remember back in 2014 when we heard good doctor was going to get an american remake but then it was kind of never spoken of again? WELL I CAME ACROSS SOMETHING INTERESTING TODAY.
p.s. this took me soo many times to post, haha. i’m actually kind of afraid that i’m going to refresh and see that it actually went through half a dozen times;;;;;
I kind of felt that way, too, actually. I only watched like 2 episodes of Good Doctor before remembering that I’m not big on medical dramas, but Joo-won was so believable in that role! He just had a lot of, idk, small movements and affectations that reminded me of the autistic children I’ve worked with. I think in my head I’m comparing Freddie Highmore’s acting to Joo-won’s, which I know isn’t fair because they’re so different.. but I can’t help but feel like if the trailer wasn’t intercut with the other doctors reminding us every ten seconds that the character is autistic, I might not notice that he was supposed to be autistic.
Oh wow! Definitely interesting. Freddie Highmore actually looks like he’s aged! I don’t really like the idea of American remakes of (my ~precious~) Korean dramas, so I’m not jumping at this, but it is very interesting and cool that K-dramas have garnered so much attention, interest and popularity enough for this to happen in the first place.
I definitely recognize similarities between this trailer and the K-drama version. I thought Freddie Highmore was still pretty weak as an actor when I saw the majority of Bates Motel S1, so that’s also another reason why I’m not jumping at this. That, and I rarely check out new American TV shows nowadays.
I’m with you, lol; I don’t get too excited about American remakes of anything (America should really just not remake anything. It pretty much never turns out well!) but I thought it was kind of cool that one of the dramas that was up for a US remake actually made it this far into the process of becoming a show 🙂
I read an article about it on Variety &it doesn’t seem like this is a full series yet—ABC has ordered for a pilot to be made but I don’t think a full season has been greenlit yet. It’s still pretty cool, though 🙂

I haven’t seen good doctor but based on stills and few scenes I could believe Joo Won had autism.
But here, it doesn’t feel so?
