Well, perhaps part of the problem is simply that episodes are too LONG! I didn't make it through 40 minutes of episode 1, and that was even before the heroine first showed up. I would say TvN needs to take that into account, not just rewrite characters and the story.

it's completely unbeilevable writing and it starts from script. i find it funny that people are also judging the actress so harshly but there are shows (not comparing, since i know how defensive people get but just showing) like bok joo where the male lead is abysmal and so is the female lead but it gets farther because of the writing. that's generally how it goes.

from episode 1 the characters weren't believable even the main man because the constant misunderstandings put as at such a distance from the world. it's mostly unbelievable even in k-drama world and when we get no gratification it is EXTREMELY off-putting to the viewer.

i find the honesty good but i also find it kind of crazy that they're doing this. i hope they don't succumb too much to the public but if they figure out where the holes are in the writing and how to merge the wants and needs of the characters with a viewer who needs to relate and mostly to UNDERSTAND the motivations, then it gets somewhere.

episode one and two i just could not get behind anyone, specifically the woman which frustrates me because people are always so quick to push them aside. there's barely any rhyme or reason to each move one makes and if there is an explanation it's horrible stupid.

flaws and lots of other things make characters complex. so do many themes but the complexity and the themes are being forced instead of flowing? i think. and it's telling so many people are having trouble with the show outside of social commentary. also you cannot just have twists for twists sake. it's lovely and refreshing to show a different reality or side of life or what other k-dramas don't show but we need to be given it in a real way because that's ultimately what (most) k-dramas specifically romcoms try to do-and many succeed.

I still haven't watched episodes four. Do we actually learn, why she blames him for her sisters death? She must have had a reason to wait three years and now trying to out him for his crimes. But I don't think we were actually given a reason, other than her talk with the secretary.

I must admit there were a few scenes, where I imagined some other actress playing the female lead and wondering, If I would have felt the same disconnect.

What's more stunning and disturbing is that the production staff seem absolutely flabbergasted at the negative reception to the female lead (and they made sure to make that clear ha). It really makes me lose faith in the writer and the producers. I hope this is an eye opener for them and I hope they don't chalk it up to the audience being too picky or not understanding their vision.

I don't know how I feel about them announcing this to the whole world... I may be the minority, but I think they should have kept this decision under wraps and quietly changed the script without us really noticing.

For me, I 100% appreciate that they took this feedback to hear, and are going to incorporate it, but it makes me trust the writing/cast crew less when they obviously announce it to the whole world. Maybe it's me, but saying that you're rewriting your show is a bit of a red-flag. Like "it was that bad, that you had to announce it." And now while I'm watching this show, all I'm going to think about is that they wrote the show...

Good to know. All of the reasons javabeans stated are why I couldnt continue after episode 2. Perhaps if it gets better in ratings or reviews, I'll take it up again.

writing writing writing. And Direction. For me, 95% of the problems with this drama can be laid at the door of these 2 factors. But, it's true that even unpalatable characters can be made better by a good actress.

"Any new employee who saunters up to the boss’s office on her first day, ignoring that she’s already late, and snooping through his desk and grabbing his hair angrily was a really sudden and early way to lose me. Then to make this the heroine I was supposed to root for in a romance with the hero? Not bloody likely." Yep...this is the first time I talked to the screen I think. And as the episodes went on, the talking got longer and louder and more sarcastic!

"It’s definitely a fault of writing more than performance, but I do think there are actresses who are capable of being likable despite a bad setup, and she isn’t one of them. Still, if this complete overhaul results in toning down her misplaced and off-putting aggressiveness, I will be very grateful." I feel sorry for her because this is going to put a LOT of pressure on her which she may or may not be able to handle and that could affect her performance negatively. Which will make me even sorrier for her, but piss me off more to have a drama I had such high hopes for ruined. But...she also should have thought before taking on such a powerhouse role! This team and cast are primo and she can't ride on their coat tails...she has to be able to keep up and newbies need to be careful about jumping headlong into this kind of kettle. Man...I don't know how she is going to handle this because so much of the criticism is being dumped on her head and that's not really fair. If the writer hadn't written the character that way or the director had told her to tone down her aggressiveness and be more hesitant.....

Honestly, I wasn't that put off by her and was willing to wait and see how her character played out, but the writing of the overall plot was so irritating! There was nothing about it new or fresh and it was such a harsh whiplash from the dark suicide and bullying aspect to the lightness of blow up heads and cartoonish behaviors with background music to match. And that scene of them shoving him out on the stage was so cruel I was standing up in fury before I even knew it. These are adults...and don't tell me, as a viewer, that these people are all that obtuse, that stupid, that they can't see this guy has serious mental issues! We all went to school with kids like this, and the fact that this group of people so callously disregarded his feelings puts all of them in the same boat as the bullies from his youth and one step removed from his father.

I feel SO sorry for the cast, crew ....AND the writer. This is going to be so stressful. I hope they can get another hiatus to help them catch up. I don't mind waiting if it means a better drama! I expect the next news will be an episode cut from 20 to 16.

