Trailers and posters for Feast of the Gods
by girlfriday
Sung Yuri‘s new weekend drama Feast of the Gods is getting ready to premiere in a week, so here’s our first look at posters and teasers for the show. It’s a 32-episode drama about chefs who battle it out in the kitchen, and in this case it’s a specialty restaurant that features only the very traditional Korean cuisine served in palaces of yore. Sung Yuri plays a naturally gifted chef and Seo Hyun-jin (The Duo) the hardworking overachiever and her rival to be the new head chef. They also have Lee Sang-woo (Thousand Day Promise‘s Oppa~!) AND Joo Sang-wook (TEN) to fight over as well. Sigh. So much pretty.
The posters seem to be the usual fare, with everyone looking bright and colorful in their uniforms and featuring a taste of the food porn that’ll be a prominent feature of the show. But the teasers are another thing entirely. The first one is upbeat and cute, about a plucky chef, featuring little teaser moments between the love square. So… what we expect…
But then the second one is some crazy makjang birth secret cryfest, and suddenly I have no idea what this drama’s going to be. Is it Gourmet or is it Temptation of Chef? Did I step into the Twilight Zone?
Split personality, right? Argh. I was all ready to look past the genius-perfect-taste bit for Sung Yuri’s character and just buy into it, assuming Lee Sang-woo and Joo Sang-wook would cover over a multitude of sins. But I may have been blindsided. This is what happens when you let yourself get distracted by pretty things.
Well Feast of the Gods premieres next Saturday, February 4 on MBC. So I guess there’s only one way to find out.

The dose makes the poison as they say.
You can take my part, i assure you. Unless it's really well written and original. It was bearable in Can You Hear My Heart for example. But a lot of us developed mental and emotional problems after seeing A Thousand Kisses recently. And i still cry tears of blood because of the second half of M2F. We are not recovered yet from that carnage. Be merciful with us and enjoy your ride. :)

*cringes at the mention of A Thousand Kisses* Man, ATK started out being a drama I don't mind checking into every couple of weeks to see what's the latest developments in it. It was an easy watch for me because I wasn't committed to it. I'd skip a couple of episodes and jump ahead to see what's been going on and MAN!!! It's a reminder of why I can't stand makjang: over-the-top, family secrets, angst for the sake of angst, stupid people doing stupid things, jealous exes who can't move the hell on, and enough tears to flood the world a second time. Tsk. *facepalm*

And you know what's funny about ATK ? It started so cute with the persistent courtship of puppy Woo Bin on his noona. And the kid Cha Noh is adorable. Another case of split personality i guess : I always get ??? at the end of the episodes with that cheerful music : Now i know it announces the opening of the Hell's Gate for next ep. But if i need to drink a litre of lemon juice to have one bite of ice cream... I say stop.
OK, end of my out of subject protest on this thread. Must be my ulcer that torments me again...

ATK :-(
But I had this thought the other day... maybe they wanted to do it differently but then they got official complaints, so the whole storyline became "let's torment the divorcee because she deserves to suffer". Maybe the last episode will feature a turn-around and JY getting a happy ending, but it will no longer be convincing. At this point, they have messed up WB's character so much that she simply deserves better.
Oh maybe there won't even be a happy ending. I'm not convinced any longer.
Not really watching anymore either - just skimming, or looking at the preview for the next episode.
And I feel sorry for the actors even. They must be hating it at this point too, no?

@ alua : If the script has been modified to please some pervert audience ( did you notice how ALL women are ill treated in that trash ? it's just so disrespectful and disgusting, and there is not even one strong female i can admire to redeem the all thing... It's worst than BDSM. ), then i sincerely hope i will never cross those people in real life, for their own safety. They should be put in a psychiatric institution.
I still hope for an happy ending but even multiple weddings, triplets and deaths of the bastards won't suffice to balance the horror. Thousand kisses ? What a scam !
Poor actors : That's an understatement ! If i could do something to save them out of that nightmare, i would do it. I can't seem to cool myself about this s--t...

You were correct of course - even for makjang, this one was over the top. I vote this as the worst drama of the year, and 2nd worst of the decade (tied with Fashion King).

Maybe they're twins! You know, separated at birth, and one gets the happy story and the other gets the angst-and-tears-and-you-stole-my-life. You know, like the City Hunter/Boys Before Flowers mashup.
It has to be. Because... otherwise it's just Vegetable Feast of the Baking Bachelor Gods.

First trailer : Yeah !!!!! Then uh....
Second trailer : My God, let's get out of here !!
Hunter over flowers : 0--0 ?? Bwahahaha !!! I want that one ! It's just frigging awesome !
At MBC : No, really. Keep the makjang for your ( good ) sageuks, but how can you allow this ? I swear, the 2nd trailer had me like in the painting The Scream by Munch. I was paralysed by a panic attack and completely torn : Should i cover my ears or should i turn down the volume of that monstrosity ?

javabeans' recaps of Gourmet are unforgettable! I even saved them in my hard drive. I love the food montage she had assembled; every episode recap presented a montage of the food featured in the episode.
I hope this drama is more a feast for the eyes and stomach rather than heart-wrenching makjang. I do love food dramas and a bit of melodrama is okay but if the food theme gets lost in the sea of tears, then that is a turn-off.
I will watch out for recaps/reviews here or elsewhere.

