Frankly Speaking ep. 6: The dating show concept is trite (especially after the stinkers that were Love is For Suckers and Oh! Youngshim) but I like this show enough that I’m willing to put up with it.
I think the most delightful thing about Ki-baek’s disinhibition is what it means romantically. When one party speaks so candidly, it makes the conversations so much more refreshing than usual. I’m hoping they go somewhere good with it.
I could also do without the two guys fighting over a girl YET AGAIN, especially when they seemed to be such good friends in the past (I am getting flashbacks to the truly awful All That We Loved) but if that and the conflict between Woo-ju and Ha-young can be resolved in a satisfying way then I’ll be fine with that as well.
His mild disinhibition is also delightfully subversive in a context where some of the norms of the modern Korean and certain aspects of the dominant hierarchical cultural mores emphasise nunchi as being extremely important to social cohesion.
