Needed: WordPress guru!
Apparently, the insane number of comments were impeding the loading of pages with more than 300-400 comments. I’ve put in a temporary fix with a paged comments plugin. HOWEVER, I see that the numbering starts over with #1 on every page, which is bound to get confusing. (URG.) I’m planning to upgrade the whole durned theme and site when I get the chance, but unfortunately, I suck at WordPress. A couple months ago some generous people offered to help me upgrade my CSS/themes/inserttechspeakhere. I lost contact with some of you, but if that offer’s still valid, I think I need to take you up on it now! Won’t you take me out of my CSS hell?

Oh dear. So sorry about this. I noticed the confusing re-numbering, but didn't want to say anything about it. :-( Hope you find your help. Afraid I'm clueless. Thanks for letting us play on your website. Do you sometimes feel like a longsuffering school-mistress indulgently watching a bunch of crazy kids scream, run around, and make fools of themselves?!

Man, I have been missing open thread for at least the past two weeks. Hope everyone is doing well. I have been running behind on my kdramas for regular tv shows like Chuck and Primeval.
In 5 days I will be leaving Arizona for Seoul, South Korea and I am excited and freaked out at the same time. Nothing is going to stop me from getting on that plane next Thursday and reaching Seoul. The only downside is that it is a 17 hour trip, including a 2 hour layover at LAX.
Have an awesome weekend everyone:)!!!

Happy Friday!!!!!! Dear JB, Thank you for having an OT that allows us your faithful fans the opportunity to share all manners of thought, I hope the tech part will sort out with out any more pain... :0}
I am so swamp with work that is not funny anymore, but considering the economy here in the USA I cannot complaint, a friend of mind said; " I rather die with a full stomach, than die of hunger".
Last Tuesday my daughter gave me a photo copy of her first " Sonogram" this is her second pregnancy, so if all goes find I will be a Grandfather for the second time some time @ June of a baby girl, I am sooooooooooo, Happy I may be bias but Little Girls totally rule, my grandson is the bomb, but I feel that the little girl will Dad's and Grampa's girl, My daughter is kinda bum since she is a total "Tomboy" she hates all things "Girlie", as for me all my closest female friends are Tomboys there is something so endearing about a girl that is not afraid of getting dirty or can sit down and eat like a man and not order just Salad when you go to a restaurant etc.etc.etc. But than again my Girlfriend is so "Girlie" and proper that it hurts, HA,HA,HA,HA! so go figure... WELL happy Friday to you all, PEACE OUT!!!!!!!!

happy friday, everyoneeee.
blah. already friday, and i'm soo tired... i want to go back to sleep. but its 8, and i know myself well enough to know that if i go back to sleep, i wont wake up, and will miss my 10:00 class (i'll also miss breakfast. also, i'm pretty sure that if i really DID oversleep, missing breakfast would prove to be more tragic than missing class. hah.) and i cant sleep after class, because i have to clean and eat lunch. i have friends coming to the dorm to visit meeee (which is exciting, but really, i'm tired, and they will be around for awhile. but its cool, i miss themmmmm

Been watching the Olympics. I love the snowboarding competition. I have 4 years to practice and hopefully make it to the next Olympics (yeah, right!). But hey, I'm hitting the slopes next week, so we'll see. :P
And how come curling isn't aired on primetime? I'm curious to see how that works; I'll just have to watch it online, I guess.

if you browse the soompi k-drama forums, you will likely find the answers you seek. For this particular drama, try:

@Dele - Wow, you're going to Seoul? What are you going to do there? it's my life dream to become an expat (...one day....someday). If you don't mind, I think I'll be stalking you on your blog now.
On a random note, does anyone here know David Choi? He’s a popular youtube performer, he’s actually a pretty big deal in the young asian community? Whelps, he came to the DC area yesterday and I got to see him in person! I’m so glad to report that he’s 10x more adorable in person. I hate it when you see performers in real life and they seem very “out there” and full of themselves. Fortunately, he was very down to earth and I was amazed at how he actually recognized some of his fans from videos/comments they’ve posted to him. And his voice *swoons* Nothing like hearing a deep mellow bass accompanied by acoustic guitar blasted out on speakers in a jazz club setting.

