Beanie level: Noble idiot

I almost didn’t watch this show. I was turned off by the title because it reminded me of Eun-tak calling Kim Shin “Ajusshi” in this cringy, aegyo voice 🤮. I wasn’t also sure of IU’s acting and the sypnosis just seemed so bleak and boring. “This isn’t my type of show,” I said. I don’t know exactly what made me watch the show. Maybe it was fate to see that Sondia OST in my YT recommended videos and click on it, maybe I was moved by the love some beanies showed in the fan wall, or maybe I was just really bored but I watched the first episode, then the second, and then the third. Hook, line, and sinker – I fell in love with My Ajusshi. Yes, it is bleak and utterly sad but the characters were never pathetic. They were both good and bad, strong and weak. They were human. And it comforted me. It made me reflect on myself. It made me cry my eyes out every single episode. It made me smile when they’re happy.
Kudos to the actors for delivering a stellar performance. IU gave life to Lee Ji-an. Never did I feel like it’s IU playing a role. And Lee Sun-kyun, what should I say, he just deserves Best Actor for this. A job well done to the director and writer as well, the pillars of this show. Someone should give them the Daesang award! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Am I sad now that it’s over? Of course. But somehow, I don’t feel empty. I don’t have that WHAT NOW 😐 feeling I usually get when I finish a good show. I will miss My Ajusshi on my screen but in my heart, ep 16 isn’t the ending, or an ending for that matter because as I see it, they will continue living on with their lives, moving forward and finding happiness along the way. Maybe together, maybe not.

I love him to be honest LOL.. SO refreshing as a villain. And unintentionally funny haha

    2
    1

Haha.. same. He is a refreshing character. I like that the writer never make him over-the-top. He is sly enough that we can see how he got promoted so quickly, but he also has his vulnerable moments that make him human. And his inferiority complex toward Dong-hoon is very interesting to watch.

      2
      1

Yess… I agree with you. The writers is humanize JY character alot. What a villain even telling the truth the feeling Of our female lead in front of our hero instead of lying to break them apart?😄😅😂. I just laugh at his honesty. He doesn’t has intention to bring them down, since he feels it’s not even benefit him in the long run. even feels scares when hearing Ji An will kill anyone who try to harm Dong Hoon, bcause he is not even think to such length.

Why, oh frickin why, did I have to marathon the 12 episodes of My Ajusshi now? It’s so darn good that everything just pales in comparison. I still love me some Poetry and Switch but I’m just not as excited to watch those two as I was before My Ajusshi happened.

we just said the same thing!!! hahahahahahaha!

      Yey! #twinning 🙀

Ji-an is really quick-witted tho during the interview (ep12) 👏🏼👏🏼 She already has an idea of what the opposition will ask (they’re going for the scandal route) so she answered in a way that is both honest and puts Dong-hoon on a good light.

I’m the same – but from watching LIVE.

Now I might just have to watch My Ajusshi while I wait for Friday when the next 2 eps of LIVE are subbed

There’s this easy, natural chemistry between Do-chan and Ha-ra that Joon-soo and Ha-ra lacks even though Ha-ra is so in love with him. It’s so weird because it’s literally the same two actors acting. Jang Geun-seok is killing it though with differentiating Do-chan and Joon-soo.

Ah yes, that difference of talking to someone you can be yourself with vs. being with someone you admire too much. Even if they look identical.

I agree: JGS is killing it. But I think that Han Ye-ri is too! These two are surprisingly awesome together.

    5
    1

Yes, HYR is doing a great job too! She’s acting and reacting differently depending on which character JGS is playing. Like she always has this idolised look whenever she’s with Joon-soo but she’s very teasing when she’s with Do-chan.

      1
      1

Second that. I don’t remember seing Ye-ri before. But Ha-ra has this girlish energy and charm whenever she is with Doo-chan. And she is having too much fun for a prosecutor (stating the obvious).

Soo-ji is toxic. Se-joo and Shi-hyun are enabling her. Tae-hee fell too fast. Not shipping any loveline. Joy’s acting is still green. And the editing is still confusing.

Yet, I’m still tuning in, like a moth to a flame. There’s a lot of warning signs hinting that this show is going to frustrate the hell out of me, but I stay. Why? Must be Woo Do-hwan. 😎😎

You said everything I’m thinking! Everything!

I’ll add: the adult chaebols are boring as heck.

If it weren’t for Woo Do-hwan I know I would have dropped this by now. And I don’t think he’s enough alone to keep me watching. We’ll see.

    6
    1

the adult acting is awkward, I feel like they are in another drama

    3
    2

It’s so strange. Usually the veterans are reliable, but I don’t even remember seeing Soo-ji’s mom or Shi-hyun’s dad on my screen before. I have seen Tae-hee’s mom before, though, and don’t recall ever having been blown away or anything.

Yes! Like, a B-film or what.

Thank goodness The Great Seducer will be recapped! I don’t need the whole microanalysis, I just need a weecap to help me understand who the hell these chaebols are, their relationships with each other and the whole politics-shebang (although I don’t really care for that).

