Go Hyun-jung suffers third-degree burn, filming pauses on Dear My Friends
by girlfriday
Eek, Go Hyun-jung had to take some time off from filming her new drama Dear My Friends when she sustained a third-degree burn on her hands and feet a few days ago. Producers clarified that the injury was not sustained while filming — it was something that happened off the drama set in her private life — but the actress is now out of commission while she gets treated for her burns, and filming halted today because she was unable to make it to set.
She’s reportedly doing okay and recovering, and wants to return to set as soon as possible. But… third-degree burns! The producers stated that they aren’t worried about changing the schedule to accommodate Go Hyun-jung’s recovery, since the show is half pre-produced. I’d say it’s another strong argument for filming ahead of schedule, even if it’s halfway. Go Hyun-jung’s reps stated that she’s being treated for her burns and will be returning to set soon, and that she will attend the show’s press conference next Wednesday, May 4.
Dear My Friends is tvN’s upcoming Friday-Saturday series from acclaimed writer Noh Hee-kyung (It’s Okay, It’s Love) about a group of seniors living youthfully in their twilight years. It stars veteran actors Kim Hye-ja, Yoon Yeo-jung, Na Mun-hee, Joo Hyun, Shin Gu, Kim Young-ok, Go Du-shim, and Park Won-sook.
The series premieres May 13 on tvN.

Oh almost no question. Third degree is complete skin destruction and possibly into the underlying tissue. Skin grafts will be necessary unless they are tiny tiny burns (like from droplets).

Aaahhh!!!! Third degree?!?!
That sounds terrible and so painful! I wonder what happened that both her feet and hands were injured like that.

Don't want to sound like an ass, (sorry Peeps!) but 3rd degree burns damage the pain receptors or something so you don't feel it anymore.
Just remembered this info cos a nurse told me that when your burn doesn't hurt, you know it's really bad.

That sounds worse. Does that mean that she's lost all feelings in those areas?

@peeps Yup @mary is right- the burn was deep enough to damage the nerves. It's much more serious than 1st/2nd degree burns. But she will recover to an extent but probably not completely.
That being said, I think it's unlikely she has fully third degree burns over her hands and feet because that would be very serious. Where I come from patients with burns on hands and feet need to be sent to the special burns unit in a particular hospital to be cared for by specialist doctors. Can't be treated just in a random hospital. Cuz if they scar they can impair function very badly- functioning and mobile hands and feet are impt! Also usually third degree burns need surgery to graft skin for them to heal. So if she is going back to work so soon, I doubt it is that serious. Hopefully!

3rd degree burns almost invariably leave significant scarring, and take quite a while to heal. This is concerning. And on her hands, such scarring would be very difficult to disguise. Hands AND feet? What in god's name happened? I'm concerned too that next Wednesday's press conference is too soon to start making promotional appearances. I hope they'll give her adequate time to heal before taxing her schedule witH drama duties.

I hope she gets well soon. Burn injuries are painful and they scar most of the time. I think it'll take more than 4 weeks for her to get back on her feet.

It sounds like she was maybe picking up a pot or something hot and dropped it.
I hope she is OK and heals up well.

It's lucky the drama is pre-produced, even halfway... I'm glad more and more dramas are being made like this, it benefits everyone, from the hardworking actors and people behind the scenes to the viewers who are interested in quality. I'll be praying for Go Hyun-Jung's quick and complete recovery.

It made me mad to see the articles harping on about how the filming schedule might be affected - seriously, people? Is this really the time?
I wish Go Hyun Jung a speedy recovery!

I hope she gets well soon.
I just got a 2nd degree burn last week, so I can kind of imagine, what she is going through even though mine wasn't as bad.
I hope more and more production teams will switch to prerecording. Looking at this incident, the advantages are really clear. You might not be able to response to the audience, but if your lead would get injured in the middle of the airing, then you would have to halt the whole drama.

Don't think it's 3rd degree burns. She could not come back to word just like that. Patients with 3rd degree burns are in a special care unit for months before going home, much less working.

Having had a third-degree scald burn, it's actually not as bad as a third-degree regular (fire or hot object) burn. You don't need months to go back to do regular things, but you do need months to treat it so that it gets back to as close to normal as it can.
She will most likely have permanent scarring in the areas of the third-degree burn. And depending on how much and where scarring occurs might have to have skin grafts to get more mobility and functionality.
Hope she heals well.
