Gong Hyo-jin considers Producer opposite Cha Tae-hyun

I love it. This drama is doing so many things right, and it’s not even on the air yet. Producer, the new KBS drama from the writer of You From Another Star, is courting Gong Hyo-jin (It’s Okay, It’s Love) to complete the leading cast. If she signs on, she’ll play opposite Cha Tae-hyun, which would totally make my day (so far he’s the only one locked in to star; Kim Soo-hyun and IU are still considering their offers). They’d make one hell of a foursome, so everyone start calling in your karma points and doing your rain dances.

Gong Hyo-jin has been offered the role of a 10-year veteran variety PD, which puts her in the same starting year as Cha Tae-hyun’s character. She was a wide-eyed young innocent when she first entered the variety division of the television network, but has now become a hardened, contentious survivor. She’s smart and haughty, but also has a bumbling streak which lessens the overall effect of her arrogant demeanor.

Her character’s got a chip on her shoulder because of having been alienated in the past, so it leads her to be a bit childish, namely by trying to use her programs to showcase the extent of her power. She’s so prideful that she says whatever is on her mind, whether it’s in front of the department head or the director of the network.

Cha Tae-hyun will also play a veteran PD, while Kim Soo-hyun is being courted to play a rookie PD who ditched law school and came to television in the name of love. IU is considering a role as a top star, an ice princess who’s been burned too many times to trust anyone.

Writer Park Ji-eun (You From Another Star) is penning, and star variety PD Seo Soo-min (Superman Returns, 1 Night 2 Days Season 3) will be at the helm. I was already excited about the new series, but Gong Hyo-jin is one of my favorite actresses, so obviously I’ll be over the moon to see her being charming and funny next to Cha Tae-hyun. Fingers crossed.

Producer is hoping to start shooting this month for an April broadcast, tentatively on Fridays and Saturdays beginning April 17.

Whoa this is going to be the it drama if everybody signs on! You From Another Star isn't my all time favorite even though I was obsessed with it, but I guess I trust this writer. I'm expecting another sassy banters between sassy characters!

I hopehopehope Hyojin will take this role. It'll be fun to see her with Cha Taehyun and I've been dying to see Kim Soohyun in another role!

I actually see some risks here. GHJ playing an edgy second female lead is very dangerous for the actress who plays the female lead. I'm not sure IU would be up for that task ...

Well, are they really billing CTH and GHJ as 'second leads' though? I have a feeling this will be more of an ensemble cast rather than a classic foursome comprised of 1st leads and 2nd leads.

dear she will never be a second female lead, based on my friend who is korean and who is a k drama addict also, the possibility of her being asecond lead on a drama is 0%, she said its very impossible in K-drama that GHJ will be a second lead..

Said it yesterday, I'm excited for this, more for the writer than the cast. Looks promising.

On another note, I kind of miss the days Dramaland seemed to have a never-play-twice-with-the-same-actor rule. It's more fresh when actors play with different co-stars, and frankly, it makes it seem more genuine. Putting two actors together when they already worked together in the past makes it seem like you're doing it because they elicited good response in the past, which makes you look like a money-hungry PD. Plus, people have a harder time separating the old OTP from the new OTP. Just not a thing I'm digging.

I swear it's too good to be true. Cha concubine and Gongvely LOLOLOLOL My dream couple for a comedy drama. I'm not a usual fan of comedy genre but 100% a fan of these two!!!! Perfect combination I tell ya. The chemistry will not be a problem and the premise seems promising. I do hope I'm right about the couple though cos the other two leads don't give me any excitement, but I'm open to good, well-written roles despite the actors in this case. Because I'm watching it for sure, may as well be unprejudiced to the others in order to enjoy it.

I am more excited about the writer than anything else. PJE is my favorite K-drama writer at the moment. From QofRevs to You Who Rolled in Unexpectedly to YWCFTS, her works progressively got better and better.

By the way, shouldn't this drama be titled "Produsah" instead of "Producer"? I think the drama makers want to convey something by calling it 프로듀사 rather than the conventional 프로듀서.

Sorry but IU .... can we replace her? She looks too much like a baby .. and doesnt suit the female lead.

I tried watching her in Pretty Man and You're best lee soon shin.. and couldn't stand how YOUNGGG she looks.. like a little dongsaeng of the male leads.

To be honest even though the pairings are GHJ and CTH I actually like the thought of GHJ and KSH, CTH and IU more

This news just made my day! <3 I know not CTH, but with GHJ, I'm sure he'll be able to act much better than he usually does. Just like how GHJ helps her fellow actors in every drama. This is actually like a dream come true! I really love GHJ and KSH, and now that they'll be together on a show, It's really amazing. Daebak! I'm really in for the long haul. ^___^

As for IU, well never saw her in any dramas yet but I heard she's a decent singer. And she looks adorable. The KSH & IU pairing will be what people expects but still, I hope it'll be GHJ & KSH pairing. :)
I'll keep my fingers crossed. Jinjja.

I hope GHJ does not confirm.....it will totally ruin it for me. Drama God please not another one. I skipped master sun and it's okay it love in spite of the fact that my favorite actors are there because I cannot stand her repetitive acting. She has the same expressions and her voice is totally annoying. She looks the same in all her dramas wahhhhhhhh!

I will watch this drama bec my fav actress is here.. idc to all the bashers who say that she is ugly, coz no one is ugly... And for me her acting is great coz she act natural that's y many newbies saying that Ghj is their role model. I love her so much...

I've always thought that Gong Hyo Jin is the female version of Cha Tae Hyun. They are not very good looking but when it comes to romcom they are the best and delivers the character very well. Who needs good looking actors who can't act. I am really excited Gong Hyo Jin accepts the role.
