Chuno writer apologizes to Lee Da-hae

Chun Sung-il, the scriptwriter for action-thriller drama Chuno, has expressed his apologies in a recent interview toward one of the drama’s stars, Lee Da-hae.

Nearly as loud as the enthusiasm for the drama has been the dissatisfaction with one of its lead characters, Un-nyun (also Hye-won), played by Lee. Some of the criticisms have been downright silly (she looks too pretty!), but others are rooted in more reasonable logic, such as the weakness of her character and her role as constant damsel in distress. Lee Da-hae has admitted that she agrees with criticism calling her character a nuisance, in response to the new nickname that viewers have used up to describe her: Minpae Un-nyun, which roughly translates to “Public Menace Un-nyun.”

Writer Chun said, “Seeing all this criticism about Un-nyun as a character who is a public menace, I felt extremely apologetic toward Lee Da-hae. However, if you watch the drama through the end, you will be able to understand Un-nyun.” Among the complaints are that she, unlike the male characters who take charge of their fates, is a reckless, passive character. It has led viewers to comment that the writer “doesn’t have any interest in female characters” and that “Un-nyun just puts everyone around her in danger.”

Chun added, “I think Un-nyun stands out even more because of recent historical dramas like Queen Seon-deok and Iron Empress where the female leads drive their own fates. But Un-nyun will continue to change, because she is a character who keeps developing until the end.”

“I wanted to draw her character as someone who starts out as an ordinary woman and finds herself as she goes through turbulent times. Un-nyun is inherently passionate, but doesn’t know how to express that. She had the courage to run away from an unwanted marriage, but afterward she doesn’t know what to do. But that’s a natural thing. There was nothing women could do in the Joseon era. Aside from cooking and bearing children, there was nothing they could do. Un-nyun is searching for that right now.”

The other women characters, Seol-hwa and Cho-bok, are in the same boat as Un-nyun.

“Seol-hwa was once a member of a traveling actors’ troupe, but after running away she travels with Dae-gil’s group. If Dae-gil tosses her out, she has nowhere to go. Cho-bok entered an underground organization of slaves, but there’s no place for her there. Un-nyun isn’t the only one causing harm to others. However, Un-nyun overcomes those circumstances and changes.”

Chun also expressed disappointment that the antipathy toward Un-nyun was aggravated by the complaints about Lee’s makeup, excessive exposure, and screen blurring, which hadn’t been his intention.

“It must be frustrating to watch Un-nyun before her change, because she’s not particularly special and doesn’t do anything particularly important, but if you keep watching, things will change.”

I think the problem is a little more complex than Chun explains — and I will agree that he seems to be less interested in making women compelling, rounded characters. The entire drama seems to revolve around the glorification of male beauty, but that just makes the imbalance more stark because the women (as characters, not actors) feel like afterthoughts.

However, on top of all that, Lee Da-hae has been something of an easy target in recent years. I think it’s a combination of some unfortunate career moves and a certain je ne sais quoi that tends to attract negative response. Some stars just make particular connections to the public, which are not necessarily always logical — which is why you’ll have some actors with virtually no anti-fans while the anti’s for another may even outnumber his/her own fanbase.

I hope the character changes come soon; I don’t really buy Chun’s excuses, because you can certainly make flawed characters who are still interesting, without making them useless. (Case in point: most of the men in Chuno!) Also, women may not have had a lot of options historically, but honestly, that’s going to be your defense for giving your women nothing to do? Plenty of sageuks have managed ways to make women interesting, and not just queens and empresses.

i also found the character of un-nyun frustrating to watch, for a variety of reasons, some of which have already been listed here. i do hope to see some growth, because otherwise she just comes off as really bland and rather annoying.

Who wants to watch unattractive characters anyway? LDH is a beautiful and wonderful actress. Her character's flaw is because she's too primped? Hahaha. Aren't viewers just so fickle? Most people I know are naturally drawn to good-looking people so I don't understand the criticisms she's getting. The men in my family love watching the show because LDH gives them something to dream about, and my sisters and I can't stop drooling over Oh Ji Ho's good looks. Yes, we're even cougars!!! Sorry, but the main lead's protruding gums are really an eye sore. His character may be interesting, but I want that Prince Charming to still exist, which Tae Ha's character provides.

