Well, I don't mind with an open ending for JA and DK relationship. But what the heck with other characters from Hae-sung from Mom, Auntie, and Grandpa who magically turned into a good person???

I understand there's a time jump for one year, but what??? The Haesung turned to be a really happy family; the Father forgave the Mother just because the mother admitted that she made a mistake in the past; Jisoo lived with her biological family at the end (although it's clear in the episode 51 she said that she's going to live in Baebang-dong forever).

It seemed like the writer needed to make a tie-end with all characters had their happy ending (regardless the fact Daddy Seo died). Well, it's not easy. But it's all too rushed.

The grandpa being nice made me puke. Like no way that unrepentant evil suddenly became mushy in a year.

They should have kept him evil and lonely and estranged from the happy people.

Agreed @mary. I'd expected Grandpa would be a lonely character at the end when everybody left him. Let him learn a lesson. It didn't make any senses a person's character changed in just in a year.

Seeing the Grandpa having tea with his two daughters and son in-laws and marrying the woman he'd lived with, like what.... is the writer serious with the Grandpa ending????!!!!

I'm basically OKAY with not-everyone got their happy ending.

To me, "My Father is Strange" ending is waaaayyyyy better where every character took everything slowly but sure.

I think the drama itself spent too much time on back-and-forth DK fight with Haesung to prove himself. And, it didn't give a chance for every character to really settle at the end.

Although the Daddy Seo died at the end, I like his closure better that any other character.

Logged in to 2nd this comment. It was just too unbelievable. I do think " Marriage Contract" was more believable and similar to what you said above. The dad is on his own and still talking about ruling the company

The lasting impression I received from the ending of the show is that Jian has to deal with an obsessive stalker, Do-kyung. As the last two episodes showed, DK manipulated family and friends to put himself back into Jian's life when she returned from Finland. It was not a coincidence that he outside the art gallery, buys bread at Jian's brother's bakery, or happens to run into her. It shows a continued selfish pattern by DK to win over Jian. But as Jian recognized time after time, DK is seeking a one sided relationship; that he has never truly helped her. Nothing has changed since the first or second time they broke up. It seems the plan has always been to wear her down with his smirky smile.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again hoping for a different result. DK left HG to show he could be independent of his rich family to impress Jian. But he was brought up in an environment of excessive, arrogant privilege. That is part of his character that will not change. When he went back to HG, it was to save himself and his family's wealth. After Jian leaves, DK sets the same blueprint in motion by leaving HG to run his wood pellet company until Jian returns. He starts showing up around her to confuse her or stir up forgotten memories. Jian tries to be nice to him and let him down, but he takes it as a green light to continue to pursue her. When he shows up in Finland on the farce of a business trip (VP Yoo said the business was just breaking even so it made no sense to expand with expensive overseas products), the same manipulation pattern is started all over again: I am a changed man, I have your love of wood, we should start over again, if you have feelings . . . etc. But DK does not have the worries of an average person: lives in a large apartment, drinks fine wine, he has his family's wealth and probably kept open his return to the chairman position once he uncle retires. I cannot see anything good happening with a DK-Jian relationship since DK is destined to return to HG and his family.

The one person who was truly nice and supportive of Jian was Hyuk. He listened to her; respected her decisions; trusted her judgment; and would have made her an equal partner in a relationship. It is a stark contrast to how DK treats Jian. The main story line would have been better if there was a love triangle between Hyuk, Jian and Jisu. The question of whether wealth equates to happiness could have been explored between the character's principles, ideals and emotions between the two sisters.

If one looks at the show as landscape of fate, poor Seo-Hyun, the youngest HG daughter, returns home after a flop arranged marriage to find herself having to apply for an entry level job at the company. She has no prospects since Jiho works with his new girlfriend. She was never in control of her life.

So whose "Golden Life" was it? If you define life as a beginning, middle and end, it was Tae-soo's. His death brought...

Hi! I appreciate your honest opinion and personal insight regarding the story we happened to both followed (and loved?) up to the end. I respectfully offer mine as well for the benefit of those who might stumble across this humble site.

Dokyung to some might looked like a "stalker" with all those planned "coincidences". But this is really a recurring theme. This is not unique to Dokyung-Jian. The same "unexpectedly" running into each other events have been demonstrated numerous times by Namgu-Hee, Jitae-Sooa, and even Jian-Jisu (when Jian was curious and hoped to fish information regarding the Haesong household). These encounters resulted more interaction with the parties and ultimately the people involved reconciled.

Would it be selfish for DK to reappear in JA's life after a year? Probably. Jian stated the same. But did DK not respect Taesu's wish to wait? Did DK stop JA for pursuing another year of study abroad? Is waiting forever means doing nothing and hiding in absolute seclusion?

Regardless of "stalking" and "manipulating family and friends", JA and DK will definitely meet each other again. In one, two, three or whenever years, they will eventually and surely meet again.

