Go Ara, Lee Jae-wook to star in KBS youth rom-com drama

Go Ara, Lee Jae-wook

Watching her cameo on Hospital Playlist reminded me how much I wanted to see Go Ara (Haechi) in a drama again, and the drama gods have answered my prayers. According to the latest casting news, she and Lee Jae-wook (I’ll Find You on a Beautiful Day) will be headlining KBS’s Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol. The story is centered around the happenings of a small village’s piano academy called Lalaland. It’s been announced that they will begin filming soon.

Go Ara’s character is an energetic pianist named Gu Lala. She’s always optimistic despite a sudden life change that leads to overnight bankruptcy. She doesn’t despair—she follows the one ray of light toward a recovery full of laughter and tears, and begins the second part of her journey in youth.

Lee Jae-wook’s character is a seasoned part-timer named Seon Woo-joon. He’s a chic but warm-hearted free spirit. He doesn’t have any particular dreams or goals, but he does have a lot of secrets. Although he seems scary and tough at first, he’s very kind and sensitive. Seon Woo-joon and Gu Lala both have hidden emotional scars, but together they begin to heal.

Upcoming Wednesday-Thursday drama Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol, directed by Kim Min-kyung (Matrimonial Chaos) and written by Oh Ji-young (My Secret Terrius), will air in the latter half of 2020.

Same here...
Was relatively neutral about Go Ah Ra until I saw Hwarang... And that definitely turned me off... Still, She's second on my hate-list behind Jin Se Yeon so let's say, I still have a small hope she can do a good job. She just needs a project that fits her... BUT they seem to aim for a contemplative mood and bad acting can hardly be hidden is such an enterprise. IU would have been way better if you're looking for a young face next to Lee Jae Wook. Still Lee Jae Wook... Loved him in Extraordinary You ( YES, I was rooting for him though I knew it was doomed) so I'll be checking it out, but if Go Ah Ra doesn't level up her acting chops I'm out.

IU is actually better. She held her own in HDL against Yeo jingoo and made her character iconic. She was also amazing in My Ahjussi. I would have been more excited if IU was casted instead. I don't hate Go Ara but Hwarang definately traumatized me.

I do think Go-Ara had improved in Miss Hammurabi. So I am hoping she has improved.
On the other hand, I think IU has been doing very well. I did not like her in Scarlet heart, but I loved her performance in My Ajhushi and what little I saw of Persona.
Actors improve, and I do hope that's the case with Go Ara!

A good PD usually brings the best out of Go Ah-ra. "Reply" and "Ms Hammurabi."
Hwarang was a misfire for everyone involved lol.
It turned into an unintentional comedy in the 2nd half and wandered into the world of forgetfulness.

Happy for Lee Jae Wook's first leading role...The news inself isin't new as we knew about the drama coming months ago but still happy for him...Intresting choice of title as it isin't exactly the easiest to remember jaja... Can't say i'm to fond of Go Ara as a choice as she is among my list of actresess that i just don't click with the style of acting...Kinda wished a new face or less known artist to match him acting wise but well,we know how hward is for a drama to have a match made in heaven...Hope the plot at least will be good and fun...

The title is easy enough to remember as the first seven notes of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.

Why do characters in dramaland always have emotional scars that need to heal? If you have a scar that means you've already healed.

“Emotional scars” sounds way prettier and more poetic than “emotional scabs” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

The more I live, I have come to realise that almost every human being has emotional wounds that need to heal (maybe healing in the case of a wound means changing its name?) But anyways, most people have them, few realise they have them, and even fewer do anything to heal them.

People live their lives in autopilot hurting and being hurt because working on their emotional intelligence (trying to develop it) is just too much work!
They all live by the motto: I am like this or I am who I am, bla bla bla, as if that does mean necessarily they have a healthy self esteem...

So, collective critic aside, I really enjoy a healing drama, because at least it means the characters are healing something and becoming happier as a result. If I cannot see that in the real life, at least I enjoy seeing it in our beloved dramaland 😅

Wow, what a deeply insightful comment, Javinne. So quotable( I'm going to quote you, I hope it's okay please?)!!

This makes me miss the Beans Of Wisdom. That was a beautiful feature.

