After contemplating for many years, I’ve decided to try watching Misaeng. I’m currently watching the last episodes. OMG, this is so good❤️! Better late than never, I guess😆.

I just finished the last episode today and wrote my review. I can’t believe it took me so long to watch it, I nearly missed out on a quality drama. The writing and acting knocked it out the park. I get why veteran beanies talk about a clear shift in the quality of dramas, as these days they are beautifully presented but lack depth and consistent writing and acting. I would say Chief Kim, Healer, and Reply 1988 are all examples, like Miseang, of 20 episode dramas often with almost film length episodes, that do not have unnecessary filler and tell complete stories.

I’m so glad you liked it!
It’s a wonderful drama. In fact, it’s among my Top 5.

I am going to have to start reassessing my top 10 now as I have some new dramas I want to add but I don’t know if I can release any old favourites.

      4
      2

I know, right? Ten is a short number, I think there will be some ties between dramas to keep all my favorite shows in the Top 😅

That’s a great idea fitting twenty into the top ten would be great!

I have a top ten and top twenty five and it’s slowly becoming a top fifty as it’s hard to give a fun low level watch that brought me joy at the time but is not likely to be a rewatch or win any prizes no recognition in the ranking. I do wonder now I have seen more of the classics if I can still rate my fun watches of my early days of K drama watching so high. I think I will because they are a different type of drama. That would be my preferred ranking system; top tens by genre and then top ten overall.

Oh I hadn’t read this before I posted my comment below! Obviously you were many steps before me..

It might be easier if you think about doing the top 25 dramas.

        3
        1

Yes I struggled from the start because a lot of light dramas brought me joy and that was what I needed at the time so it felt unfair to then through them off my list when I saw a proper classic like Misaeng.

          4

I have this struggle when rating dramas too. Every time I really enjoyed a light series I wondered if I could give it as high a rating as something with more scope and depth. Over time I got tired of the mental debate and just decided that I would rate things on how they made me feel and how much I enjoyed them. It was a relief, actually! Ahh, the dilemmas of watching an excessive amount of k-dramas 😂

            @zindigo

I rate exactly like that. I admit my way of rating is 100% subjective.

I am going to divide my list into categories because then I can have Matchmakers as the top fusion sageuk and Twinkling Watermelon as my top youth drama. This means the fight can be between Twinkling Watermelon and 25,21 in their category and not have to squeeze it in with Reply 1988, Hospital Playlist and Miseang. I also think I can then look at the top 3 in each category and decide on which goes into my overall top ten.
@isagc @zindigo it is our top ten after all so let’s make it work for us.

In the photo, you’ll so many talents there. I always regard Misaeng as one show that the cast is full of talents. They all continue to do extremely well in projects after the show ended, too.

Is he in the pic? Yes he is.
Misaeng memory. I came late to tvN’s MISAENG: INCOMPLETE LIFE (2014) (Netflix) and started watching in the fall of 2019.
I know this because I watched simultaneously WHEN THE CAMELLIA BLOOMS (2019) (Netflix). I was well into MISAENG before I realized Kang Ha-neul was playing uptight Jang Baek-ki who was 180 degrees from KHN’s Yong Shik in CAMELLIA. Might as well been two difference actors. I could only find one tiny similarity between the two characters and that was the way they pursed their lips.

There was no wonder why that year our KHN won Best Actor at Baeksang 🤗. His Yong-shik was outstanding. Just splendid acting there.

      3
      1

Indeed. I enjoyed KHN’s special appearance in KBS’s RIVER (2021), his bromance with Kang Young-seok in JTBC’s INSIDER (2022) and his actor/conman in KBS’s CURTAIN CALL (2022). Three different roles he handled beautifully.

I watched Misaeng in autumn 2022 (I had started watching dramas in the end of 2021).
I already knew Kang Ha Neul because I had watched him before in Camellia (he was the best in that drama) and Monstar (a highschool/musical drama by the same director as Misaeng).

I always say that Baek-gi (Kang Ha Neul in Misaeng) is the Korean Clark Kent πŸ™‚

Misaeng is beyond great – its position as my top 5 Kdrama hasn’t changed since it aired in 2014.

Decided to try Turkish drama for the very first time after having K-Drama slump. Omooo~I’m falling in love with this❤️Siyah Beyaz Ask❤️.But seriously 2 hours+per ep plus 30+ ep per drama?I’m crying😭

That a proper film each episode, how do the writers keep up the quality and surely that’s spending a whole day with the characters. Let us know at the end if the quality went down hill and how long the period of time was covered they could do a couple of years! How many times is it on a week? I guess that no different to a daily drama thats 25-30 mins a day x 5 days a week for 100+ episodes.

    1
    1

Yeahh, I guess it’s like weekend drama with story coverage for all the characters. Because this is my first time watching Turkish and you know, without checking the number of episodes, I thought it will be 16 or 20 ep like K Drama 😅. Haha, but it’s too late to withdraw bcause I’m already hooked 😆😆.

What a coincidence, I’m watching it too and its my first Turkish outing!
Disney+ currently has 49 episodes (of 50 minutes each, which I believe is close to 17 episodes of the original run).
It took me a while to get into it, and now I can’t wait for the rest to be uploaded. So in a way, I’m glad there’s so much to watch. πŸ₯²
I love the main leads, and their chemistry is off the charts.
Can I ask where you’re watching it?

Really? Haha, what a coincidence🤜🤛. I love the main leads too🥰. Their acting is soooo natural not to talk about the chemistry between them. Arghh, I don’t know, I just love them..haha😆😆..I’m watching it on Turkish 123 if you don’t mind.

Yes, their acting is so good…made me check out their other works, and what do you know, they’ve acted again together! Also are good friends in real life, taking trips together.

Sorry for the late reply. If you ask me, I would say that I’m enjoying this show more than I thought. It has flaws and the plot drive me crazy sometimes, haha. But you should give it a try. You know, after all we have ehem2 (Kim Bum) here 😂😉
