So BINJIN is real!
A very good morning indeed.
I’m just over here CACKLING, cuz we been knew & were just waiting for a confirmation, no? 😂
Dispatch is a bitch for forcing their hand, but I can’t be too mad about it this time, because this is the one time I was actually madly shipping people.
I guess love really does show, because there’s no way you’d look at those two and not think they’re fucking in love with each other. Anyways, this is too many words to say I’m happy for them & wish them the best, and thank them once more for lending their chemistry to CLOY
because the truth is (like it or not).. the fandom that has the time to do all crazy antics (aka sustain fandoms, merch purchase etc) .. is essentially 10-teenagers segment..
they are immature!
One direction’s fan study is best example. And the way Harry owned that truth was also amazing – “Yes, they are young teenagers but that doesn’t mean they can’t choose for their own” ( completely not siding with them on being mature 😛 .. such a soft blow that fandom didn’t even realize)
I doubt Dispatch actually forced their hand. My guess is that this was all a very well orchestrated announcement – SYJ and HB strike me as being too savvy and experienced to “get caught.” The article itself and the subsequent statements are all an air-tight narrative – and may I just add, good for them for controlling their story and their timing. More power to them!
I thought the very same thing.
These celebs are most of the time in control of their narratives & the “close people” the article mentions are most likely PR & this whole thin is PR orchestrated.
In other news, I have been watching RUN ON diligently and I LOVE it.
I have a lot to say about the show, but I’ll leave that for a later time.
Today though, this scene literally made my heart skip! Im Siwan has one of the clearest, most complex, soulful eyes… it’s arresting. When people talk of “eyes like pools of honey,” this is what I think it looks like. His gaze is so soft and subtle, but full of thousands of emotions you’ll miss if you blink. I could wax poetic about it 💖
THEY BOTH ARE SO CUTE! AND THEY ARE BOTH DOING SUCH A GOOD JOB ACTING! Im Si-wan, whom I always thought impressive, is now just a total heartthrob imo.
Gosh same! And yes to everything!
I wanted to watch more of him in dramas after Misaeng, but his follow ups weren’t really my type of shows… I’m so glad this one landed with me!
I think I will bingewatch his movies soon. I remember thinking he looked very cool in The Merciless, but never did get around to watching it.

