Teasers and stills for weekend drama Rascal Sons

Okay, this drama looks adorable. It also looks a whole lot like Ojakkyo Brothers, right down to the title signage and the overlapping second brother, but eh, most family dramas are pretty much cut from the same cloth. Here’s a look at the upcoming weekend drama Rascal Sons, starring Lee Sung-jae, Ryu Soo-young, and Seo In-gook as three overgrown man-children wreaking havoc in one family. I love the literal kiddy-toy, pacifier-sucking, husband-lassoing imagery that tells me exactly what I’m in for.

Lee Sung-jae plays First Son Yoo Hyun-ki, a widower and single dad with a daughter. So he can’t be a complete baby, though it’d be great if his daughter were more mature than he is. His character is described as a complete square — as straight-laced as they come. He hasn’t opened up his heart in a long time, but then Myung Se-bin enters his life, a single mom as well, and he falls in love.

Second Son Yoo Min-ki (Ryu Soo-young) is a martial arts fantasy novelist who has been in love with the same woman for ten years, played by Han He-rin. Only she’s now engaged to his best friend. Uh-oh. I like the idea of a shy and socially awkward Ryu Soo-young, who mostly plays smooth charismatic guys, not the guy complaining about being permanently stuck in the friend zone.

Seo In-gook plays the maknae Yoo Seung-ki, who’s the biggest troublemaker of them all: he’s a playboy and a divorcé. So young? He marries his wife, played by Yoon Sae-in, really young because he gets her pregnant and has no choice in the matter. They look like the most adorable little family in the happy stills down below… but it turns out he’s a cheater, and a bad one at that (namely in that he always gets caught). Oy and oy. So Playboy Maknae gets two love interests — the mother of his son, and then the new woman in his life played by Shin Da-eun.

I’m still in Answer Me 1997 innocent Yoon-jae’s world, so it’s hard to wrap my head around this new character for Seo who’s a father and already married and divorced, though I like that he’s playing a completely different type of character. But is it too much to ask for more than three days of mental preparedness between dramas?

Ready or not, Rascal Sons premieres next Saturday September 22 on MBC.

AHHHHHHH it's the badboy version that Yoon-jae kept hidden all this time. Love that show and I'm goin I be soooooo sad when it ends!

Plus I love the story line of the middle brother who's in live with his bf's fiancé! Bet they end up together anyways.

I'm so watching this!

Okay, so major spellcheck FAILS:

What I was saying was that "I'm going to be so sad when it --- and by it of course I'm referring to the awesomest and now my new all time favorite show, Answet Me 1997 --- ends"

And that "the middle brother who's in LOVE luv luv with his best friend's girl" storyline just sounds really intriguing because, let's be honest, who hasn't experience unrequited love before???

And may I add that I'm so excited to see Seo In-gook as a baby daddy.

This is going to help me so much with my Answer Me 1997 withdrawal. I'll definitely be checking it out for Seo In-Gook, but it looks really cute, so I'll probably be staying for more than just his acting. Though I will be waiting to see him play the bad boy character since it is so different from his 1997 one.

LOL. ditto! I know it's supposed to be a younger, edgier type of haircut but I can't really picture RSY as the edgy rocker type. Honestly though, his promo picture reminded me of Oguri Shun for some reason...his script reading hair looks good though lol!

It's supposed to be 50-ish eps. Most weekend family dramas are that long. I don't doubt that they'll add to it if it is well received.
But that RSY hair! Sometimes I don't get these hairstylists. It's like the men are too pretty, so they've to think of ways to mess them up.

I think the opposite. He looks great with this hairstyle, just wonderful. I really hate when the hair takes over his forehead, and hides his face. In my opinion, his best appearance was in My Princess (Although I barely survived 3 episodes) and here he looks appetizing. Yummy! Go Soo Young!

SIG's bride- love that dress.Best simple wedding dress I've seen for awhile in K dramas.
However will only watch if there's subs.But man it looks so interesting though.Am already watching 2 weekend dramas and there is just not enough hours of the day.

Yeah, like many others, I'll catch this for Seo In-gook. Just how many times can one listen to the song All For Love (studio ver. & the live M Countdown ver.)? Been listening to both over and over and over since yesterday. Can't wait for Answer Me's last episode. ;)

ryu soo-young is in another family drama? didn't he do ojakgyo brothers? not complaining! i like seeing him act, and yoon-jae is a plus. i'm not familiar with the actor playing the oldest son, but i think i'll like him a lot better than the guy who played the oldest son in ojakgyo haha.

it's the actresses i'm not too keen on- i'm not overly familiar with any of them (i think), although a solid supporting cast might make up for it...

From the trailer, the way that Myung Se-bin pulls away - looks like her back will snap!

No comments on Ryu Soo-young's hair; maybe it's the characterization

That sign reminds me of Ojakgyo Brothers - is that what MBC are going for? To be like OB?

Then they should get/kidnap/koochi koo that dog from KBS! That dog was a cutie - sigh.

I'm becoming such a huge fan of Seo In Guk's acting (was already a fan of his voice)...so I'm watching this. He played a totally caring dude as Yunjae...so I wonder if he can do playboy/bad boy! if he can, then he totally became a legit actor!

Watched the first two episodes and this drama is so heart-warming, funny and sincere that I feel in love with it. I question my sanity now that I started watching a bloody 58 episodes drama... that just started running and it's subbed with a snail pace... oh well...