Thanks! I am in a healing process myself (due to childhood trauma) but living in a society where more than autopilot I see only indifference. Here from my perspective nobody hurts anybody because no one gets closer anyways enough to be able to hurt or love (if you think of a better outcome from exposing to a real human contact).
In general, it is tought. Sometimes, my surroundings make me feel I am not really living. 😕 So, that is why I tend to go to dramaland for comfort. Sounds sad, but for me it is better than nothing.

I wonder that too! I could not help noticing that favourite tropes for K-Drama are "Bankrupt parentage (mostly with debts)", "abandoned by (at least) one parent" and "some made up physiological trauma associated with emotional scars (or scabs as you please)". While sometimes it is done very well after 1000th versions of a similar thing, you just skip that part in summary as one more similar story.

I'm not Go Ara biggest fan, although I liked her in Miss Hammurabi.
I'm a big fan of LJW, and I know he can make it work with her.
And again, how does he always get paired with woman 10 years older than him?

I think it's because he looks older than he actually is! Lee Min-ki was also paired with pretty much only noonas until BTLIOF because he looked older than his age.

That said, I can actually see this pairing working. I'll at least be checking it out!

Totally agree. LJW rocks! His talent is kinda wasted in When the Weather is Fine, I was hoping for a role with more screentime and more importance (guess no one was really that important there anyways). Don't really like GA except in Miss H (just bcoz there was no real loveline there?). I will watch for LJW. Glad he is the lead finally.

I'm excited about the drama, although, like you, I'm a bit tepid about Go Ara. (I liked Miss Hammurabi, too, although not because of her or L; for me, this show was good because of Ryu Deok-hwan, Lee Elijah, and Sung Dong-il.)

The writer of "My secret Terius" is.... so-so... It doesn't make me feel excited.
But... I really love a healing drama, none would be so good like My Ajusshi, but if it is half so good, I will be ok with it. Plus, I am happy to see Lee Jae wook in a leading role. Don't know much about Go Ara, but she seems to be pretty decent....

Dude, calm down. It's just a damn opinion and a preference. If you don't like it, ignore it.

I don't know where you're getting "idol" from. Yeah, I like LJW. He's not an idol in the narrow sense of how that's understood in Korean popular culture and I don't idolize him. I like him as an actor and I think he's cute, but the people I idolize have done more than just act in some television show or movies that I like.

Also, to be frank, I don't care if it was offered to her first - this isn't a game of dibs, where the first person who yells, "I'm in," somehow has a prized claim or right to being in this drama that preempts everyone else's role in the show. And yeah, if I had control over LJW's work choices I would probably get him to skip out on this drama. But I don't. Oh well. Since I don't have the power force him out of this show, I'm going to watch it but with the reservation that I wish Go Ara wasn't in it. You may not like that opinion and you may wish I didn't express it, but I would just direct your attention to the first paragraph of this reply.

I think you are the one who needs to calm down. I commented a short reply and you returned with a novel. Calm down, right?

And as far as I know the word "idol" never changed its meaning in the dictionary. It may refer to the person you admire. So yes, LJW is your idol. You like him that much to even give so much time to answer my opinion. So I will return your words "why not ignore me if you don't like what I said?"

Poor you, you have no power to take your favorite guy out the drama. So it is either you suffer or just leave it out.

Why can't people be thankful and stop saying bad things on others? You think you've helped Lee Jae Wook by putting Go Ara down?

Well, I’m one of the few people who doesn’t dislike her! How am I going to hate the woman who gave life to my dear Na Jung?!
And again I’m one of the.. oh no! I’m the only one who isn’t really excited about LJW! I loved him in WWW but for me it’s tiring to see the same actor in dramas back to back.. I didn’t care about him in Weather. It was too soon to see him again.

I'm happy to see that LJW will be the first lead! He worked hard MoA, WWW, EY, When the Weather..., since 2018.

I'm not a big fan of Go Ara but she's not completely bad neither.

No debate about the difference of age? I guess only young actresses have this pleasure :p

TBH I am a little disappointed that Go Ara has to work with a newbie and way too young actor. She has done a lot and proven a lot in the industry. Since her debut, she is always used as stepping stone, and as a result, of working with most of newbies with egoistic fans she gains haters who happened to be people whose hobby is to blabber online. Go Ara has way admirable journey from her debut and up to these days. And despite all the IMMATURE people who bash her, she reamained cheerful and kindhearted - and I guess that is why she is respected in the industry.