Hello World!
Happy Friday World!
sheesh had the weirdest last two days started rewatching 'Stairway to Heaven' due to dull Aussie cable (olympics included) and it is the most...gah... Melodramatic Much?!
*Spoiler Alert & Incoherent Gibberish*
Jong Su nay Ji Soo, undecisive are we? you choose the ' "Omg Don't" ' path to show the world your noble side and turn down 'The Love of Your Life aka Song Joo' because he's in a groove and had everything going for him including the prospect of your step-sister's hand in marriage to which he harbours ABSOLUTELY no affectionate feelings towards to, just tolerance (is that a feeling?) anywho, the reason why he's the King Ice-box-for-a-heart is because when you 'died' who took his soul with him and hes simply just been existing these past 5years, oh and btw he's convinced you're you, but you don't know you're YOU because the man you've been living with changed your identity upon your regaining conciousness and because he loves you way too too much (in a non-freakishly manner, when you were young'ins you were the only decent person who showed him you had a Brain and Heart and simply because he was freaking neglected and disregarded by his family, this warm gesture, although small, meant Great things to him 'He was a Loner') he simply can't give you up, so life as dandy as we know it, goes on...
Time Passes you get your rich identity back find out that everyone that was a Bitch is just a Bigger Meaner Bitch now, theres bigger fish to fry, He who is the great Song Joo still pursues you, you leave, you're back, you go back with the bastard that lied to for 5years and he just ditches you when you sleep saying that you should resume your old life and claim everything that is rightly yours' including/especially Song Joo but alas Mum isnt having this, eventhough she knew Song Joo and Jong Su had something special even from when they were still riding bikes and not BMW's, she is insistent he marry the step-sister who has built quite a reputation and promises of marriage on both sides have been made, did I mention He's a Chaebol so if he breaks off his engagement business confidence falls, yayaya The Rich get Slightly Less Rich.. so he's torn, or Not, he cuts himself off, but she, seeing him suffer because he's never ever paid entrance into Lotte World before but has to now and then goes on to spend his last 2000won on crap that has a specially significant meaning (to them),and is therefore "so hungry he can eat a Zebra" alas we are fresh out of "Zebras & Antelopes & Hippos" she urges him to go back to his comfort zone and so he does..
melodrama ensues shes conflicted-ish her eyes are caputting shes reallly sick so she decides to leave (Again # officially lost count) he can't live without her obviously, and goes out to find her (Again) shes hiding in the cupboard he goes to leave but "whats this thing thats disturbing my slippers' sole and therefore the very ground i walk on? oh just the cheap thingy-mah-jig that symbolises your deep yet cheap love, "ahh so shes here then...somewhere".. Back track a lil, after she left him (I swear she thought this was her official goodbye to him..pffft) on a whim of somesort she rings his cell from a pay-phone, way to play incognito when no-one answers him back and immediately assumes its you and he's right so you silently weep then drop the phone...
Oh you get there eventually , yay! but the ending *cough* me dont likes... :(
undoubtedly of the Hallyu kind, I admit I couldn't help but snot with the characters still, I mean if it dosen't pull at your heartstrings you seriously have an ice-box for a heart but whats more the back & forthing is just WTF? oh and they seriously Used & Abused the OST, ave Maria and Bo Go Ship Da really make my ears cry....
and to cheer me up 'The Good, The Bad & The Weird'

Good morning everyone! Happy Friday!
My car is out of commission from the last time it snowed. AAA screwed up our subscription so my dad's hashing it out with them, and I'm not allowed to do anything until he gives me the go-ahead. So for now, my car is sitting in my driveway, undriveable, and I'm trying to avoid pestering my friends for rides as much as possible. Thankfully I live within walking distance of campus, but the rest of the town isn't particularly walking-friendly, especially when it's 25 degrees out. Grr.
In other news, I finished watching Creating Destiny last night, FINALLY. I'd started watching it while it was airing, but I didn't have the patience to keep up with it every week for 30 episodes, so I dropped it. Picked it up again a week or so ago, and I'm so glad I did.. It was so cute, apart from the annoying guy who knocked up the lead's sister, abandoned her, and then came back 6 years later wanting to marry her. Well, and apart from the secondary female. I wanted to SHOOT her.
(WARNING: THERE BE SPOILERS AHEAD.)
I did hate the ending, though. It always annoys me whenever writers try to make everyone happy, so they pair up EVERYONE. The secondary leads getting together was a huge wtf for for me--you spend one drunken night together in a hotel where you don't actually DO anything, convince your parents not to make you date each other, and then you go date each other anyway? And three months later you decide you want to get married and are all giddy and excited about it? Yeah, okay, THAT makes sense. (Not.)
Also, THE PAIRING THEY PROMISED ME FROM THE BEGINNING DIDN'T HAPPEN. The male lead's sister was supposed to end up with the her brother's (much younger) best friend!!! He was supposed to marry her and become a father to her darling little girl (instead of a friendly uncle-type), and they were supposed to live happily ever after while the child's biological father reflected on how he lost his chance to be with her and devoted himself to being a good father to his daughter. But NO. THEY DIDN'T DO THAT. They made the woman be all noble or some shiznit and go with her child's father, even though it's OBVIOUS that she really loves the younger man. And then, three months later, SHE'S HAPPY ABOUT IT. Wtf, writers. Wtf.
And then there's the totally unnecessary pregnancy at the end, which apparently means "YAY HAPPY ENDING PLEASE IGNORE ALL OF THE WRITERS' OTHER (UNSUCCESSFUL) ATTEMPTS TO WRAP UP LOOSE ENDS." I'll forgive it, even though it's ridiculously cliche, but that's mostly because everything else annoyed me so much.
Ugh. 30 episodes of sweetness and hilarity (I LOVE the female lead's sister and the doctor. They made me so happy. XD) and only occasional annoyance, followed by 1 episode of how-the-hell-could-the-writers-do-this-to-me.
I'm just going to pretend the ending never happened. Yeah, that sounds good. It'll be like Avatar TLA.