I swear sometimes viewers are harsher on good-looking actors than the mediocre ones. Case in point: Shining Inheritance. That male lead was no looker, nor was he a sensational actor, but boy did the ratings soar. Eeeks! Besides, LDH is doing her part which is to act the role the writer has created for her. I wish the viewers would knock it off with attacking her personally. If you don't like it, then there are slews of other dramas to fill your time. But please, let the writer do his job--we are only at Ep. 12!

I think it fair to say Lee Da-hae not the greatest actor around but that not to say she is bad. She certainly one of the prettiest around so it all evens out. yes I know that is shallow but we live in the real world here where looks DO matter.
I have only the reviews to base anything on, but and I think I mentioned this in another episode review, has anyone thought that she [her character ] is suppose to be that pretty that well, earthly grime simple doesn't touch her . Sounds corny but we are talking Korean drama here and they never been scared of being that!. So even if she did, as some she should have, tried to put some input in her dress and make-up, if the above is the idea they trying to put across, then it would not be well received. Just an idea about it.

Well, I like her character in CHUNO, and also the rest of the team.

Actually, she received good comments from netizen on EP 12, the marriage proposal, was well done by her.People said they can see her character developement there and they said UN/HW is not weak anymore.

Miscasting, how abt giving it to other actresses to play that boring character..he he.. can't imagine that, at least LDH gives some vibe to it, her chemistrt with OJH and JH -just amazing.

UN's character is one thing. and LDH herself is another thing. although the character is poorly written, can't she put some efforts to live as UN/HW? show some emotion when being scared, or chased by enemies. all she did was trying to look pretty.

Bah! Stupid onion!

I actually *liked* Lee Da Hae in My Girl, as silly as the series was, she was quite funny and endearing, I didn't like her in Green Rose however and had to stop watching the series, ditto with Robber. Although Jang-Hyuk was yummo in that, but even yummo couldn't coerce me into watching the entire series.
And now I'm having trouble getting into Chuno too, not good LDH. I want to like you, I really do.

The whole thing about her being 'too pretty' is silly in many respects, have people forgotten there are MANY pretty Korean actresses? She certainly isn't the prettiEST.

I always LOVE her, through her I beginning to know a lot of kdrama world, and I have seen a lot of them, but she is still my NO 1 actress, very special indeed, and NOBODY force me to like her or I'm trying to like her, it just come naturally.

and Yeah, love her in CHUNO as well, but my favourite is FLOWER FAIRIES/HEAVEN FATE.

I have nothing against LDH. Against UN on the other hand? I have many issues, but I'm still watching and enjoying Chuno very much. I really hope UN gets some major character development. I don't buy the writer's excuses though.

don’t really buy Chun’s excuses, because you can certainly make flawed characters who are still interesting, without making them useless.

I agree with this. And it's not only the boys who are interesting even if they're flawed. As someone else above, I, too, don't think Seol-hwa and UN are on the same boat. True, both are flawed, and true, both didn't get much of a character development (UN more so than SH), but while I find myself watching UN just because I'd like to know who she ends up with and that's it, I find myself wanting to know more about SH and not only if she gets her happily ever after: I want to know her whole backstory, I want to see her grow up, I definitely want to see her happy no matter who she ends up with. In short, I care about SH, the character, whereas I just don't about UN, not as a character per se. I only care for UN as a -and pardon this bad expression, but I can't find another one- "means" for the boys' (TH, DG, whoever) happiness and that is, imho, a writing problem.

The writer can apologize all he wants and say things like "wait and see", and yeah, I agree, there IS still room for development, but he has to get a move on with it or else there's no way viewers will change their minds about UN. Me? I can, but I think the writer is playing on thin ice and risking too much in delaying UN's development. The more the drama progresses, the fonder I get of some characters and less interested in others and I don't think I'm the only one feeling like this.

The thing with LDH is that most people have a perception that she's a great actress. They're always praise her acting highly, and even dubbed her as the next best thing in K entertainment/acting industry. So I find it's understandable that many of them (who's call themself lovers of great acting) are very disappointed when she can't deliver in Chuno. I'm not a fans of her, but I find that she's a good actress (not great), she still has long way to go to be called that. I agree that she has talent but I think she should hone her craft more (Does she have an acting coach/teacher or something?). The most important thing is she shouldn't be affraid to be looked ugly/unpretty if the role need it. So what's matter is does she want to or not....
I pity her for being the object of criticism, I think she doesn't deserve that. But I find Chuno writter apologizing is so misplace ??
Btw I'm not Korean so I'm still don't get it why are the viewers describe her as Minpae Un-nyun (Public Menace Un-nyun) ? She's not the menace in this drama isn't she ?