Thank goodness for the rewrite, though I'm not sure this will be able to make the lead actress more likeable for me. I was trying to stick it out for Yeon Woo-jin, but had to drop it after the 3rd episode. If I hear positive points about the new episodes, I'll try picking it up again.

Good move. Time to regroup.

I thought this was going to be another delay so overall I'm glad it's not.

But as I don't get any of the complaints, it's disappointing that the only new drama I've been waiting each week for is being changed completely.

I relate and find the characters to be realistically flawed and open. Here's hoping the changes to appeal won't lose me.

Any bets on an episode reduction, like TVN did with Surplus Princess ??

Frankly I'll be waiting for recap of episode 5 and 6 before attempting to watch again much as I love YWJ.

I stopped at ep 1. Read the recap of episode 2 and could not bear to read recap of 3 and 4 for fear of the worst.

I keep wondering if another actress - someone like Yang Jin Sung - would have been a better fit.

Honestly I'm not surprised this happen what surprised me was that for the First Time I Agree with Koreans Audiences. This Drama Needs to change because it Lacks Focus, Relatable Characters *aside from the Male Lead* and a GOOD Heroine.

Like I said in my last post I love Park Hye Soo the Actress but she was Not ready for this Leading role especially when the character was written to be very flawed on paper similar to how Oh-Hae Young was. Unfortunately this Drama just highlight how Green PHS still is and her lack of Breathing Charisma to a very complex character couldn't be better proof of that. In my humble opinion a more mature looking and seasoned actress was the correct choice for this character that PHS plays.

As for the screenwriting... Joo Hwa-Mi was Amazing in "Marriage Not Dating" so I'm Not really sure why he is having a Hard time with Introverted Boss this time around. I can only speculate that he is either having a Slump our maybe he rush to put his scrip together with out second thought and is know biting him in the A**.

As for the Director Song Hyun-Wook, I honestly can't say that the show is lacking in that department so I personally don't hold him accountable for the shows issues.

All in all Good Luck to you Introvert Boss! I will Read your Recaps in Dramabeans out of curiosity to see if you really change and if you do we might meet again.

I noticed that there is a tendency to have more comments under the recaps/news of the drama that are notoriously viewed by viewers (wow....page 2 already !) .....haha...kidding...anyway I think Protect The Boss is much better, at least we don't hate the lead gal from the beginning till now and we (at least myself) root and ship the OTP....and God knows we will dislike the lead gal/actress till when unless they decided to change the writing like now !!

I am just curious as to what site the network drew the "complains " from! So that next time we, the viewers, have some violent reactions, we know where to pour it. (Scarlet heart ,I'm looking at you!)

I expect a major overhaul am hope for a more satisfying drama in the next episodes

I feel just awful for Yeon Woo Jin - he deserves better! He is so talented, even in this garbage pile. Dropped after episode 4 for all the reasons others do not like: it has no idea what kind of drama it wants to be, the female lead is not likeable or relatable or even remotely realistic, the lead actress is pretty much the same as her character, the plot is a total hot mess, and it's choppy and just all around hard to watch.

I'm just hoping they don't do anything to Hwan-Ki's character! He's so sweet and lovable and his actor couldn't be doing a better job at portraying him! <3

He's literally the main/only reason I've been watching the show so far.

Thank. God. And thank the writers for taking the audience's opinions into consideration. This drama has sooo much potential, especially with the cast--hopefully they steer it into the right direction...and bring down the female lead's character like at least five notches.

Man, I know lots of people hated Ro-woon, but I still loved her and especially the setup. I mean, we can forgive cold chaebol heroes who actively attack the heroine and endanger her relationships or livelihood out of pettiness or pride and give them the benefit of the doubt, but we can't look forward to the character growth in a heroine who literally thinks the hero caused her sister's death?

Yeah she's a bratty kid and acts before she thinks, but it was set up that way for her to be the opposite of the hero, who overthinks every action so much that he never ends up doing anything. It would have been so fun to see them meet in the middle, for her to grow up and him to jump his hurdles.

What I find a bit irritating is the misapplication or type casting of the term introverted and extroverted.

In my experience, extroverts are (generally) of higher EQ, understand social situations well and know how to generate interaction. Not pushy, loud and, almost as a rule, offensive. They love company and people and derive "energy" from interaction which makes them very adept socially.

Introverts (like myself) tend to lose energy from social interaction, avoid frequent gatherings and zone out for quiet time. But introverts do socialize as needed but just find it difficult - they are not necessarily (and seldom) shy or awkward. Nor are they necessarily insensitive, inarticulate or inexpressive.

What the show describes as extroverted is actually manic and borderline psychotic. The "introvert" is more likely a moderate to severe form of SAD.

Well.. In upper post I read some beanies mention not to compare Park Hye-soo to Jun Ji-hyun's level. Now let's drag the level down.

Remember Suzy's character Go Hye-mi in Dream High? She is not likeable at all in the beginning. Albeit given difficult background, she still treats her friend harsh, self-centered, and think highly of herself. Then she realizes all her faults and begins to change, like what her teacher teaches her. Despite the acting, I still respect how Go Hye-mi's character is written. She is one of heroine who has big character development.

I am expecting Ro-woon to redeem herself the way Hye-mi does.

Wish we got smooth and neat change.
