Gong Hyo-jin considers Producer opposite Cha Tae-hyun

I love it. This drama is doing so many things right, and it’s not even on the air yet. Producer, the new KBS drama from the writer of You From Another Star, is courting Gong Hyo-jin (It’s Okay, It’s Love) to complete the leading cast. If she signs on, she’ll play opposite Cha Tae-hyun, which would totally make my day (so far he’s the only one locked in to star; Kim Soo-hyun and IU are still considering their offers). They’d make one hell of a foursome, so everyone start calling in your karma points and doing your rain dances.

Gong Hyo-jin has been offered the role of a 10-year veteran variety PD, which puts her in the same starting year as Cha Tae-hyun’s character. She was a wide-eyed young innocent when she first entered the variety division of the television network, but has now become a hardened, contentious survivor. She’s smart and haughty, but also has a bumbling streak which lessens the overall effect of her arrogant demeanor.

Her character’s got a chip on her shoulder because of having been alienated in the past, so it leads her to be a bit childish, namely by trying to use her programs to showcase the extent of her power. She’s so prideful that she says whatever is on her mind, whether it’s in front of the department head or the director of the network.

Cha Tae-hyun will also play a veteran PD, while Kim Soo-hyun is being courted to play a rookie PD who ditched law school and came to television in the name of love. IU is considering a role as a top star, an ice princess who’s been burned too many times to trust anyone.

Writer Park Ji-eun (You From Another Star) is penning, and star variety PD Seo Soo-min (Superman Returns, 1 Night 2 Days Season 3) will be at the helm. I was already excited about the new series, but Gong Hyo-jin is one of my favorite actresses, so obviously I’ll be over the moon to see her being charming and funny next to Cha Tae-hyun. Fingers crossed.

Producer is hoping to start shooting this month for an April broadcast, tentatively on Fridays and Saturdays beginning April 17.

Woah.. what.. how does this work? 4 of them must be leads. I sense a big hit coming if this really come to pass.

You can't put CTH and GHJ as second leads, that will be a waste.
But I don't believe KSH and IU relegated to second leads too. They're too 'big' for that.

Though honestly I'm much more excited with the veteran pairing than the younger ones.

A two-couple drama, each one is Gold in itself.

Unpopular opinion... But can we please trade out Kim Soohyun for Shin Sungrok/Park Haejin (since they were also part of stars), and IU for Jung Somin? Please?

I hate not being able to jump on the bandwagon with everyone else.... But really not a fan of Kim Soohyun nor IU.

I admit that my high opinion of her comes from her natural, down-to-earth acting in You're the Best Lee Soon-shin.

SO I do think this role, in particular, will be more challenging for her to pull off, but I think she can do it!

I like Sungrok as much as the next fangirl (probably a lot more) but the man's already done 4 dramas in one sitting last year. I want to see him in dramaland soon, but for now, I think he should just kick back and relax a bit first. He's currently on holiday in Japan, anyway.

Lol, I can relate, I've felt that way. In this case I'm now interested because of Gong Hyo Jin's offer so we'll see...

I like IU fine, but I haven't been into Kim Soo Hyun since Dream High. I dunno what happened because I loved him in that and was rooting for his character all the way but his other projects have either not interested me or piqued my interest and then lost it somehow? It's a good way to make my love die ): Maybe if he re-unites with IU it could be fun, though? I think Shin Sung Rok and Park Hae Jin might be a little too old...or look a little too old, though.

I do like Jung So Min but I also kinda wanna see IU as an ice princess and not bright and bubbly. Anyway, only one person has actually signed on so who knows what will happen.

True... lol. Just wanted to let the producers/script writer know that there were other talented actors in that drama they could have used.... Just incase they ever hear my pleas.

I have a sack full of young actors that I'd pick over Kim Soo Hyun anyday... But as for actresses... I have so very few that I love, and they don't get enough love from the mass public. ;(

KSH is a decent enough actor where I never really had an issue w/ his acting chops (aside from his crying pretty much exactly the same way every time), but at the same time, I have never noted his acting to be at that "next level" either (the fact that he won the grand award over Han Suk-kyu was a complete joke).

Definitely not a reason why I would give this drama a try (IU also, for that matter).

But GHJ and Cha-concubine - yes.

Just because your opinion is that he isn't that much of a great actor does not make him winning Daesang and Best Actor trophies a 'complete joke'. That is really rude and borderline hating and bashing. You could have just stated that you think HSK deserves it more because in your opinion he acted better instead of throwing in an insult. People have different taste and opinions so I respect yours but do you really need to throw in insults just to state your opinion?! Clearly all the juries and critics who voted and watch all the dramas and deliberate the actor acting think KSH is the most deserving one. I think so too since I was so impressed by his acting in TMTETS and many also thought so. But I never go around belittling the other actors who I think isn't that great in acting but recieved the awards because my opinion doesn't necessarily equates truth or a fact.

I was just tick off that this was a GHJ article but everyone is talking about KSH, his casting, his popularity, his acting, his appeal and every single thing you could criticized and hate about him when this is not even his article. I just don't get it how people kept saying they do not like him, kept belittling and complaining about him but are the one who kept bringing him up every single time even more so than his own fans. Does that make sense? I like him but I don't even mention or think of him as much as the people who claim to not care or like him.

@krys11 i do agree so much with you.. if you notice, other actors winning any awards much little recognition than ksh already received, you can see they brag about it how much their favorite actor win and need to explain the award is from critic etc.. when somebody said their fav not so good in acting, they counterback saying if not why they win this and that.. it just funny. but i never saw any ksh fans bragging how ksh wins many awards that mostly recognize by critic instead his haters bring it to say he is overrated. that show how jealous people are. but for real, rating, awards recognition show it all. no need to talk more.