It's disappointing but wth people, Seolhwa's been travelling with three men and her lipstick isn't even smudged. Nor is anyone complaining about the slave girl who likes Upbok and how she's the only one for miles around with mud permanently smudged on her face. Lee Da Hae has greater expectations piled upon her as well as more screentime, so it's logical that she'll get more criticism but what IS this trollop about her vanity? You think they do their own makeup and costume? Will getting rid of her makeup make her act any better? She's acting out the character and damn, the character is irritating especially in the face of competent, noble Taeha, but imo, it just goes to show that the production values may be high, a lot of the acting brilliant, the scenery picturesque, etc etc, but Chuno also has flaws in the way of writing, acting and continuity, and it's stupid to pile it all on Lee Da Hae and say she's bringing down the quality of she show. She's made some bad role choices in the last few years and I hope she digs herself out of this hole, because she's fun and sharp and I like her.

i think i have to agree with #61Dandy. the main flaw LDH has in this drama is that, everyone has a perception that she's the best actress Kdrama-Industry could get. she was great in sweet18, flower fairy, mygirl, etc.. but chuno might be the first drama that proves her not so excellent in acting.

based from what i read in many blogs and news, many people are disappointed in her acting in chuno. she couldnt bring the character well. i didnt really watched chuno, but i have tried to watch some episodes to see if the critics are true....and i just couldnt say they were baseless.

KBS world already showed 4 eps of CHUNO and I can say I love it so much, and even my family who are never into kdrama also like it.

I don't undestand the bashing on LDH acting, cos so far I saw she was doing fine with her character especially on the first 2 episodes-she was so expressive during the Chinese soldier dragging her away and also on her wedding scene.

and the guys in my family, first thing they said, 'who is that very beautiful actress' and proudly I said LEE DA HAE.

Meh! I think people shouldn't compare Da-hae's acting with other "great" actress out there. She still has ways to go. I still don't find her acting horrible at all, but back to the JB's article which relates to why the writer had to "apologize" to Da-hae brings in the point. Why apologize unless he saw such overcry from Korean netizens about this? Have some integrity in your work, don't give more ammunitions to her antis which was exactly what they want after this decleration of "I'm sorry Da-hae, but please people, believe in my writing because at the end you will see her evolve", What? Huh? then why apologize? let your writing do the talking.

i love Seol Hwa she is such a sprite! But Un-nyun? GO AWAY. Yeah, I dont like Oh Ji-Ho either, so its fine that they are together. As long as they dont get too much screen time. i enjoy my seolhwa-daegil moments. hee hee.

Chuno , likely this drama is stressed on actors to show off their talents and their looks and honestly male casts doing very well ,
they came from different background s, dreaming of different things , some big , some small , i would like to know by the end what they could achieve .
Lead actresses , SH character is doing well but UN character is having several
flaws as above . All characters are trying to portray Chosen people living at that time,
chaotic time , Manchu invasions , UN as former slave and later one , sister of the
good merchant , is supposed to be smart , to pose some surviving skills . Some
mentioned UN when she disguised as a man , very poor way , ridiculous way and i
have to agree her poor acting when she was chasing by some bad guys and ., another
scene in epi 9-10 all she did just screaming while STH fighting ., the rest of 10 epi
she just followed STH in passive way as STH 'shadow, constantly needed his protection .Somehow in epi at the temple and at the cave i can see beautiful
chemistry between them touching my heart , especially at the cave very romantic .
But from epi 11-12 i see some changes in UN character , she becomes more active , using her intelligence to help STH to achieve the big dream .
I still have faith in LDH .

