Lee Chung-ah, Chun Min-hee join Battle of Yeonpyeong
by awcoconuts
While we already knew Kim Mu-yeol, Jin Gu, and Lee Hyun-woo had scored parts in the Battle of Yeonpyeong, the female cast members have finally been revealed: Lee Chung-ah (Wonderful Mama, Flower Boy Ramyun Shop) will play the lone female naval officer, while relative newcomer Chun Min-hee will portray the wife of Jin Gu’s character.
Battle of Yeonpyeong will cover the actual 2002 skirmish-at-sea between North and South Koreas about the maritime boundary line separating the two, which ended in tragic losses by both countries. The movie will delve into the lives of the naval officers and those who knew and loved them, and is already being promoted as a touching human drama — gah, yet another film I expect to turn on the waterworks.
I’m excited about Lee Chung-ah getting cast in what sounds like a plum role, and the actress had this to say about it: “I’m thrilled to participate in a movie that holds such meaning. I was a high school student in 2002, and I didn’t know much about the Battle of Yeonpyeong when it occurred. However, because of the movie, I’ve had an opportunity to think deeply about the event, and I want to increase awareness about the battle for others like myself.”
I also did a double-take after seeing Chun Min-hee’s promo pics (she played Young-ae in Emergency Couple), and she cleans up nicely, doesn’t she? (Or maybe that show just went overboard with its unattractive hairstyles for the supporting female cast.) The actress hopes she can learn a lot during filming, and said, “I’m anticipating this movie even more because it covers the stories of the families; I will give this film my all.”
Battle of Yeonpyeong will be directed by Kim Hak-soon (Dandelion, Rewind) and is garnering attention not only for its cast, but for its producer Jung Moon-goo (The Attorney, Thieves), distribution company NEW (The Attorney, Gift of Room 7) and cinematographer Kim Hyung-goo (The Host) — here’s hoping all of these noteworthy parts will make for an even greater whole. Filming has just begun, and the movie will be released in the first half of 2015.

I think she was the curly-haired intern who was married and having to-get-pregnant-or-not-to-get-pregnant issues with her intern hubby(?)

This was actually the 2nd battle, the first one took place in 1999. This sounds like a sanitized, warm and fuzzy take on a bunch of people shooting each other up, and no doubt a bunch of the usual head slapping and over acting.
I doubt they will include such things as "..According to a North Korean defector's statement in 2012, the North Korean patrol boat crewmembers involved in the battle suffered extensive splinter injuries from the South Korean "Devastator" shells. The injured North Koreans were reportedly quarantined in a hospital in Pyongyang to hide the extent of the casualties suffered in the battle.."