As always, this little community of ours is one of the things I’m grateful for. May 2021 treat us with kindness, heal our wounds of this past year & inform us on how to move forward responsibly.
KAI’s solo debut just came to my attention!
The (mini) album is amazing & turning out to be in fact one of my favorite releases this year.
Like wow they really snapped, just look at this visual album MV thingy — ART.
I haven’t liked a k-pop release so completely since Taemin’s debut album ‘Press It.’
Second the dance practice videos, they’re awesome! And I love the whole album. Kai’s an all rounder: he’s got voice, dance skills and visuals.
But I very much object to his styling in all the MVs except Ride or Die. What’s the deal with those scarfy shirts? Been seeing them everywhere, even in webtoons! And all the shirtless dancing is a bit much – but maybe that’s just because I’m one of those who can’t deal with too much of a good thing 🤣
Anyway, he looks so stunning that he’s nice to look at even in ugly outfits. So no complaints here, only praise!
I don’t mind the shirtless dancing tbh, but I’m a degenerate so my opinion can’t be relied on. I do find some of the styling super weird though. The blue, too-small shirt with the bright red pants and weird head covering are bit much. Also, the cowboy outfit plus sensual dancing are perhaps a bit too Magic Mike for comfort LOL. Second the point about him being so pretty that he stands out even in ugly outfits! He’s a really nice to look at it.
I really love the entire album as well! Have been listening to it a lot for the past little bit. And I agree re all-rounder — Kai has a lot of talent as a dancer and as a singer! He’s also great on variety shows and really pretty lol.
Is it just me or is there a plethora of up-and-coming, handsome young actors lately?
Think Song Kang, Lee Jae-wook, Kim Young-dae, Lee Do-hyun…
I Love it!
(I would just love to see them more in the types of shows I like, esp. the last two hehe)!
I’m watching Cheat On Me, If You Can for KYD. The show itself is okay, although nothing especially great. If you watch it, you’ll probably hate Go Joon’s character with a passion. However, the antics involving CYJ and KYD’s relationship with CYJ’s character are cute. The mystery plot is pretty sub-par IMO, although it’s passable enough to keep me watching without FFing.
I watched the premiere & already hated Go Joon’s character! He’s so vile & pathetic but so well-played!
Y’know what i’ll watch a few more episodes and see those antics! Thanks for answering.
I don’t personally find Lee Jae-wook handsome, although I nod vigorously re Lee Do-hyun (especially Lee Do-hyun!) and Kim Young-dae. Song Kang is alright as well.
With me, the case is that I start finding an actor handsome if he portrays a character well. This happened very strongly in the case of Kim Woo Bin. I had never seen him before The Heirs and I loved him so much as Young Do that I started finding him really handsome
I think this is pretty fair! The role can make a big difference. There are a lot of people whom I like more or less depending on how they act, the roles they play, or how they are during variety show appearances. (I will have to disagree with you about The Heirs though. LOL.)
Fair! You’d be perfectly within your rights to like it as well — I’d just have a different opinion.
I think I’ve only seen KWB in a movie which also had Lee Junho and Kang Haneul. I don’t remember the name of the movie, but it was a comedy. I thought he was pretty good in that (although his character was pretty meh).
Song Kang is a prime example of flower boy looks, which i find more cute than handsome per se, but still good-looking in a very innocent way. Can’t believe he’s 26!
He’s 26? 😲😲😲 That’s surprising. I do think he’s a flower boy and that might be a bit of why I don’t like him as much as Kim Young-dae and Lee Do-hyun, who give a more masculine appearance. Having said that, I’m pretty inconsistent about this sort of thing. I find Lee Joon-gi super good-looking and attractive, and I think he’s a bit of a flower boy as well. I also like Simon Gong Jun’s visuals and I think he is also a bit of a flower boy too.
Did I just find my end-of-year drama?
I decided to try Run On on a whim and I loved it!
I loved the offbeat dialogue, the quirky characters and the atmosphere (although I’m lost on if there’s an actual plot).
I have never been able to watch a Shin Sekyung drama and I gave this a try bc Im Siwan was in it, but I’m pleasantly surprised that I liked SSK’s character and acting in this! Idk if it just suits her style or if she’s generally improved.
I’m waiting for a few more episodes to decide if I want to complete this & I hope I won’t be disappointed, bc I got a really good first impression from the premier!
And this is really giving me WFKBJ vibes (not just bc of the sports theme)
PS: Is Im Siwan’s character on the autism spectrum or is he just plain weird?
I found his looks almost uncanny and Ken doll-like at the very beginning of ep 1, with his straight expression, but it really works for his character’s weirdness, lol.
Everything about this show is super offbeat. It’s an interesting directorial choice. They almost seem like aliens… But like, not in a bad way.
Ditton on your feelings. I’m not sure what the plot is or if there’s any but it’s endearing so I’m sticking with it for now(because usually plot less shows lose me soon).
I just loved the premiere and the weirdly honest relation they share from the beginning. I don’t know where drama is heading or what it is about, but I was smiling during the whole two episodes and when they ended I was a in a better mood. I can’t find a better reason to watch a drama.
Day 15 – Those secondary characters you will never forget: SL, villain, kids…(for better or worse).
The Ducklings! Such a fun bunch that ended up becoming the best brothers to Yoon Seri. They all had distinct personalities, but were also distinct as a unit & they were hilarious together.
Day 16 – Best quote / oneliner. “That lousy capitalist heart!” – Ri Jeonghyuk/ Hyun Bin, CLOY (2020)