I feel sorry for Lee, but her character is a bit boring and more than annoying. I just started watching Chuno, but for the most part, I'm just thinking, why is she here? At least the other female leads like Seol-hwa and Cho-bok are at least entertaining. I feel a little depressed since I'm only 4 episodes in and it doesn't seem to get any better for Lee. Praying that they fix this up quickly!

contrary to most of hte opinions here
i actually have a bigger problem with SEOLHWA than with unnyun/hyewon
people complain about LDH's character being a "damsel in distress" but what about seolhwa? she cost LDG money and horses, not once, but multiple times, never once has she sacrificed herself for the slave hunters. she cant even cook, for christsake, (or shut up for more than five minutes)
even if unnyun/hyewon doesnt really have that many capabilities, at least shes not selfish and a spoiled brat, and she gives her male companions emotional support, and makes them feel strong and responsible, by wanting to protect her
have yo unoticed that taeha almost seems to gain character strength by having to take care of unnyun, rather than her being a hindrance
i dont think she was miscast at all; she has great chemistry with both all the male leads, not only with taeha nad daegil but also with danny ahn (baekgo)
not saying that she doesnt have any areas where she can improve; she does. but then again, so do some of the other actors, like oh jiho (who i love and is the main reason im watching this) also has room to improve.

I totally agree with you that after My girl she chooses bad projects. I don't know but I cannot say shes a good actress i don't see any Wow in her acting skills...
I think the problem is she is not developing as an actress bec. shes too scared to made mistakes maybe bec. of the image she portray a weakling popular princess celeb........

FOR HER CHARacter really it bores me to death if it not for the hot 2 guys I will not watch the show the guys really acting, looks are amazing..LDH I wish get some acting workshop really...shes like this in East of Eden I call her a frozen princess not much sincere reaction blant I should say in her acting...

I think her best is in My girl bec. shes not a star yet then now shes way too concious of everything thats why her acting sucks!

If you are an actor/actress you forget you are a Superstar when you are in character so you will get the essence of that role..concious actors sucks big time whne they are acting and that LDh I think is doing shes very concious......

And seriously I think her charcter will not have a serious development through out this I forsee that she is just a girl beside the king nothing to do but too be pretty......

im not watching this, and with all this criticism i dont think i want to...

i used to be a huge LDH fan, watching everything see did [yes even "hello miss"]
but after she dropped out half way in "east of eden", i grew so disappointed in her

her lame excuse for leaving then seems to resonate here, i think she needs to rebuild the trust and love in her fanbase,

who knows maybe she doesnt like the character in chuno either, but she's not dropping out bc its a shorter drama.....

Once upon a time there was an artist named Michelangelo, and he was commissioned by Pope Julius II to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.

"I am awestruck by your Pieta, Michelangelo, and your David. Grace our ceiling with a work of equal beauty and grandeur, and holiness."

So Michelangelo went to work, laboring day and night in the most awkward positions to create his conception of Creation and the Fall of Man. As the work grew and became recognizable, the good citizens of Rome would come and view his progress. Eventually, they began to offer criticisms of those parts of Michelangelo's work they didn't like, and advice on how to improve it.

"Your characters are far too muscular, Michelangelo, especially the women."
"Adam looks more powerful than God! Show some humility!"
"The men and women in the Great Flood scene are far too clean. They should be caked with mud and have cuts and bruises. Dirty them up."
"Everything is too unremittingly serious! Put in a little comic relief for the common man to enjoy."

The Pope, too, added his own suggestions.

Michelangelo tried to resist their suggestions, but as they grew in numbers and intensity, the Pope ordered him to make the changes.

"After all, Michelangelo, this isn't your ceiling, it is the church's ceiling, and the peoples'."

So Michelangelo normalized the musculature of his characters. He made Adam smaller and timid looking in the presence of his Maker. He dirtied up the refugees of the Flood. He added a scene of dogs sitting around a table playing poker and smoking cigars, for comic relief.

And when he finished, he looked upon the result and wept bitterly at his ruined work of art. Unable to restrain his anger, he addressed Pope Julius:

"Your Holiness, why did you commission *me* to create an artwork for the Sistine Chapel when you really wanted a hodge-podge created by all the citizens of the Papal States?"

"What does it matter to you, Michelangelo?," asked the Pope. "You are the one being paid for it. You should not complain about the free help proffered to you by the citizens out of the goodness of their hearts."

"Whether it is from the goodness of their hearts or not, it isn't my creation," responded Michelangelo. "And I won't sign my name to it."

