Lee Seung-gi becomes rookie cop for tvN drama Mouse

It was reported back in April that Lee Seung-gi was considering a new drama, and now he has finally confirmed his next project (thank goodness because I needed something to erase Vagabond from my memory).

His new project is this tvN drama called Mouse, and he will be playing a rookie cop with youthful, idealistic notions about fighting for justice.

Mouse begins with the question: If you, an expecting mother, had confirmed with DNA evidence that the fetus in your womb was a psychopath, what would you do? In the drama, Lee Seung-gi pursues this type of natural-born psychopath killer who has instilled terror into the entire nation until a standoff occurs. Then, somehow they end up with completely swapped lives.

I really hope this drama is a hit for Lee Seung-gi, but his character does sound vaguely like the one from You’re All Surrounded. Hopefully, the psychopath angle will makes things more interesting.

Upcoming tvN drama Mouse is set to air in the early half of 2021 on tvN. Choi Ran (Black, God’s Gift – 14 Days) is attached to pen the scripts and the PD has yet to be announced.

I'm not too sure about this drama description. Can I ask for a King 2 Hearts sequel instead? I think I'd rather see LSG as a dad dealing with both politics (though not much of those) and also children who take after him (smart and smart-mouthed, and also probably more media savvy). Anyways, I'll probably check this out. Maybe. Who knows because the slump continues.

Better than the last 4 yes.

Watch him in Little Forest, a variety show with Park Nara, Jung So-min and Lee Seojin, where they have to take care of little children for a few weekends. He's really good!

Is Vagabond that bad? I did not watch it so I’m curious why some people wanted it erased from their memories.

Swapped lives like Face Off? Count me in!

It would be interesting how LSG will portray a psycho role.

Was Vagabond bad? Depends what you mean by “bad”. Objectively the drama was very bad and the ending rage-inducing, but it was super entertaining, at least for me.

I’m also interested to see LSY as a psycho.

Can you rate it from 1 to 10?

I love LSG but I am not a fan of Suzy that is why I skipped it. I thought it was a hit/good since I've seen some fangirls' rave reviews in FB.

It's hard to rate. Vagabond was terrible but enjoyably so. The ending was so bad that it made me laugh - I knew that somewhere people were having rage meltdowns. I wouldn't recommend it because a lot of what made it enjoyable was watching it week to week with everyone.

*sniffs* I miss the Vagabond recaps. Ahhh such fun.

8

True! The only reason it was bad but so entertaining for me was because we got to have the recaps and fanwall fun. Otherwise I would have raged alone in my room.

I did have a friend who enjoyed it, which I found strange but everyone have different tastes right 🤔😄

4

I would rate it an 8 but I would also agree with anyone rating it a 2. (*i don't know*)

LT is right, half the fun of the drama was making fun of it in the recaps. Suzy wasn't bad in it. Seunggi was good, and got some nice action scenes to do. To be honest, the worst part of it for me was the Netflix subs.

7

Yeah. Netflix is ruining everything kdrama believes in. First it was ARTHDAL for me and then VAGABOND.

1

I really enjoyed Vagabond right up until the end (excluding the end).

I enjoyed the early episodes of VAGABOND when it was in THE BOURNE IDENTITY (2002) mode. I loved the action and yes you definitely had to suspend disbelief because with all the hits, falls etc our hero took he should not have been breathing by episode three. There were also some sweet scenes between our hero and his nephew.

Australia's children's programming was a delight that has programmed my brain. For example, whenever someone says "Fruit salad" my brain makes me say "Yummy Yummy" thanks to the Wiggles. Sinister that.

6

We like to get them young. And teach them that there is no word that cannot be shortened in some way...

7

@leetennant, I was an adult. The parent in the room while my children watched and sang along...

They escaped the programming, and are excessively embarrassed by me.

4

I used to come to DB and talk about dramas. Really. I swear.

5

@LT- the shortening is just convenient. I dunno what the rest of the world is on.

@egads, dramas? what are those. 😂

6

My 3yo pronounces ‘dance’ wrongly because of the Wiggles. You’re a kiwi, child, stop mangling your vowels!*

Based on this writer's track record (although it's been a long time since I've seen Iljamae - Lee Jun Ki's version) I'm expecting some well done world building and some well written characters. Alas, the endings tend to force some unnecessary nihilism into the mix and plaster a smile on the nihilism.

I'll have to decide if I'm willing to trade the enjoyment of the first 15 episodes for the WTF-ery of the final.

This sounds terrible. I mean, it could be interesting but I don’t see a kdrama exploring a BSG path. Psycho will be super psycho and cop would be super good and nice and I anticipate a terrible ending.

I’d rather have a second season of A Korean Odyssey... if only they could bring back Puja back.

The description might be the weirdest description I've ever read. What will they do if the baby in the womb has psycho DNA? 😱

I wonder who the psychopaths would be...since the description makes it sound like LSG is one of the few non-psychopaths living in the place....kinda sounds like a zombie movie 😅.

I hope the drama would be good for LSG. Despite complaints surrrounding Vagabond, it did boost him as an action star, unfortunately his character was not given much range (shouting and jumping around 90% of the time). I personally think the role he needs more if he plans to showcase his range and acting skills...is to be a villain/someone who is morally ambiguous since I don't think he has ever been a villain in any drama. He's always the good guy.

Or he can just return to fluffy romcoms. His personality in varierty shows matches fluff very well. Hehehe

He needs to be in a melo. Didn't I say this during Vagabond. I think I did. I'll take egad's family melo for 3 chickens please.

Although I took the "swapped lives" to somehow mean the villain and LSG switch places, which makes me think of LSG playing the villain but idk the premise is kinda weird...

I hope that this drama will be good - no need for perfection. The King 2 Hearts was not, yet it was good. So far, his last few dramas had really awful endings - Gu Family Book, a Korean Odyssey and Vagabond.

Has he ever been in a melo? I've never watched anything of his fully - only clips.

Whenever I read one a plot description like this, I wonder what state of mind it takes to come up with these. And it doesn't end there - people sign up to act in it, direct it, and fund it. Wow. Nope. It can't be happening.

"Then, somehow they end up with completely swapped lives. "- so LSG turns into the psychopathic killer and villain? I mean that (id est, LSG playing a villain) is the only interesting thing about this premise for me other than LSG himself, which doesn't really count, because duh, it's LSG.

Super excited though I'm not feeling the premise. I hated God's Gift's ending and Black's ending was also pretty bad, but this writer has this weird ability to make me a masochist. I lap up the twists and turns in those two dramas - the breathlessness and high of the first 90% of the series before she goes too over the top, and you go "huh. that's dumb." Now I can't wait for this drama to jerk me around.

And bonus - you throw Lee Seung Gi into the mix...
