Anyone else enjoying The Undateables/Handsome Guy and Jung-eum? I guess the ratings aren’t great but I think it’s a quirky little gem. yeah, Hwang Jung-eum is a bit over the top but I find her adorable—an energetic cartoon character opposite Namkoong Min’s impassive Buster Keaton.

Ep. 8-9: Their first kiss

In K-drama terms, their story is a Fated Love but things aren’t going to be easy for them. It’s a pleasure watching moments of connection and attraction as they bring people together and recognize each other’s good qualities.

Ep. 12: Hoon-nam and Jung-eum

Ep. 11-12 are my favorite so far. After Ep. 8’s passionate kiss that went nowhere, I loved how their forced sleepover in the countryside provided moments of humor and vulnerability. Jung-eum teaching Hoon-nam how to ride a bicycle is too sweet for words—made all the more poignant when she later considers the possibility of his lonely childhood.

While their relationship pattern is a sweet moment followed by casual cruelty, they’re increasingly getting under each other’s skin—in a good way. Frankly, I find Namkoong Min an odd actor. But I liked his serial killer in Girl Who Sees Smells and I’m growing accustomed to his reluctance to maintain eye contact with his scene partners.

Ep. 12: Charlie and Jun-soo

I dig Jung-eum’s lifelong cross-gender friendship with Jun-soo. I generally loath love triangles but I appreciate Jun-soo’s sweetness. He also wins points for being cool about Charlie’s probable crush.

The show also gets points complex parents—especially Eun-nim, Hoon-nam’s mother. It’s refreshing that Eun-nim regards him fully as her son, made all the more special by the flashbacks. I hope that she never returns to her marriage. Let the bucket list be just the beginning!

Ep. 12: Irritated when his cousin says Eun-nim doesn’t like him, Hoon-man foolishly bets his blank oath that he’ll seduce and dump her

What do you think of Hoon-nam’s bet to seduce and dump Jung-eum? Is it necessary since the relationship was already growing organically? Or is it an exciting way to kick the relationship into gear? Either way, I expect it to be fun.

I’ve only watched the 1st ep so far but I liked it! I also like the points you’ve highlighted here. I’m looking forward to watching the rest of this and in particular Hoon-nam. He seemed so convinced in ep 1 regarding what he believes about himself ….. those beliefs are either going to come tumbling down or they’ll be true but he’ll have to find a way to move forward with Jung-eum regardless. I think he’ll be taken aback no matter what scenario plays out. How he deals with this could potentially be interesting to watch. We’ll see what happens!

I like it. I hated the first two eps, but as it goes on I find it pleasant.

*oops, I mean to type that Hoon-nam (not Eun-min) was irritated when his cousin said Jung-eum didn’t like him. Cos Eun-nim is his mom. Heh.

I really like this more than I expected. I thought I’d drop it or save it for when I wasn’t watching anything else, but it’s a cute show. I mean, it’s not revolutionary, and I’ll probably forget it when it’s over but I’m enjoying it in the moment. It’s so light and fluffy.

I think it helps that the leads have a very easy chemistry with one another and they play off each other well. I can’t wait for Hoon-nam to really admit he’s fallen for Jung-eum in the next few weeks after this week’s ending.

Haven’t watched this weeks’ episodes yet so I haven’t read your analysis, but I am enjoying this drama so far. I’m really craving fluffy dramas without angst atm so it’s hitting everything I need. And though it’s not groundbreaking it’s pretty to watch and I don’t find Hwang Jung-eum overly screechy here. Very animated, yes, but not screechy.

It’s not gonna make my favorites list, but it’s cute and the path to our (predictable) ending isn’t unpredictable enough to be entertaining.

Well said. It’s summer, so we deserve a bit of fluffy entertainment (with an undercurrent of angst because K-drama.)

These last two eps were great, letting Namgoong Min be the weirdo that he is. Of course Jungeum will find out about the bet and that will lead to angst and all that, but before then it should be good.

I’m enjoying it, but not loving it yet. It’s an easy watch.

Am watching and liking it a lot so far, but am having massive eyeroll about the bet. Let’s hope show put it’s own fun spin on this, because so far story-wise it’s quite refreshing. Forced sleepover is nothing new, bonding over planting potato as the reason, tho, that’s new and unapologetically ridiculous ^^
Also, I can’t help noticing how Charlie’s hat harmonises with Joon-so’s shirt & jacket, and that’s just one example. The show is visually very pleasing for me.

I dropped this, but seeing this, I might pick it back up later on. 🙂