And with that, Michelangelo retired from the world and never accepted another commission to paint or sculpt a work of art.

*******************************************************************************

In reality, Michelangelo would have laughed in the face of anyone who suggested he change his painting to suit their partucular whims---and so should the writer of Chuno. Artistic integrity is the soul of any work of art. Works of art are not created by committee.

While we, as viewers of K-dramas, may not like some things about any particular drama, it is simply insane to think that the writer of a drama should change his creation because of our whims. If we want a drama in which all the slaves are dirty and ragged and have super survival skills---well, take up a pen and write one. But do not presume to tell the writer of Chuno what he ought or ought not to do in *his* drama.

Come on everyone, we are watching this because of 2 very hot lead male actors (especially OJH)! The lead female character is boring, boring, boring. Her character is dull and the actress couldn't act her way out of a paper sack. She was boring in East of Eden too. If anything, the writer need not apologize,it's the casting people that should apologize for choosing her! In all fairness, this drama is focusing on the male leads and the women are secondary figures,so perhaps it didn't matter what actress was picked for the part. However, a good actor can make the best of a part no matter how badly it's written.

@firewife: I found that the character that used to tagging along with the three slave hunters at first annoyed me too. Me like her without them better. I hope they are just moved on without her. But at least she portrayed her annoying/immature character well. THAT i can watch. She put a depth and soul on her character.

And yes. I'm enjoying and addicted to this series and just fast forward and try to bear with the acting I can't indulge in despite how much I want to love it.

And to others, I don't think all of you read the comments objectively, SH of course was pretty and many other too since this is fusion seaguk. but LDH potrayed is ALL THE WAY unbelievable. I think I have said enough but enjoyed and defend what you want. Please don't say they just do their job. Hire as job actres/ess. Of course there are lots of elements that contributed here. Directing. writing etc. But a good and smart actor always do her/his homework, added the spices (discuss/add to the director) and manage to stand out despite whatever bad writing/directing was created for them.

And I just LOLed and LDH tooo protective/defensive fans that say why just so called those who criticized Dahee watched HER dramas. 6 by that means. That means and PROVED we are not the hater/antis. They DON'T watched but criticized. We watched since we thought she has potential and can act well so we watch for the sake of acting. Duh!

People again who said, beauty bla...bla....bla.....didn't read JB articles and comments well. Oh well, each one on their own. Can't take critism? Pity all of you. I can criticize those actor/ress that I love too.

Having said that the main reason will be what 64 and 61 has said. For 41: Well said. Very well said.

For me as I said in others post, I can bear it so I watched and (still enjoyed despite the obvious flaws-fastforward) and for those who can't bear just don't watched and shrugged Chuno of your shoulder.

Nuff said and my apology for those who bothered by my comments. I hope that if we can't take critism don't read the articles/posts and involved our idol and loved ones.

76 @chuck
Thank you.
I hope that the writers, directors, producers will not make drastic changes to Chuno.
I'm really enjoying it as it is. When I notice something odd... that is only my opinion. I have a drama background but I'm no expert or have any authority to criticize writers, directors, actors etc on how a drama is produced. I respect the talents of Chuno & I can appreciate their huge effort . They have pride in their work so they create an entertainment that viewers can appreciate & enjoy. They can not please everyone. Everyone has different views, tastes, likes & dislikes based on experience, education, intelligence that shape ones temperament & personality that influence judgment.

I'm happy with the way LDH is portraying UN/HW. I trust that's the the way the writer & director wants her to perform for a purpose. I know that she will change as she witness & experience situations that will bring out her dormant passion for life.

Had UN/HW not meet Th he might have died had HW not help him heal his deep wound. HW saved his life. TH wants to protect her. So she is not as useless as some complain. Would they get married? Is the sword he always leave behind with her also a sign she would take up swordsmanship later? Maybe not
Whatever, I will continue to watch & enjoy Chuno. After ep 12 I'm surprise that the haters are still watching. Feedback is good but devious criticism is a kill joy.

Writer Chun, Director Kwak keep up the good work. LDH/HW Fighting! LDH should not pay attention to some ridiculous criticism of her. There are obvious made up stories to make her look bad. Its a crime! I thought S Korea block Trolls netizens.