It's obvious why people like to bash or put down KSH. Jealousy is a hugh motivation. Who is not envious of his success? It's always the same people saying the same crap. Could careless about these comments because ultimately what is reality is most important. He is popular and the most sought after actor whether you agree or not...

Um, you do know that those awards shows are pretty much known as being "POPULARITY" contests rather than actually awarding the best acting - so more like The People's Choice Awards than the Academy Awards, but even the latter falls prey to popularity ("The Titanic" winning over "LA Confidential").

And yes, it was even more of a joke than usual due to Han Suk-kyu losing out for his phenomenal performance in "Tree With Deep Roots."

KSH was OK in TMTET, but do you really think he was worthy of the top acting award when Yeo Jin-go OUT-acted him as the younger version of the King?

And what? People can't speak the truth?

There are plenty of K-celebs that I really like (such as Yoon Eun-hye, Kim Tae-hee, Suzy, etc.), but I'm not going to gloss over the fact that their acting has been lacking for the most part (tho KTH has shown a lot of improvement recently, but some of her early stuff was painful to watch).

Someone who I am jealous of would be Han Suk-kyu for his great acting ability or Kim Sung-soo for his cool factor and looks.

But KSH - no.

Oh, gee - I must then be "jealous" of Gong Yoo, Won Bin, Hyun Bin, Soong Jong-ki, etc.

And must then be more "jealous" of the ones who I find not be as good of actors.

What can one say, except that KSH has been extraordinarily lucky w/ his career and drama choices.

Can't think of one that I watched where he stood out in any way (YFAS - was all JJH and Shin Sung-rok, even if his role was a bit of a caricature of a "baddie").

In TMTETS, Yeo Jin-goo way outshone KSH (as did Kim Yu-jung did for Han Ga-in); much more excited about YJG's casting news, except sadly, despite his talents, he doesn't yet have the star pull that KSH has.

KSH was fine in "The Thieves" as well, but he didn't really seem to fit in (seemed too young).

But hey, the PD had to cast him to bring in the young/female crowd and it seems like that is what a lot of PDs are doing now, wanting to cast him so they can sell the rights to their drama for a higher price in China where he is now a huge star.

And why not a young actor be able to beat a veteran in term of acting? If he was not that young, he may have even got daesang for that role, like Hyunbin with secret garden. And there was no daesang for that year. And yes, Han suk kyu and his secret door was a shame.

I don't know what people you are talking about. But I, for one, don't feel that way. I would love to see KSH (as well as GHJ) again in this drama.

I think people forget that we are talking about a very young actor here, meaning he has a lot of challenges to face in his career and a lot of room to grow in the future. He certainly has not matured and peaked as an actor, but a lot of people here are talking as if he has and as if he will stay one way indefinitely. I am happy that he is taking on more roles and working hard to hone his acting skills.

I commented in the previous post; I think this drama can do no wrong with its casting and it was announced like two days ago! I'm was already so excited for KSH-CTH-IU and now with GHJ on board (hopefully!) this is going to be my most anticipated drama in years.

The coupling is interesting since they'll be going with the expected. I definitely think this will be a drama where all four leads are showcased equally which is very rare for a kdrama. I love it and hope this will set off a new trend.

Yea exactly! I also expected GHJ and KSH because they're the more popular-Hallyu names. But who knows what'll happen in the drama. There could be a switcheroo somewhere down the line but this is ideal and I hope it stays this way. I'm tired of love triangles as it is, why add that when two separate love lines is perfectly feasible?

But in different article they never stated that CTH-GHJ is the pairing. In both Naver & Nate article I have read about this drama, in no where they said that it was CTH-GHJ and KSH-IU pairing. People just assume because of the age. I actually have a huge feeling it will be KSH-GHJ instead. And that the reason KSH's character drop law school in order to be a Variety PD was because he fell in love with GHJ character who is a Variety PD so he decided to be like her.

It made no sense that the one he fell in love with in his character description is IU character because if she is then he would have just give up law school and pursue being a celebrity instead. Either acting or singing. But he particularly chooses to be a Variety PD which means it is more logical that the girl in his character decription who he fell in love with was the Variety PD female lead role. So you know he can work with her (or maybe even stalk or made a move).

Lee Min Ho and Park Shin Hye in no way come with the same guarantee of quality as do Cha Tae Hyun and Gong Hyo Jin. I'd watch those two act out the crappiest daily drama that ever reared its head and still enjoy the heck out of it.

word is that the OTP is apparently Kim Soo-hyun and Gong Hyo-jin's characters (as in, he starts out with a huge crush on IU and loses it in favour of variety PD sunbae GHJ).

Either way, she's in so I am too. You're right about the guarantee of quality, I've never hated any of her dramas that I've seen (almost all of them)

If this drama end up with this combination of lead... sure, I'm off. I'm not into the leading actress... and it make me don't have desire to watch this drama.

Still I'm waiting for another drama to confirm its lead.

This role sounds a bit similar to Ji Hae-soo, in that she's haughty and prideful. The 'bumbling streak' seems to be a good distinct point that'll separate the characters. Plus, I'm confident GHJ will bring make this role her own. I'd take these kind of characters over Candies any day, and we all know GHJ dislikes Candies and Cinderella stories. If she accepts the role, it's probably a good one.

CTH was enough to get me excited about this drama, but I'm openly a GHJ fangirl. So this drama is 10x more appealing now. I'll tune in just for them. Please, dramagods, don't let these talented people be wasted.

Come on, this better be true. My last comment was to see gong hyo jin and cha tae hyun together in a drama. I was just having my hope but not really expecting it. If she confirms, lets have cth-ghj love line compare to ghj-ksh. Can't wait. Please confirm soon and i shall dance in my rain to wait for the confirmation. Excited!!!