What is this bipolar drama? Initially was tempted give it a shot partly because of Lee Sang Woo, and partly because I'm a foodie. That second trailer completely thew me off. The way it was edited, the music... melodrama shtick is so late 1990s/early 2000s and I would've watched it gladly about 5-10 years ago but now I no longer have the patience for them.

I wish Fermentation Family could get some of this love. Is it because these actors are more well known? I haven't a clue; I just know there is already a show out there "about chefs who battle it out in the kitchen, and in this case it’s a specialty restaurant that features only the very traditional Korean cuisine." FF has the food porn, it has a good, twisty storyline with believable characters doing sensible things in an interesting way, plus it has some excellent acting and cinematography. I'm just glad for open thread, where it can get at least a little bit of notice.

I don't find there is a lot of love for Feast of Gods. If you read carefully, a lot of comments are critical or mixed. Buzz is not love. I will do my little prediction here : I think FG will have average / low ratings, like for Fermentation Family.
I must say here i like FF but :
- Not A list actors, that's for sure ( Song Il Gook has a very special face, not for everyone's
taste ). That said, A list cast is not a guarantee of success anymore : Take care of us, Captain despite GHS and JJH and Australian exotic landscapes is a fail in term of ratings.
- Obviously low budget production ( one location, few extras ), and no proper promotion. If i wasn't a junkie searching for her dose of unusual dramas, it would have flown under my radar.
- Pacing of the story is slow, almost meditative. There is no Big Angst, no explosions, no one throwing food or drinks at your face. I like that, but truth is the majority of viewers won't agree with me on that.
Now, i don't mind having multiple shows with food as the main topic. Even if story lines converge at some points. What makes the appeal is the particular approach of the writer, the camera work and the acting.

i agree, i like their pairing and now that i've started watching this, i'm really liking it coz at first i thought it's full of cooking etc. but there are sweet moments with JSW & SY and i luv the team up already! too bad this drama i think is underrated coz of maybe moon and star whatever that title is :) LOL since i hvnt been watching that one but anyway, the synopsis of this drama isn't very enticing to start with, they didn't mention anything about the part of romance or love between two people or triangle maybe later on hence a lot of ppl were not aware of how good this drama is!

This is definitely makjang. I happily watched the first five-ish minutes without any hint of makjang and just these chefs battling it out. Afterwards we see some sabotage during the cooking competition and the saboteur losing despite her best attempts.
That is of course, until we meet our heroine's rival who currently has a mother with liver cancer. This mother jumps off the cruise ship with the heroine who she mistakes as her own daughter.
Heroine seems to be lost to the seas, and the crazed mother decides that heroine's rival is going to be their daughter now. This is not helped by the fact that the little girl picked up some sort of medallion that she gave to her daughter the day she disappeared over the boat.
At first the girl isn't persuaded, but when her new dad (who isn't crazy and knows this isn't actually his daughter) tells her everything in the room is hers, she agrees. Of course, heroine isn't dead. I'm sure she suffers many long years under some abusive adoptive family until she makes it back home. -sigh-
Who decided that replacing daughters was an appropriate plot line???

I really love this drama! There are a lot of comments here arguing this drama's value before it started airing. I hope everyone who commented their prejudiced rants will soon add their backed-up comments soon. :)
I also personally think that the pace is surprisingly right (so far at least) and that the makjang vibes just blends rightly with the colorful and bright characters of this drama. And this is categorized under Melodrama, please people. Sadly, FOTG is underrated i guess. But this is still my favorite out of the sad sad this season :>

Dear Readers,
I hope all of you are enjoying reading this thread! I am happy to know that many of JSW fans are loyal, have been loyal since day 1 and will continue to support JSW...
Our actor JSW is the man to follow! He doesn't pick on his projects for frivolous reason. He knew a character can give rise to controversy since he started acting. In the current situation, it is the internet medium that people misuse to achieve selfish agenda!!!
Only a handful of serious viewers are watching FotG in its entirety because they are after the story! Most DY viewers are after skinship and kissing scenes for all the wrong reasons! Misconduct was glorified heavily in the forum!!! Irrationality pushed them to bash & trash on JH/JSW, on the writer and on the fans who are rooting JSW and FotG!!! This is absolutely a personal attack!!!
In the end, it will bring down the entire FotG ship because of their selfish acts!!! The moment their idol is down, don't expect any assistance from these fans! They will jump ship just like they jump JSW ship when the goings get tough!!!

In Joo ( YW) is kinda of selfish and self centered. She thinks the world revolve around her. Having 22 years of good years is still not enough. She wants everything. That's sucks. JY is so nice always thinking of the other person; like her parents, brother, and friends. What JY said was right. "We are grown up now" She should act like one. Have she forgotten? JY was the one who lost everything like her parents love, childhood experience, and had to work so hard cuz her adopted father is always causing her problems. She should be in her parents arms now.