Real life (and by that I meant studies) has finally given me a break 🎉🎉 Watched The Great Seducer and I\’m hooked! I\’m probably the only one who doesn\’t ship Soo-ji and Shi-hyun tho😁😁

Hwayugi’s ending felt like breaking up with a long-term boyfriend because he realized he doesn’t want the same things as you do. I felt really betrayed. I didn’t invest my 20hrs+ for this.

I’m still in disbelief. They had one hour to end the show nicely and what the hell did they do with it. *downs one shot*

It felt like an oldschool western, driving into the sunset, alone.
But why? So inconsistent with his personality.

My initial reaction was “THAT’S IT?!” Hong sisters are probably like, “You think we’ll give you a happy ending? Here’s an open ending for you, suckers!” Where’s my wedding and my monkey babies, show? This finale week feels like a cheap, knock-off version of Goblin, ughh.

      2
      1

Ahh, thanks for the reminder about wedding and monkey babies. Guess the writers didn’t think of that. *Adds to my imaginary ending SOBS*

If one really has to die, who would you prefer it to be? Oh-gong or Sun-mi? 🤔🤔
#Hwayugi

SunMi, providing she becomes a deity for it.
Though frankly OhGong may become frighteningly unhinged if she’s gone forever.

    2
    1

I have the same answer just because I want this Sam Jang curse to be over already. Sun-mi seriously has had enough. Really hope she gets rewarded for all this nonsense the heaven put her through.

      2
      1

So I went to wiki the ending of the original journey to the west and here goes:

Chapter 100, the last of all, quickly describes the return journey to the Tang Empire, and the aftermath in which each traveller receives a reward in the form of posts in the bureaucracy of the heavens. Sun Wukong (Monkey) and Xuanzang (monk) achieve Buddhahood, Sha Wujing (Sandy) becomes an arhat, the dragon horse is made a nāga, and Zhu Bajie (Pig), whose good deeds have always been tempered by his greed, is promoted to an altar cleanser (i.e. eater of excess offerings at altars).

        1
        1

Although the heavens is not exactly an employer of choice in this show, but i’ll take it if it means our 503 couple can live happily ever after! COME ON SHOW!

          1
          0

Sun Mi, because there is the possibility of reincarnation. Though I hate it when they do that, and Oh-gong would lose his shit and wreak some major havoc, so that is probably not best case scenario.

    2
    1

😰😰 Reincarnation disappoints me. And it would be too much like Goblin’s ending so I hope they don’t go there.

      3
      0

I’m scared to think what SOG would be like if Sunmi dies, but then is there a chance she becomes a deity or something?

    1
    1

What if Sun-mi gets to be a deity as a reward from heaven but Oh-gong died protecting her? That’s the perfect reversal of the previous protector’s love story.

      2
      2

        Unacceptable ending.

        3
        3

          +1
I mean, Sunmi has suffered for a long time, and these 2 have not have any breaks.

          2
          1

I don’t know how Sun-mi does it. Her life is so painful and suffocating. So the heaven owes her a big fat happy ending

            4
            0

          Haha I agree, really unacceptable!
I’m actually enumerating all the possible crappy endings the writers may give us in my head, and the scenario above might just be the worst. I’d rather have both of them die (still unacceptable) than watch one die while the other suffers.

          3
          1

This is the ending that better happen: Sun-mi becomes a goddess as a reward for putting up with heaven’s wack-a-doodle crap for so long. Goddess Sun-mi marries Oh-gong. The new power couple goes on their honeymoon in Japan where they make the first of many cheeky and mischievous children who will spend all of eternity tormenting their father and Ma-wang.

            5
            0

          Totally unacceptable.

          1
          0

Sort of a reversal, but it doesn’t circumvent the death bell fate, and I feel like having fate happen anyway is the worst ending.
I feel like a lot of this drama is geared towards twisting fate to us instead of being weakly following its whims.

        1
        0

strange tho that if Heaven so wants someone killed and they give Oh Gong such a powerful sword but none of them think of getting rid of the evil human shaped donut across the border.

    3
    1

I know! Why can’t they just kill the evil candidate and burn Asanyeo already? Because it’s too easy?

      2
      1

I think it’s because they’re waiting for three big bad demon to appear. And he probably would anyway, if he’s created by human evil, so it’s better to keep the strongest magnet alive as bait.
As for the priestess, though, let her rot, please. She is just irritating.

        1
        0

Errr – Sun Mi cos her Sam Jang Spirit will die and her Sun Mi spirit will attain goddess-hood for cultivating her essence for so many years of service.

    2
    0

Her teary eyes suggest that she knows he’s lying about what happened to the previous protector and SamJang. She can see the future now so does she know already who’s gonna die?
#Hwayugi #ep16

This baby looks so much like Oh-gong! He wasn’t supposed to be born yet according to the previous guardian so will he be Oh-gong and Sun-mi’s future child together?

9
2

That’d be cute! Lots of little monkey demon babies running around, they’re gonna have their hands full.

(Also I love his reaction when everyone kept implying it was his kid).

someone theorized it could be uri oh gong’s reincarnation:/

DId the previous guardian love the previous Sam Jang too? Is that why she wants to die?
#Hwayugi #ep16

With that hot but still icky bed scene tainted by Asanyeo’s presence, the writers now owe us (and probably Oh-gong too) a HOTTER and LONGER bed scene with the true OTP.