I will be teaching English at a public school for SMOE in Seoul. It was the best way for me to be able to stay in Seoul for at least a year, make some money, and have plenty of time to travel. I'm looking forward to it, and definitely check out my blog, and if you have questions let me know. I know a few who have been an expat for years, and they don't seem to want to come back to the states.
I'm hoping I will love living in Seoul so much that I will stay more than one year, but we shall see:)!

Wow, what a great experience that could be!
Remember though, Seoul is NOT the cheapest place in the world. It isn't anywhere near as bad as Tokyo, but if you want to save some money, you really gotta live like a local.
That means no daily $12 coffee and a biscuit, no weekly $25 soju and anju, and no shopping at aggressive trendy stores.

@ jossy/Kender - TeeHee! I never knew rants could be so much fun until I stumbled upon this site. Often times, your comments/summaries are so much more entertaining then watching the shows themselves! This is what makes javabeans so addictive ^__^
@lb_tmi - Yea! Another DChoi fan!! Seriously, he sounds AMAZING live. A little raspy, very deep and OH.SO.SWOON worthy. *giggles like mad* it was a big treat because most of the youtubers live in the West Coast (sobs) and rarely come out this way. Now if only my #1 fangirl crush (WongFu!) would come too...then my life would be complete. ^__^
@samsooki - I took (dragged..) my guy friend w/me to the concert and he was really surprised to actually like the music. Though when I went up front to get a signature (where the hords of screaming tweeny fans were like, "AAWWW, YOU'RE SO KUuuuTE, WE WUV YOU"")....he refused to come. Something protecting his manliness - ppfft.
@ Dele - that's really neat! Have you always been a teacher or did you drop your current occupation to go? I love teaching&traveling and so it's always been my dream to teach abroad. Sadly, RL obligations dictate that I stay here and work in a job with more stable income. *sighs* But I'm so excited for you. :D You can be sure that I'll be checking out your blog and following along with your adventure!! Do keep us updated (especially if you have some celebrity sightings *winks* )
I think I've discovered the secret to OT. Get in early before the crazy West Coast masses wake up. :p

