aspects that you have mentioned. Quite lackluster imho, and got too repetitive much too soon.

Haha, now I understand the "truly disliked" comment. TWTWB pretty much reeked, IMO. Thanks for the insight on Maids -- I guess I will be watching Jealousy on Youtube.

As a no longer all-that-young fellow beanie, and we're talking about Kim Haneul, have you seen On The Way to the Airport? I loved that.

Also Jealousy Incarnate is great. I had it on Netflix for a while, but it was called Don't Dare To Dream. It now seems to have disappeared in my region...

I caught episode one of Airport on a Friday evening, adjusted my weekend schedule and finished it by Sunday afternoon. And I have seen it again since that time. So, yeah, I agree whole-heartedly with you.

Changing your RL weekend schedule to watch dramas. Excellent lifestyle choice! I approve.

Well, actually I'm just happy I'm not the only one doing that.

I loved Jealousy Incarnate. It is in my top 3. Am an older beanie too. For me it struck all the right notes for me and I didnt even experience the 2nd lead syndrome most people seem to have with this drama. I havent watched the other 2 yet.

Reading that you prefer I'll Find You and something comedic made me think of Another Oh Hae-young. There are some truly amazing scenes there which broke my heart and made me lol. The FL (Seo Hyun-jin) has been my fav ever since (She won a Baeksang award for her role in this one though her later work didn't really appeal to me.) Kim Ji-seok is also amazing there.

Not sure if I'll end up watching it all but it's good to see Lee Do-hyun. Other than IU, he was my favourite thing about Hotel Del Luna.

this is more or less the same vibe as Go Back Spouses! The teaser is much much more slapstick than the drama actually is.

If the husband back to where he was 18 to love her again, then I guess Yoon Sang-Hyun time screen is less than his younger version right? Or no?

The teaser is well done! 17 Again plays so much on cable TV back home that I know the entire movie by heart. I'm not interested in this but will follow the recaps if there are any just to find out how they stretch the content and make it a typical kdrama. I keep imagining how it will be everytime I see 18 Again mentioned anywhere.

Drama sounds interesting. Hopefully, it will be fun.

JTBC has new drama starting Sept 5th - Number of cases - an Ong Seong Wu drama. Not been hearing much about that one. I wonder why they are not promoting it as much..

I'm happy that Lee Do-hyun at least go up to be 2nd lead. If he's still doing good , he could first lead someday!
The trailer is so hilarious :D