Why? For one, they both have Jisu in their lives. Hyuk repeatedly insisted on marrying Jisu for the past year based on the last episode. Attending the marriage ceremony of a family member is really important in this story as shown during Jitae-Sooa's wedding. Would either JA or DK miss that now?

Additionally, Taesu recognized the inevitable that JA and DK will meet again. He was against for them, at that time, dating and probably the same can be said for JA. But Taesu himself invoked that the only one who can heal a broken heart is the one who broke it. It takes time and he tells DK to wait. What does that mean? This implicitly tells Taesu gave DK the former's blessing to meet JA again after he is long gone.

Is pursuing your love based on your personal feelings really selfish? Do the opinion of others and circumstances of one's family foremost outweigh the heart? What did Taesu exactly tell JA?

Now, moving on to DK. He was mentioned as someone who was brought up in an environment of excessive and arrogant privilege and this part of his character will not change. Is he really? Did he do this? Were his actions and decisions really the will of Haesong Corporation? Even JA herself felt DK returned not to be the CEO of Haesong for good as she confided this to Myungshin. And a year later, JA confirmed this again as she really expected him to step down eventually, when Jisu revealed that DK resigned just after 6 months. JA was not even surprised.

What surprised JA was that DK handed over the reins of Haesong to his uncle. The same man who wished to destroy DK's family! If DK really wanted to save himself and his family's wealth, why did he hand it over to his "enemy"? When DK became CEO, he made his grandpa's, father's and mother's...

...expulsion stand. These effectively uprooted himself and his (immediate) family from anything Haesong's corporate life. DK's mom is just an unemployed and plain housewife now.

One might argue that DK is open to return as the chairman when his uncle retires. But this contradicts the events that unfolded in the story. Why?

Grandpa mused about installing a very youthful Jinsoo (DK's cousin that made no appearance) as a probable replacement if DK did not return. How much more now when Jinsoo is in the right age and his father is in the total control of Haesong?

Another one, DK is set on expanding his company. And even JA noticed this. It was mentioned that only a few made a company into a corporation. One of which is his grandpa. And DK managed to defeat him. DK's uncle even attested to this. It is bound to happen that DK will become successful in the future without aid or influence from Haesong. If he will ever return again, surely it is the one time when he pays his last respects to grandpa.

The way I see this, DK is bound to shed off and lose his world (his original chaebol life) in order for a meaningful JA-DK relationship to prosper. And I inclined to believe based on the events that DK is gravitating towards to achieve that end. We just did not see it in full bloom in a year of events.

DK indeed does not have the worries of an average person. That is one reason that he needs to go back, sorts it out first, and lets it go completely. He needed to severe the ties that is holding him back.

And I believe JA is a strong and smart woman that can't be easily swayed, stirred up, or worn down by a "smirky smile." She stood her ground. Her goals and direction are clear. JA decided not to give up everything for love. In the last few scenes, it is definitely demonstrated that the feeling between the two leads is mutual, still is. If DK managed to find a way for them to see each other again without JA giving up her everything, then it is a happy ending for both of them.

I would not comment further on Hyuk since he got the best and happiest possible ending for his relationship. He himself sank the ship with JA. Hyuk and Jisu are happy and loving couple and that's all that matters.

Seohyun needs to apply to get a job because DK removed the special employment program that breeds nepotism. It means Seohyun is now in control of her life, it is not Haesong that will decide for her job, but her own will. Looking for a job and looking for a love life based on your own merits and decision mean she is now the master of her own fate.

Overall, it is a fun and good ride. I enjoyed My Golden Life and it is something that left a huge impact in me. I hope everyone enjoys and feels the same.

My golden life is my best Korean serial drama i have ever watched on Moon tv Uganda last year to the extent that i chose to re-watch the full episode on Youtube.
However, the title of the serie didn't suit it, there was no one's golden since almost every one surfered. I guess the writer missed out on that. And besides that, the final episode was kind of a rush. I wanted to see DK and Jian life after their union but it just stopped their. Their relationship was such a captivating faletale because arrogant guys with lush background like Dk need girls like Jian to get in line. Anyway for their hearts to settle they had to reunite becuase they deeply loved each other. Im a Ugandan diehard of those two and the serie at large.

I really enjoyed this Series. Found it almost addictive and also frustrating . Brilliant acting from the cast. Eye opening with regard to insights into current Korean daily life . Sad not to be able to know how Jian and DK learned to live with each other ( or not) we had really suffered the long struggle ! Well done to the Cast & Crew

I love it... It has a happy ending, and it was not stalker, he was from far away being with Ji-an, suporting her... He said I will love her for ever and the father gave his blessing, she could not forget about DK, in fact she had a little statie of him... Of course, he was "rowing in jam" for her because his manipulated grandpa. Very nice story.
