about the episode count… someone had posted in the earlier days.. so if there is a recent change stating only 2 ep.. then i am not aware

I can’t find anything about ep count other than the article I linked, which I’m not sure was accurate or it could have been a mistranslation. I do know it was filmed from March to April so it can’t be super long

New NGNL OST track, and it’s by Cheeze!

Per Korean netizen chatter, Spice Up Our Love will start airing Oct 3 on TVing (see image). I also found out that it filmed from March to April, so it’s probably on the shorter side

If it’s only 2 episodes, they’ll probably just drop both on that day. So we can watch the spin-off 2 days after the show ends.

    3
    1

The way they’re talking about it makes it sound like more than 2 eps (they keep emphasizing how this has never been done before, whereas other dramas have had 2 ep spinoffs, like Mr. Queen). At least, I’m hoping it’s more! But, yes, that would be the advantage of 2 eps.

Lee Sang-yi\’s and Han Ji-hyun\’s photo spread and interviews for Allure Korea

Per Google Translate: \”Currently airing, \’I Don\’t Want to Lose Money\’ starring Shin Min-a and Kim Young-dae is reborn as a two-part romance fantasy drama called \’The Boss\’s Menu\’ and will be released on the OTT (online video service) platform Tving. The \’point of interest\’ is that the sub-couple (Lee Sang-yi and Han Ji-hyun) will appear as the main characters and show a new relationship. \’The Boss\’s Menu\’ is the title of a novel written by Nam Ja-yeon, a web novel writer in \’I Don\’t Want to Lose Money\’.\”

So it looks like it will be two episodes, and will only be broadcast online?

I think two-part refers to there being two different related dramas, not the length of the sequel. Did it say it was 2 episodes somewhere else?

    1
    1

Ohhh, that would make x sense.
Someone on MDL said they read somewhere that it’d only be two eps but they couldn’t recall the source

      0
      0

it is not 2 episodes.. it is full fledged drama with transmigration story

    0
    1

Do you have a source for that? Soompi certainly made it sound like a full drama

      0
      1

I want to clarify: I’m asking because people on MDL are saying it’ll only be two eps, but they said they can’t remember the source. I definitely need more than 2 eps!

I never DISLIKED Lee Sang-yi, but I never fully appreciated him until now. To be fair, I only saw him in Hometown Cha Cha Cha and My Demon, which imo were not roles that did his talents justice

He has a beautiful voice. In fact, he has starred in many musicals.

I watched him in Cha Cha Cha for the first time. And then in Yumi’s cells, When the camellia blooms, To Jenny (so lovely little drama), Youth of May, Prison Playbook and even a cameo in Nokdu Flower.

I can say I have been watching him almost since the beginning of my K-drama journey.

Yeah, as a musical theater nerd i was really excited to learn about the stage roles he has done, including Monty in A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder. I looked for clips on YouTube but unfortunately couldn’t turn up any

He was in Prison Playbook? As what character?

Same. He has been in a lot of secondary roles and really blends into the background. I’m interested in him as a lead. He seems like a funny interesting guy.

he is… graduated from a great school and hard core acting talent.. he is besties with the guy who was second lead in Beloved Summer… they are collegemates as well

Bridgerton has changed Sophie Beckett to “Sophie Baek,” suggesting that she will be of Korean descent in-universe. This makes my desire for a K-drama influenced season even stronger

Soompi said that if you align their photos, their gazes meet, so of course I had to test it out. What do you all think?

Hmmm… I don’t see it. But I did love their chemistry in ep 6!

Me, too (on both counts!) They only have had about two actual scenes together and already their chemistry is fantastic

From a comment on MDL for No Gain No Love:

Characters age as per tvN official website
(you can always +1 or -1 because not sure if they follow international or Korean age, when Jang Siljang mentioned he was 13 when Jiwook born, Jiwook technically 1 year old. Babies are considered 1 year old on the day they born following Korean age.)

Son Haeyeong – 33
Kim Jiwook – 26
Bok Gyuhyun – 33
Nam Jayeon – 29
Yeo Hajoon – 29
Ahn Woojae – 35
Cha Heeseong – 32

Don\’t get me wrong, the idea of your mother reading smutty novels is uncomfortable for a lot of people. But I think there\’s more to Gyu-hyun\’s behavior than that alone.

When you think about it, Gyu-hyun has been the sole one to be punished for his father\’s actions. He hasn\’t really done anything wrong, yet he can\’t even have an unmarried female coworker subordinate. His mother can\’t control his father, so she controls him instead. As a result he\’s incredibly repressed and made to feel bad just for who he is and the potential he has (because he\’s his father\’s son). Then he finds out one night that his mother, the one who has made him feel so ashamed of any sexuality that he might have, is reading smutty webnovels.