Thanks for everything you do, JB, truly you are a magnanimous overlord and we all exist to serve you.
The US haul in medals is pretty unbelievable, probably to compensate for the major suckage of the curling teams. And I love how Drago has started the trash talking the Black Panther, yeah, you can do a quad Drago, but you still have zero sportsmanship. But I love the posturing on the medal stands.
@ Kender
Don't watch Creating Destiny, but thoroughly enjoyed your rant. :-P Hope you've gotten it our of your system a bit. I felt soooo much better after my extended AtLAB rant last week.
Now for my rant, and hopefully I won't do this every week, but kinda need some support from y'all.
___________________________________
Chuno - up to episode 14 (MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW - sorry in advance, if you haven't seen it and want to see it, please I beg you not to read now)
.
.
.
.
.
.
So, I've watched tons of rip my guts out and stomp of it dramas. Damo was the most recent to destroy my sanity, and before that, HGD left me a pile of teary drool on the floor.
And classic HK-TW period pieces and wuxia serials both employ the awesome knife me now effect of tormenting our hero until he'd rather be Wlliam Wallace getting quartered, but still he gets no peace.
But I don't think I have ever....ever.....ever.....seen a man get emotionally and mentally tortured as much as Dae-gil in my life of drama watching. I've seen the below elements in various dramas, but never in one drama, all happening to one guy:
1. guy gets girl stolen, check.
2. girl marries another guy thinking guy is dead, check.
3. guy's entire family slaughtered, check.
4. guy inadvertantly kills someone he is related to, check.
5. guy's best friends get butchered, check.
6. guy bamboozled into thinking someone else is responsible, check.
7. guy watches his girl make googly eyes at another guy, check.
8. guy allows girl to marry other guy bc he thinks girl has moved on, check.
9. guy stands outside a room while girl consummates her marriage to the other guy, check (btw, this is by far the WORST thing I have ever seen happen to any hero, any genre).
10. guy turns girl's shoes around while she is inside sleeping with her new husband so that the next morning, she can put them on easier, check. (oh PD man, please give me a sedative now).
And the list goes on......bc we have 10 more episodes to go. I don't think I can survive this intensity.
Chuno continues to reinforce my belief that its a whole new type of saguek, I wouldn't even call it fusion, but really takes a giant step closer to wuxia in execution and story development (imagine if in HGD, Yinok did marry Chang-whe, HGD still want to rebel, they still had feelings for each other, and we had 10 more eps to go in that drama - yeah, all hell would break loose).
Chuno dares to make already messy entangled lives even messier, and impossible to sort out, which is what Chinese wuxia does, but Chuno infuses it with a deeper level of melancholy and melodrama that only k-dramas can do right. I am in a level of tormented bliss that only happens bc you are watching something so compelling and gut wrenching, you know you won't forget this in a long long time.
And I call it here, I want JH to win the Baeksaeng for his performance.

I have been barely awake through my class this morning and am hoping that the open thread will give me a shot of energy before I go on with the rest of my day.
spent the week watching the TW drama, Hi, My Sweetheart, which was MUCH better than I expected. It had helped take the edge off the non-airing of Wish Upon a Star. cried my eyes out and laughed till my cough got worse. My love for Show Luo has been renewed. I fell in love with him ever since I saw that clip of him singing Qiang Si Qiang Si while sitting on the toilet. And I really appreciated the role reversal with the female being the more aggressive character who makes the moves and the male character, being the more passive one. I think some people may have had quibbles with the end and the shallow part of me is a bit disappointed too, but it made sense and I think it is more romantic the way they ended it. I love the Rainie/Show pairing much more than the two Rainie/Mike He pairings.
I also started A Good Day for the Wind to Blow (i hope i got the title right) and am a bit disappointed. The characters were either irritating or boring. The only one I can sort of like is the tomboy photography, Sol Ji. I hope she gets with that second son.

....More Chuno spoilers to ep 14 ahead - BEWARE
...seriously...
...spoilage....
...right about here...
Point 9 was where I started begging the screen - "please Dae Gil, just go off and get blind drunk!! Don't stand there and torture yourself!!"
and then I REALLY started getting upset. 8-(
I'm quite glad there is a gap before ep 15, because my poor heart can't take much more.
I'm a saguek veteran, but I've never watched wuxia. All I can say is that this has left the saguek genre altogether to become some kind of melo never before seen in k-drama. And we've got 10 freaking more episodes!
Thank goodness for Pasta and SMM because I need some relief - Pasta has some of the best flirting ever seen in a k-drama and SMM is going straight for comedy, so it balances out.

Don't know if anyone has been watching PASTA....but it's a pretty fun drama. Another one that started up recently is Obstetrics and Gynecological Doctors....which could be boring to some but so far it's interesting and some good scenes. Really like the lead actress (Jang Seo Hee) and pediactrics doctor (Ko Joo Won).
I have been enjoying the dramas/movies and am impressed by the faces of the men and women of Korean ethnicity. There are many beautiful/handsome faces....and I refer to all ages. I am appreciating your language and your culture and being of mixed asian race and living in the melting pot of the pacific certainly makes me feel like I belong.

@ momosan (Chuno spoilers below)
See, in a Chinese wuxia serial, the hero would in fact go off and get blind drunk and practice his kick-ass wuxia skillz in the rain while crying silent tears that his girl married another guy. Which is why Chuno ups the ante on torturing the hero, by making him actually WATCH what was happening as opposed to imaging it while he was off getting drunk. DG looked like he rather be skinned alive at that moment. I literally felt like I got gut punched.
He would still be the victim of all sorts of horrible circumstances, but we audience members would be hopeful that the OTP could still get together bc the other guy will somehow die in the end (if the other guy is a villian/douche, he'll die a justified death, if the other guy is honorable/best friend to the hero, his death will be glorious and meaningful).
I'm going to call Chuno from now on a wuxia-saguek.