Will forever have me howling with laughter.
There are a lot of poignant quotes from CLOY & IONTBO that come to mind, but that one is just too ICONIC. The words, the delivery *chef’s kiss*
Day 17 – The drama that made you emotional. It’s Okay Not To Be Okay: really managed not to just tap into our feelings of empathy for the characters, but also engaged our own feelings on a personal level, because of how relatable the emotions were. While the characters faced their own set of hardships, we could all relate to having A hardship & experiencing similar emotions. Which was incredibly cathartic for me as I cried & laughed with AND for them. THIS is a prime example of how you make a “healing” drama & it was exactly I needed in middle of this pandemic. 💖
(I’m skipping Day 18 because there’s not that much to rant about. I loved the dramas that I loved & I’ve talked at length about them, and the ones I hated are not worth that much of my energy lol)
They just swarmed the comment section 🤦🏻♀️ One troll even followed a beanie’s fan wall and made a comment there! Thank goodness, db staff cleaned it up.
Some Beanies told me that I’ll need around 3500 comments plus a lot of followers and the ones I’m following. I don’t know if that helps but I am religiously following their advice 😅.
commenting on recaps, articles is much more efficient than posting on the fanwall ^^’
it’s not about milestones comments, just a weird DB algorithm *sigh*
If that’s true i’m almost there. But i’ve also followed the advices to be more in recaps & articles, which i’ve been doing… let’s see if it yields anything in 2021!
I got busy with pre-holiday studywork to prep for post-holiday exams, and bingewatching HYENA in my free time, so I\’m not all caught up on the #2020roundup. I\’ll just condense it all here.
Day 9 – The drama you watched just because and end up loving & Day 10 – The drama beanies convinced you to watch and you can’t be grateful enough (kind of the same question for me, with the same answer).
It being: When the Weather is Nice. I\’ve mentioned before how I was apprehensive about SKJ, which is what made me hesitate mostly. But beanies only had good things to say, and I really wanted to also watch Lee Jae-wook and I was curious about PMY in a quiet role. I never start shows with the intention of completing them, I check them out for a while before I decide that. But I fell in love with this show on ep.1 & I\’m so glad I gave it a try.
Day 11- The crush you discovered in 2020
HYUN BIN. I know this might be weird. I\’ve been watching dramas for years, and this wasn\’t even my first time watching him. But damn did I fall hard for him this year. The thing is I was never quite taken with him, because all his drama roles were sort of a variation of the same chaebol/ manchild archetype, and that never really allowed him to show his softer, affable side that I liked most about him. But through his Ri Jeong-hyuk, I went through some Hyun Bin fever for like half of this year LOL. I do hope CLOY was the beginning of him taking on more of those types of characters, they suit him so well 💖
Day 12 – The “oldie” (not 2020) you loved the most.
My Name is Kim Sam-soon, I had put it off for so long & this year was as good a time as any for the reasons stated above. I loved it, it was perfect and stood the test of time. Truly a classic. And I gotta give this one to Kim Sun-ah, she was amazing.
Day 13 – Most fashionable / elegant character in a drama
Ko Moonyoung. Not only did she wear it well, she was perfectly dramatic & we all know drama is the best accessory, it adds a certain flair to an outfit.
Day 14 – The drama that could have been but wasn’t… (if only they listened to beanies!)
Moment of silence for A Piece of Your Mind. I found its first half atrocious and a bit problematic, but I was disappointed to see it cut off prematurely as the second half actually made sense and was quite a nice warm vibe. And I really like JHI and CSB as a couple.
I finally started HYENA!
I’ve watched the first 4 ep & it’s a lot of fun. I’m firmly in Heejae’s camp, bc from what i know so far, Geumja is just a schrewed, intelligent but terrible person. So i find it hard to sympathize with her even though there seems to be more to her story. But she’s fucking hilarious.
Watching their tit for tat was engrossing & super entertaining, and now that Geumja is going to be at Song&Kim I’m really excited to see them work together & how their relationship will develop.
I feel like i wouldn’t have watched this drama under any other circumstances, but KHS & JJH make for such interesting and refreshing leads together for me to miss out on this & the supporting cast is pretty good to which makes for an overall great cast.
Like you, my thought was, she’s a total hyena (in fact, both of them), and I was looking forward to see her develop some moral capacity, but the show took me on a more complicated journey. In the end, I was happy to see her as a rare representation of an intelligent and capable woman. Overall, it was a standout for me.
Mok Haewon and Lim Eunsop.
Mostly because I had my doubts about SKJ, who I wasn’t very fond of prior to this, and therefore didn’t think he and PMY would play off each other well… but I was pleasantly surprised! He was withdrawn and adorably awkward opposite a quiet and reserved PMY, and they fit so well together!
Well, I’m totally biased by SKJ (in the opposite sense!) and I knew I would love him in the drama.
But truth is they were fantastic together, and as much as I adore SKJ, I think PMY is the main responsible for that. I haven’t seen a drama in which she doesn’t have an amazing chemistry with her costar.
I liked quite a lot of OSTs but CLOY, IONTBO, Hospital Playlist and Nobody knows were a standout, not just the individual OSTs but the complete albums. CLOY and IONTBO were wistful, Hospital Playlist had that famaliar nostalgic vibe that we’re used to from this PD-Writer duo, and Nobody Knows was gritty and heartwarming.