Not defending his behavior, obviously, but I think it makes total sense that he snapped and essentially lost his mind. Then his behavior was also contributed to by the anonymity and detachment of the internet, which the drama has made very clear.

I agree. He’s basically spent his whole life not just repressing his own sexuality, but also avoiding thinking about that of his parents. So two things happened when he discovered the erotic book and realized his mom had been reading it. First, he was turned on, and that just immediately made him feel overwhelmed, deeply uncomfortable, and frightened even. Then, he had to process that his mother had been reading and enjoying this very explicit material, likely in order to be turned on. I can see why his brain almost exploded!

As you said, there’s still no excuse for the vitriol he launched at the author, but it rings true to me that he can be a decent person and still lash out in this way. He’ll have to continue to atone for it, but part of that is understanding his own reaction to the book, and that involves a radical change in how he views his own sexuality. Only then will he be able to fully process what happened and allow him to make amends.

I also have to say that this is a tough assignment for any writer, but I trust this one to pull it off.

I am watching another “chaeboy controlled by mummy” drama right now where the mother is taking revenge for having no love in her life by securing her boy will stay strictly within the boundaries she arranges for him and will not have anything to do with some random girl that his body and soul think they want.
You should think they would go for a something that looks like love, but apparently no.

      1

Well said! Oh yes, excellent point: his own reaction to the novel also fueled his angst.

A lot of people are wondering how Ja-yeon will be able to be with him knowing he’s capable of this sort of behavior, but I have a few thoughts: 1) The drama is making the point that even otherwise nice and normal people can be capable of real vitriol through the internet – I mean, I know I’ve written things that I wouldn’t have ever said in real life 2) With the first point in mind, the drama has been very clear that Gyu-hyun doesn’t usually behave this way, and as we discussed there are extenuating circumstances that contributed to his behavior. Social psychology research has shown us that, no matter what we think of ourselves, the power of the situation cannot be ignored 3) He clearly feels bad and it looks like the drama is setting him up for major character growth So, I think that will make him do better in the future, regardless.

But don’t we also spend a lot of our time suspending disbelief that folks in a drama could actually believe that women are actually male eunuchs, though? I don’t know how much verisimilitude is being asked for here.

These two are a match in at least one way: Ja-yeon is as equally inexperienced sexually, as we have been told time and again. In fact, both of them behave a LOT like teenagers who have a lot of imagination and a lot of pent-up desire, but zero experience and/or understanding of the responsibilities and consequences of their actions.

      4
      1

That’s very insightful. I’m guessing that Ja-yeon uses fantasy and escapism to deal with (based on what we’ve seen, more like avoid) her past trauma. Kind of reminds me of Ji-wan from Love is for Suckers, who also wrote romance stories that made people’s hearts flutter while having no experience of that in real life, and who also used her stories to avoid having to make real life connections.

I don\’t know if DNA Lover is trying to make some sort of point by convincing me that the leads are more compatible with their respective second leads, but… it is actually convincing me.

Bad Memory Eraser is doing the same. Do two instances make a trend? I wouldn’t mind if there were a chance that a kdrama would actually go there in the end, but it’s being carried to the point of frustration since they almost certainly won’t (because kdrama).

    2
    2

Yep, the problem is in the follow-through. If they set it up, make it emotionally logical, reasonable, and satisfying, and then don’t let the lead get together with the second lead, then it’s DOUBLY frustrating.

      4
      2

I also think narratively her ending up with the 2ML would be more subversive to her beliefs about DNA. Basically, I could easily see this same drama where the 2ML is the ML and I think it might actually work better.

        4
        0

        It is!!
That’s why I don’t watch dramas that give SLS. If I know X is better than Y, but Y is endgame, then the entire story doesn’t make sense. It becomes really frustrating and pointless.

In one drama they had to turn the SL into a psycho near the end to justify the FL ending with the ML. Yikes.

        4
        0

Yes, exactly! I feel like even the usual “romantic” moments that are given to the ML are being given to the 2ML. It’s so weird.

It sucks too because the 2ML has known her for years and only developed feelings for her now. I don’t want to root for him for that reason, but I also don’t think that alone is enough to make me think that she should be with the ML over him, especially in the long-term.

      3

I hate when dramas can\’t give me one moment to enjoy the two leads having a romantic moment without showing me the sad reaction of the 2ML

3

\”Best friend who realizes too late that he\’s in love with the FL\” is probably my least favorite use of the 2ML

It\’s kind of hilarious that Yeon-woo is dealing with the death of his patient, his philandering father, his mother\’s unstable mental health… and then So-jin is over here going \”HOW DO I MAKE HIM EAT THE SAME FOODS AS ME?\”