What's funny is, the comments that are criticizing Da-hae have this premise that she's actually a "great" or a class-A actress, for goodness sake people, she's not! she's just a plain or just an above average actress period. You are putting her on a pedestal not worthy of this type of critcism, she's not worth this much of back and forth. I really just had to laugh reading some of these comments!

She was really good in Lotus Flower Fairy which got her the Baeksang for a new comer, but other than that she's just a plain actress. My Girl was just plain popular, mainly due to studs Lee Dong-wook and Jun-ki. In Green Rose, it was Ko-soo who shined by himself. In Hello Miss! she was flat. In Robbers both Jang-hyeok and her were flat, arguably the writer's fault, but I digress. In East of Eden, it was just mad followers of Song Seung-heon's fan base that carried that drama's ratings period, Da-hae's was just non-existent, I was happy that she bailed on that drama for all its worth, she was a nuisance in there.

Now, in Chuno I believe she can still shine, so I'll go out on the limb here and force myself to believe in what writer Chun expressed in his "I'm sorry Da-hae, please people continue to watch until the end for her evolution" article.

Well, she is is quite well known among my uni colleage bcos we watched MY GIRL on line, and most of the guys going gaga over her..and I like her too, so I found quite amusing people hate her bcos of her acting..

Is she stealing someone boyfriend here?or is she having a dirty lifestyle outside of the studio drama?

Cheer up to some who I found so upset there, lots of beautiful thing outside beside LDH, yeah. If you wanna fun watch Lat of Summer Wine drama (British evergreen drama), you found lots of beautiful characters there. PIECE

Is this some kind of a new marketing/promotion tactic? Well if it is, then it's definitely working. Since the first time Chuno got criticized by netizens well either towards for only one person that is the female lead herself Lee Da Hae. I think I'm going to more and more intrigued and curious about the upcoming episodes. Whether is gonna be spectacular or might be disappointing, it keeps on pulling me to this drama more.
Seriously I don't really care whether LDH's looking way to pristine and such, well if I don't like her looks in here might as well skip it to the good parts of the stories (or in my case they're the male characters esp Daegil) and overall I think as long as the storyline is plausible and acceptable for my taste, I will be still continue watching this drama. Because this drama has so many good materials and elements that are too good to be left out. ;)

I watched Chuno with a doubt when i first watched it online. (Thanks to the subbers)
I havent been watching Korean drama for quite sometime so i casually log in to streaming websites like mysoju, dramabang and dramaonly -- and i found out Chuno.

If anyone here has been watching Family Outing, you will know Jang Hyuk was a family guest in FO. So I watched Chuno to somehow support and find out how Jang Hyuk fare in his latest drama. Theres Lee Da Hae -- my fav actress!! and somehow I COME ACROSS A VERY INTERESTING CHARACTER WHICH CAUGHT MY ATTENTION -- OH JI HO.

I do not know who Oh Ji Ho at all until i watched Chuno. I am attracted to his character as Song Tae Ha. Much more I am so excited when the main leads are JangHuk, DH and Ji Ho. Personally, I feel that these three are one of the most good -looking & matching threesome for a historical drama.

There have been comments that Chuno's director focused more on men masculinity which is true as u can see. In Chuno even the male slaves and some peasants are too physically attractive and expose to much muscles (lols).

As for the ladies, the gisaengs are not bad either. SW and ChuBok and pretty too.
I applaud the director who brings out the best of Oh Ji Ho who looked so attractive with torn and tattered clothes. The producer chose the BEST MAN for the character Song Tae Ha, he chose the BEST MAN for Lee Dae GIl, the best lady for HyeWon and the best supporting casts.
Oh Ji Jo's dialogues in Chuno has deep underlying meanings. For instance the after scene when he treated HW's wound; he said,

"Men of arms never leave their swords behind,if they do so b4 departing, it is to tell someone they will return."

At this scene, i already knew the character Song Tae Ha is slowly falling in love with HW & will protect her at all cost.

Until today after i watched episode 12, I have no complaints about Chuno.
I enjoy it so much until recently i choose to abandon swimming & cycling at the beach and would rather stay indoors to watch updated episodes of Chuno in KBS2.