LOL! I'm glad you guys enjoyed my rant. It did help get it out of my system, and now I can move on to other things. :)
@36 asianromance
I'm also watching Hi My Sweetheart, although I'm trying to resist watching it unsubbed because my Chinese isn't very good yet. So for now I'm stuck on episode 11, waiting for the next episode and trying not to think about it every moment.
Show Luo is ADORABLE. I've loved him since Corner With Love, and I'm thoroughly enjoying him in this show. His character can be so ridiculous, but then he can turn around and just KILL me with his eyes. God, the man can emote. (And the real guy is such a sweety! And he can dance, oh my..)

....more spoilers guys
....sorry about this
....close your eyes and hit the down arrow..
Wuxia-saguek it is then. It's certainly gone way beyond saguek and far beyond fusion melo/saguek.
Up until about ep 10 I was "meh - it's pretty, it's too clean, wtf is it with On Nyun being so passive after running off" and now it's got me by the throat. And that's pretty much all Jang Hyuk.
The thing about Chuno is that it has pretty much squashed any hope for the OTP right out of me in a very EotS ending way, and yet I MUST watch. Clearly we've had alot of set up for what better be 10 episodes of hell and glory combined.

Happy friday to all ;)
@JB Really want to thank you for all that you have done for us OT posters. It's so nice to find a santuary for us to rave and rant about everything ( daily lives, kdrama, movies, etc). Since I'm clueless to anything electronics, I can't help you at all. I'm sure one of your loyal posters here are software genuises and would not hesistant to help you :)

Haha...I can't have caffeine so no $12 coffee for me, and since I don't drink and SOJU is gross I won't have to worry about wasting my money on that. I do love shopping so that might be a problem area, but I told myself I would not spend money shopping and instead spend money on trips to Jeju Island, Japan, and other locations:)!
@yenchen
Actually, I was a finance major in college but I have been interested in Asian culture for years and when I started volunteering as a Communications Coach for international students, it made me realize how much I enjoy teaching and how I would love to travel a bit before settling into the "real world," so with the help of a good friend I started looking around and came across SMOE, and jumped at the opportunity. I got myself TEFL certified, and am looking into pursuing a Masters of Education with a focus in Counseling when I come back to the states if I don't got to Law School...lol...total career change but teaching/coaching students is very fulfilling to me, and this way I get to live abroad for a bit and soak in another culture:)!
I will definitely keep my OTF chingus informed of my adventures:)!

WONGFU!!! i <3 them... i really do. i have the first Spencer and Toon Spencer as well. I really wanted Spencer Biggie but could not shell out the $35 or whatever it was to have another Spencer sit in my car. Been an avid follower of WongFu since the "Yellow Fever" days. They've come a long way haven't they?? Have you watched their recent series "Technology ruins romance"? HILARIOUS. i love the telenovela parody. Classic. The guys all seem super nice too. About a year or so ago they were in the San Gabriel Valley doing a meet and greet at a TapEx - the lines were ridic. My friend and I didn't want to wait in line, so we went in as regular customers and just hung out like creepsters watching them haha! But they were so nice to all their fans - taking time to sign things, take pics and chat. Later on, they made an appearance at the LA Epik High concert as well since Far East Movement opened for EH and WongFu are big supporters of FM. Yay! Glad to have found another WongFu fan here :)

I'm so jealous that you're moving to Seoul!! After my short 4 day trip there, i fell in love. I want to go back sooo badly!! Samsooki is right - Seoul isn't the cheapest place to live, but it also is a helluva lot cheaper than Tokyo! If your weakness is shopping (as mine is), there's a ton of places to get cheap cute clothes and accessories. And you can always bargain :) Eat a lot - food is so so so yummy and not too expensive if you go to local spots. Have fun and be safe!!

I'm so glad I'm not the only one feeling the JR love right now. He's SO cute and is totally taking over my 8 year long crush on Apolo. NBC was interview his parents this morning and they just came across as such nice, normal people who are insanely proud of their son. Love love love!

I was really surprised by Show's acting. I had dismissed him as just-an-idol and a funny-guy, but you're right, he can really emote. Half the time I was bawling is because of him. So then I go back to the diarrhea scene and the scream in ep 9 and laugh myself silly.
even though, i'm not watching Chuno- it's awesome reading all the comments abt it here, especially ockoala's checklist! Poor Dae-Gil. I wonder how the writers come up with so many sad scenarios.