If I had to pick one song though it would be Sunset by Davichi from CLOY! This was my most played song all year (according to spotify) and it’s for a reason. It’s beautiful and has comforted me all year through its melody and words.
(PS: I wish the thumbnail for this video was different, bc I’m still cackling at that particular scene even though we can all agree that gravity is obviously nothing compared to their chemistry LOL)
I’ve already rewatched CLOY 3x ( and I’m in my 4th rewatch. I need some joy in this winter…lol help), because it’s so much fun, cracktastic, and oozing with all-around chemistry!
I will for sure rewatch FOS2, Hospital Playlist, IONTBO and The School Nurse Files.
I don’t know if you are on Twitter, but they are having a group watch with Netflix party. Today they have watched ep. 7. It’s difficult to me to join because of the time zone, but perhaps you could. It seems fun.
I want to have my 2020 bean count on my fanwall, so I\’m sharing it here as well.
14 beans! That\’s about right as I usually complete a dozen dramas or so per year. Would have loved to add Hyena and Memorials, but I haven\’t started them yet, though I probably will have completed them by the end of year.
*⭐= beans
*Actual rating= (in parenthesis)
*My Top 5 are italics.
Stove League (3/5) Crash Landing on You ⭐⭐ (4/5)
Black Dog (3.5/5) I’ll Find You on a Beautiful Day ⭐ (4/5)
No One Knows⭐ (4/5) Hospital Playlist ⭐⭐ (5/5)
Kingdom 2 (3/5)
A Piece of Your Mind (2.5/5)
A Couple’s World⭐ (3/5)
The King: Eternal Monarch (no rating, awful) It’s Okay to Not Be Okay ⭐⭐⭐ (4.5/5) Forest of Secrets 2 ⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)
The School Nurse Files⭐ (4/5)
Tale of the Nine Tailed (3/5 for LDW\’s face lmao)
It was kind of hard to rate them all with only 14 beans, so I gave beans to the shows I enjoyed most, with 3 beans being the maximum.
I have to say even though 2020 was a disastrous, traumatic year, it was a pretty damn good drama year (for me). More than ever, dramas really gave me comfort and a place to escape to 💖
Oh well. There\’s always a lot of them.
Brahms, Itaewon Class, Hi Bye Mama, When My Love Blooms, off the top of my head. Maybe there\’s more.
I either hated how the drama progressed or it wasn\’t my kind of show.
I live-watched A Piece of Your Mind, HATED the first half and dropped it, but recently completed it because I liked the warmth it exuded, and I\’m a sucker for JHI lol. After picking it up again, I was pissed they cut it, bc the 2nd half was nice!
I’m slowly catching up!
#2020Roundup Day 2-That female lead you will never forget
Top Pick: Ko Moonyoung
A psycho indeed but the best kind. I loved that she pulled no punches and said everything unfiltered. I really don’t think there’s any other female character like her in dramaland? Dramas usually reserve her brand of aggressive honesty and unapologetic attitude for men. Watching her grow and learn how to be vulnerable and let other people care for her was amazing, but she never stopped being the fabulous confident queen we all loved. Plus she has a wicked sense of humour AND killer fashion to boost!
(And in no particular order): #Mok Haewon
Quiet and calm, but always stands up for her self. Caring for the people she loves, and with enough sense to give them their own space and let them come to her in time. While she tried to hang in there, she also didn’t pretend like things weren’t hard when they were. And something that I really admired about her was that she always chose herself.
#Cha Youngjin
When we meet her, she has quite the chip on her shoulder, which she goes on to carry for years. But her tenacity, her loyalty, and her compassion is what she’s really made of. And those badass fighting skills. While she appears cold at first, we see how she’s a rather warm-hearted person by how much grace, understanding and friendships she extends to others, especially the young people around her. Nobody Knows might be the most underrated gem of this year, but it did a lot of things right and a badass female character was one of them.
#Han Yeojin
One of my all time faves! Still a badass, still so kind, still the best partner, but wearier and tangibly more skeptical this season. They put her through quite a bit this season, but she still came out on top. I will always love her for her insubordination and mischief & how she doesn’t think anyone is above her.
#2020Roundup Day 5: The drama you finished just for the bean
I would say NONE as I\’m very selective about the dramas I watch (to completion). If I don\’t enjoy a drama, I just drop it. I don\’t need that energy in my life, why waste my time on something I don\’t like if I can control whether I engage with it or not?
That\’s not to say there aren\’t terrible dramas i\’ve completed, but that\’s mostly bc I enjoy trashing them, call me petty (I am). 🤷♀️😂
This year I\’d say The King takes the cake. I very much enjoyed trashing/hate-watching it & gasping over every ridiculous bit as if I didn\’t expect it.
PS: can someone enlighten me on what Day 4 was about? I also still need to do Day 2, and i\’m also sitting on my final thoughts about Nine Tailed ( i\’m being lazy but i should get to it soon before i give up).
Here you have the list of themes left:
Day 6 – The drama you know you will rewatch.
Day 7 – That OST you’re obsessed with.
Day 8 – The OTP you didn’t think you’ll adore.
Day 9 – The drama you watched just because and end up loving.
Day 10 – The drama beanies convinced you to watch and you can’t be grateful enough.
Day 11- The crush you discovered in 2020.
Day 12 – The “oldie” (not 2020) you loved the most.
Day 13 – Most fashionable / elegant character in a drama.
Day 14 – The drama that could have been but wasn’t… (if only they listened to beanies!)
Day 15 – Those secondary characters you will never forget: SL, villain, kids…(for better or worse).
Day 16 – Best quote / oneliner.
Day 17 – The drama that made you emotional.
Day 18 – The drama you want to rant about.
Day 19 – Most memorable scene.
Day 20 – That cameo that blew up your mind.
Days 21 to 31- Freestyle

