Dancing the Cuban night away for Boyfriend

Another gorgeous teaser from the Boyfriend team has been released, featuring our two leads, Song Hye-gyo (Descended From the Sun) and Park Bo-gum (Moonlight Drawn By Clouds), bonding over the beautiful beachside and beer. We also get a look at their lives outside their magical memories in Cuba.

Boyfriend is an upcoming tvN drama about two people who fall in love while they’re both on a trip abroad. Park Bo-gum plays a happy-go-lucky carefree man, whereas Song Hye-gyo plays an upper-crust woman who feels trapped in a life she doesn’t fully control.

In the video, the copy reads, “In a strange land,” as Song Hye-gyo asks, “Have you been to Malecon Beach?” Just about when she begins to say how the night view photo makes her feel, Park Bo-gum’s voice interjects that a Malecon Beach sunset isn’t complete without this music, as he hands her his phone with some earphones.

She then asks him for some money, and smiling, he asks how much. She replies, “Just the amount for one beer,” and we see them enjoying some beers by the skyline. Together they walk barefoot through the historic city of Havana, and together, they laugh and dance the night away.

Meanwhile, the voiceovers tell us a little bit more about Park Bo-gum and Song Hye-gyo’s lives. Park’s foray into Cuba is part of his month-long travel journey to end his twenties with a happy memory. In contrast to Park Bo-gum’s free soul, Song is shown with her fiance, played by Jang Seung-jo (Familiar Wife), who cynically asks if their lives were ever their own to live.

Back in Korea, when Park and Song meet again, he tells her that he was worried about her, but she replies that it’s okay because they have nothing to hide.

I have to admit that the teaser almost felt like a commercial for Cuba because the scenery clearly stole the show. I’m looking forward to this, if only to drool over more Cuban sights. Wednesday-Thursday drama Boyfriend will air on tvN starting November 28.

I'm still not over his hair though. >_< It looks more and more atrocious each time I see it.

Me too! As a matter of fact, I felt sad seeing the last shot in which it seems like he'll sport shorter hair for the majority of the drama.

Between the hair and the lipstick, he looks too feminine for my taste.

The hair's okay... certainly much better and more unique than the bowl cut bangs so often seen in kdrama. But I'm right there with you on the lipstick! Whew! That has to go. In some dramas, like Fox Bride Star, the lipstick on males is really distracting and not in a pleasant way. I hope this drama doesn't go thick with the male lipstick.

I don't get the male lipstick at all. A little lip balm should be it. I love his hair though.

Actually, come to think of it after your comment, I do like the hair. Just not on him. He looks like a girl enough as it is. And I usually like boys who look like girls.

@greenfields I saw the last shot with shorter hair and felt RELIEVED!! I miiiight actually watch this, now that it's been confirmed that atrocious hair is going to go away. LOL

I felt the same! That last shot was a saving grace. Grant you the hippie long hair seems to go with his character, but I am not a fan regardless. As @zzthorn says, at least it's not a bowl cut!!! lol

*nods* that last shot was a balm. Bowl cuts are for younger characters usually. Older male characters keep the hair different - I'm hoping for maturity from his character just from that last shot. 😅

I was slightly excited to watch this, but now it just doesn't look intriguing at all. Will probably just end up skipping this. Not a huge fan of either, and it doesn't seem like its been licensed in my area anyways.

I have a girlfriend I've known for almost twenty years and she is living in the Habana since 2012. There are definitively beautiful landscapes, but for most people living there, Cuba is a living hell. (At least what people imagine hell to be). A refrigerator is more expensive than in Germany, and most people earn less than 30$ per month. I mean... literally even less than 20.
My friend is a biologist with a master degree in soils. She is registered now for a p.h.d and has two jobs, but she earns less than 30$.
So... whenever I listen the word "Cuba", I have mixed feelings.
They won't affect me when watching those scenes from boyfriend because Kdramas are mostly fantasy for my soul, but when I come back to reality, even for a second, I know and I remember.
There are places like Cuba, where people lose all hopes, and there are places like Germany, where loneliness is the norm.
There is hope, of course, but they don't lie in the hands of men. That you can even see it on tv.

Forget about the plot, I wanna see Cuba!

It's "el Malecon" or "the Malecon", not "Malecon Beach", because it's not really a beach, but a seawall/road. Not to be picky, but just so you know!

And yeah, Cuba is beautiful, Cuban people are beautiful, but Cuba is complicated! Not easy to live there at all. Though I am sure Cubans will love this drama, because kdramas are super popular there.
