Kim Ji-soo’s DUI won’t keep her out of drama
by javabeans
Looks like KBS is standing by leading lady Kim Ji-soo, and will not be cutting her from her upcoming sageuk drama King Geunchogo despite the controversy over her drunk hit-and-run accident a couple weeks ago.
The timing of the accident was uncomfortably close to the premiere of KBS’s new big-budget production, which had producers and broadcasters worried as the wave of public scorn for Kim’s actions cast the show in a negative light before it had even begun. The station made an early statement that they were not considering dropping Kim, but there was still speculation that her job was in danger, with the public calling for her dismissal. The tenor was particularly harsh given that this was Kim’s second DUI; the first was in 2000.
A senior rep from the drama stated on October 21 that Kim would remain onboard, saying, “We recognize that the situation with Kim Ji-soo comes with social and ethical problems. We did think hard about whether to drop her. However, she has reflected heavily and intends to throw herself even more thoroughly into her role, and she will receive sufficient punishment in a legal sense, so we decided to continue as planned.”
King Geunchogo will premiere on November 6 and is planned for 70 episodes.

I won't be watching the drama but I am glad for her and hope she truly has repented, for good.

I feel like she should offer to drop out. Flaunting yourself on a drama in a lead role so soon after your arrest- sort of leaves a bad taste.
But then I guess, it's time to make some money off a 70 episode series just in case her career suffers a bit until people forget.

I think one problem is they've already started shooting. If she drops out, it really screws everybody else over.

Absurd. 2 DUIs and no punishment.
&who knows how many other times she's drank and drive without being caught?
Absurd.

It's just a DUI people. I know Koreans are especially critical about the image of celebrities. Celebrities are people too and they make mistakes. Yes, celebrities have an image to preserve, however, a DUI charge does not reflect on her ability to act. So good for her. I've read and seen way too many celebrities ruin their career because of public backlash merely for their personal lifestyle habits and choices. It's their life. Seriously. Netizens back off.

Uhh, getting a DUI is bad enough, but this was not only KJS's 2nd DUI, but one in connection w/ a hit and run accident.
While I agree netizens can be a bit too much, let's not go overboard and give her a pass.
Having said that, as long as she is punished by the legal system, I don't think she needs to be punished when it comes to her career (at least not yet).

I love how there's always that holier-than-netizen comment whenever some sort of celebrity gets in trouble. It's double lol when the article mentions nothing, absolutely nothing about netizen movements.
It banged so loud I called it the bandwagon.

To be a celebrity you take the good with the bad. And yes, celebs ARE people but being a celebrity image is everything. She is a celebrity, she shouldn't be going around drinking and driving.

So both of her DUIs are booked when she's *not* in a steady relationship? Mmm... Jisoo we know you can act and be merciful on the eyes. Now just get yourself together with a good man - or a designated driver!

I thought this too, but I didn't want to excuse her choices.
