It scared the hell out of me just how eerily similar Mo-yeong’s mom looks like Mo-yeong, especially the childhood version of her we have seen. They have the same hair and style of dressing almost like her mom was grooming her into a mirror image of herself. It makes sense then with how controlling she seemed to be of Mo-yeong. Even the symbolism of Mo-yeong always staring at her reflection in the mirror while her mother brushes her hair realizing how much her reflection looks like her mother. Its so creepy!
The butterfly symbolism makes sense as well in this context since its a mother butterfly carrying a baby on its back similar to how her mother made Mo-yeong so dependant on her. When she said “I’ll take care of my own child” it seemed like she was conditioning Mo-yeong to follow in her own footsteps. And to an extent, that conditioning has followed Mo-yeong into adulthood.
Especially in earlier episodes: hed long hair, clothing, her fixation with sharp objects like her mother, those shoes, and even her red lips and way of talking all seem so eerily similar to her mom! But while her mother looked so soulless and empty, Mo-yeong actually feels vivacious alive and full of feelings or emotions. She’s just bad at expressing them. Its only after she meets Kang-tae again that she learns how to be more expressive and control her anger.
I am wondering if the child she was referring to was Sang-tae, if he was the ugly duckling rejected by his family and adopted by Kang-tae’s mother. If so, MY and ST are actually siblings. That makes the family photo v ironic indeed. Just a thought.
Hmm I’ve seen this idea floating around and it would make sense then why the mom didn’t kill Sang-tae and said the lines she did. But honestly I don’t want them to be blood related. I would rather have the Mo-yeong that cares so deeply about Sang-tae without even being related to him. I like the idea of them being more like siblings than Kang-tae and Sang-tae
I love the unpredictability of this drama and dramas in general. No matter how much I try to second guess them, I am usually left flat-footed. I get what you’d like about this little family, but will the writer be able to resist the twist or will they do something altogether unexpected?
Apart from Kang-tae, Mo-yeong talk with Ju-ri today was the first time I think someone actually heard her say I dont want to see my dad and accepted it as the truth. I hope that was the end of it and we don’t hear yet another person try to guilt trip her into talking to him. She doesn’t need or want that and I’m so very tired of kdramas pushing the filial child narrative!!
Sometimes children are too damn broken and hurt to forgive their parents for their sins. Just because they are sorry about it doesnt mean they deserve forgiveness. If the traumatised and hurt child wants to cling on to their pain and anger as an adult thats their perogative. Would it be better for them to let go of the past so they can heal? Absolutely. But that’s something that has to come from the inside if at all. You can’t push people into forgiving thier parents just because they are old and dying. That type of thing only benefits them not their kids.
And I would add even if they decide to forgive tgeir parents and let go of that lifetime of hurt doesnt mean that theyve forgotten thr lifetime of hurt. Just because youve forgiven someone doesnt mean ylu want to take a walk with them.
That whole sequence with us learning about ajusshi having killed a bunch of people to the bus scene and the whole Vietnam flashback was done so well! He’s such a sweet old man and the way he broke down right after just hurt so much! I love how Sang-tae recognised what was happening and reacted right away by putting him in his own safety blanket like Kang-tae did for him. I just have a lot of feelings about today’s episode.
Ugh i don’t know why that family portrait scene hit me so hard but I’m bawling! Everything from the way Sang-tae practiced looking “normal” like the pictures on his wall, to the way Mo-yeong tells him not to try too hard to mimic that and just be himself because that’s who Moon Sang-tae really is, to the fact that he’s going to be a legitimate illustrator and that Mo-yeong always believed in his skills and him as a person. To how sweetly she looks at him when she tells him lets go take pictures anyways. And how happy they both looked when Kang-tae came in. He’s so broken up about her mom killing his but he loves her and recognizes this isn’t her fault. The old Kang-tae would have shut down and run away. But he’s here and ready to face it with her. I donno i just feel so sad about that family portrait. They may not be related but these they found each other and the trio is a family and I just 😭😭😭
Honestly, thank fuck I’m under lockdown and broke because otherwise I would have tried to buy everything Mo-yeong has ever worn or bought! Girl has the best fashion choices! I loved her the dresses in today’s episode. Plus, I want all the quirky things she has at home. Like the fountain pens she uses, or the letter opener. Even that one type writer in the corner. This drama is catering to me personally and I feel attacked!
She has the most amazing wardrobe. I covet everything, including her nightgowns. My absolute favorite has been the white Zimmermann dress that she wore in episodes 4 to 5. Even the styling, with the makeup and the side braid, is on point. She’s so damn gorgeous.
I loved that white dress! She has such a beautiful frame everything looks lovely on her! I’ve been dying to get her black shoes from ep 1 where she’s eating at that restaurant.
The way Kang-tae looks at the allowance money, Sang-tae reassuring him he’ll give him more if he runs out. We know Kang-tae is never spending that money. He’s going to save it like his fav treasure!😥
Lmao this is reminding me of Jang Nara’s drama Baby Faced Beauty where Daniel choi is her boss and doesn’t know how old she is and later when he finds out she’s a noona things get awkward as all hell! 😅
Kang-tae’s au happy dream where he, Sang-tae, and Mo-yeaong are just three people free from their trauma leading normal everyday lives free from the drama is so wholesome. He just wants to be ordinary
You can tell Sang-tae learned to be a big brother from Kang-tae (who probably learned it from their mom). The way he called to ask if Kang-tae had eaten. The way he took him to the restursnt and cut up his food and gave him a napkin and shared food with him. The way he paid for the meal and asked if he was full. These are all things Kang-tae has been doing for his brother this whole time. But now seeing his hyung take care of him the same way he took care of his brother just makes it all the more special. These brothers love each other so much it hurts! 😭😭😭
I was sooo proud of Sang-Tae!
And definitely very proud of Gang-Tae too. Glad he had a real fight with his brother, expressing all the feelings he had repressed for so long; hitting and kicking back, screaming that he wants an older brother! My heart…
yes! And how happy he looked in the aftermath! Jesu definitely thinks he’s weird but this is what he’s always wanted: to have a normal sibling dynamic. He just wants to be brothers with his hyung not a caretaker or a parent
If you don’t get permission we can’t be together boyyyy why you acting coy??? Who is this teasing flirty Kang-tae and what have you done to him Mo-yeong???
That whole lunch scene with hyung cutting up his meat for him and giving him food from his plate and the way Kang-tae’s face just breaks into the most gentle smiles he’s so fucking happy to be treated like a dongseng and having his brother take care of him. And then when he gave him allowance money and paid for fbe meal?? Ughhhh I’m crying!! When Kang-tae says he’s so full his stomach might burst you know he means his heart is full of love for his brother! Seeing his brother make that effort I’m just so emotional right now!!