As for HyeWon character, i can gradually see that her role as a woman changed after she met Song Tae Ha. HyeWon is more mature and Tae Ha shared his point of principles in life during their journey together which made their relationship more interesting. If u follow up their relationship progress, u can feel that their relationship was embedded into respect between a man and a woman. I am so touched at looking the amount of respect which Tae ha showered to HyeWon. He didnt shout at her, he didnt violated her but he protected her all the time.Even under stressful situations, he understands her.

Did you see the scene on top of the mountain where he walked the wrong direction wif HyeWon? He knew that he was wrong and tried to explain the situation in a Confucius way but HW interrupted and said to him not to make it as an excuse. TaeHa apologised after that which made HW smiled and in return, she also apologizes to him for passing the remark to him. (How sweet)

I am really hoping to see HyeWon and Song Tae Ha ended up together.
After so much of going through hardships together, they are just meant to be together.

I am relieved for now that the crazy assasin Hwang Chul Woong is dead, the Ming assassin is dead and the crown prince is in safe hands under Song Tae Ha's protection.

I believe everyone is anticipating Lee Daegil reunion with HW.
Under what kind of circumstances will they meet?
What will happen to the crown prince?
How will Song Tae Ha react when Lee Daegil meets HW?

Dear Korea and all Chuno fans all around the world, i am very excited every Wed and Thurs to watch what will happen next in KBS2.

PS: The OST is good too :)

First degree of jealousy. LOL.

What a scheme and shame of you! So whenever one's criticized an actor/ress she is jealous. Get real!! So javabeans has described about " schadenfreude". Those who criticized can be petty, overly critical, nitpicking whatsoever but not all of them because of jealousy. What a shallow and childish thinking!

Huh.

Agree with Aigoo Oreo , in epi 12 Hye Won married to STH , how romantic the way he explained to her his feeling , his commitment to her so much chemistry between them and Hye Won now is more active , as a wife of the General she will support to STH to the end , her chapter with DG is over . STH will support the second son of King Injo , very good prince , together with STH protecting the former crown prince when they were in Manchu .
The son of former crown prince is too small , he can not run the country in chaotic
time like this . STH is the rightous character , he is protecting his people always trying
to avoid hurting innocent people . Scholars there are so narrow-minded , mean .
Hopefully this drama will end up in meaningful , more realistic way as Jumong ,
damo , Yi San , Immortal Admiral YI Soon Shin not soap way as QSD , Empress Chun chu .
I'm really tired dramas relating characters from orphanages , having psychotic
parents , lingering suffering from first love , tragic car accident , all kind of cancer , bad
mother in law .....,.my opinions .

I think that those directors are playing with the audiences especially with the females audience and for the males audience they used female actresses as decoys. Indeed, there are unecessary exposures of LDH in this drama for example,: the scene when ahe is changing. Does that really necessary to show her bare shoulders there? Do we need to see her changing? in this saguek drama that scene is irrelevant.. But I think all the actions in the drama are already good enough to attract males audience. Don;t have to bare all the ladies to get the drama going. Apologies are necessary ti LDH and the audiences too.

Forget her perfect skin, polished nails and ridiculously organised hair but what in the world happened to character development?! She maintained her annoying personality traits, and even by the end she ran from Dae Gil, without giving him the sincere apology he deserved and er...thanks would have been nice, don't you think? He died in the process of helping you and your so-called "spouse", lady! Don't keep your damn thoughts, voice them! *Explodes* I needed to exhaust my frustration. Seriously though, what's with her flawless glowing skin and gorgeous hair? She should have roughed up a little for the slave scenes and dolled up for the noble scenes, so we can see the physical transformation. And then, perhaps, she could have been well-rounded in terms of personality in the latter episodes. Her character, like the nude scenes, were a big blur in the whole drama. I don't agree with Chun when he said Seol-Hwa and Un-nyun are on the same boat. Seol-Hwa really stood out. She and the slave hunters brought the hype to the drama. The rest were nothing more than fabricated characters. Including Tae Ha, who was all about "changing the world" for one woman, but never did so when his wife and child were alive. In the end, all he amounted to was a big fat 0. Dae Gil finished off his nemesis, saved Un-nyun and the little prince, bought land for his best friends and rescued Seol-Hwa. He changed the world for the people he was affiliated with and he died without glory. At least, he spent his last minutes with the woman who loved him for Dae Gil and not "Young Master".

@Sere: Agree, entirely.