Is it just me or is there a plethora of up-and-coming, handsome young actors lately?
Think Song Kang, Lee Jae-wook, Kim Young-dae, Lee Do-hyun…
I Love it!
(I would just love to see them more in the types of shows I like, esp. the last two hehe)!

I’m deciding if I should just watch Cheat On Me If You Can JUST for Kim Young-dae LOL? Bc I didn’t really like the show, but I like him, so… 👉👈
Can anyone who’s watching the show advise me on how worth it this would be? 😅

December 20, 2020 at 4:37 PM

December 20, 2020 at 6:27 PM
With me, the case is that I start finding an actor handsome if he portrays a character well. This happened very strongly in the case of Kim Woo Bin. I had never seen him before The Heirs and I loved him so much as Young Do that I started finding him really handsome
Maq
December 20, 2020 at 8:14 PM
I think this is pretty fair! The role can make a big difference. There are a lot of people whom I like more or less depending on how they act, the roles they play, or how they are during variety show appearances. (I will have to disagree with you about The Heirs though. LOL.)

Fair! You’d be perfectly within your rights to like it as well — I’d just have a different opinion.
I think I’ve only seen KWB in a movie which also had Lee Junho and Kang Haneul. I don’t remember the name of the movie, but it was a comedy. I thought he was pretty good in that (although his character was pretty meh).
Yuyuu, The Drama Queen

Song Kang is a prime example of flower boy looks, which i find more cute than handsome per se, but still good-looking in a very innocent way. Can’t believe he’s 26!
Maq
December 20, 2020 at 8:12 PM

They almost seem like aliens… But like, not in a bad way.

but romance and last scene in ep 2, “this is my girlfriend, (turns around faces her) seriously (big big big smile)”

Day 8 – The OTP you didn’t think you’ll adore.

Day 7 – That OST you’re obsessed with
I liked quite a lot of OSTs but CLOY, IONTBO, Hospital Playlist and Nobody knows were a standout, not just the individual OSTs but the complete albums.

Stove League (3/5)
Crash Landing on You ⭐⭐ (4/5)
Black Dog (3.5/5)
I’ll Find You on a Beautiful Day ⭐ (4/5)
No One Knows⭐ (4/5)
Hospital Playlist ⭐⭐ (5/5)
Kingdom 2 (3/5)
A Piece of Your Mind (2.5/5)
A Couple’s World⭐ (3/5)
The King: Eternal Monarch (no rating, awful)
It’s Okay to Not Be Okay ⭐⭐⭐ (4.5/5)
Forest of Secrets 2 ⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)
The School Nurse Files⭐ (4/5)
Tale of the Nine Tailed (3/5 for LDW\’s face lmao)
It was kind of hard to rate them all with only 14 beans, so I gave beans to the shows I enjoyed most, with 3 beans being the maximum.
I have to say even though 2020 was a disastrous, traumatic year, it was a pretty damn good drama year (for me). More than ever, dramas really gave me comfort and a place to escape to 💖

Day 4 -The drama you couldn’t finish

#2020Roundup
Day 2-That female lead you will never forget
Top Pick: Ko Moonyoung
A psycho indeed but the best kind. I loved that she pulled no punches and said everything unfiltered. I really don’t think there’s any other female character like her in dramaland? Dramas usually reserve her brand of aggressive honesty and unapologetic attitude for men. Watching her grow and learn how to be vulnerable and let other people care for her was amazing, but she never stopped being the fabulous confident queen we all loved. Plus she has a wicked sense of humour AND killer fashion to boost!
(And in no particular order):
#Mok Haewon

#2020Roundup
Day 5: The drama you finished just for the bean
