Everyone and their families should all be watching!

And with that Dad Li line, I will not reply anymore to the thread below this.

Beanies, I got really stressed because of the family fights in Episode 1. Is there a lot of angst in this show? I did like Daddy Li and would love to be fed at his noodle restaurant too, but I can’t stomach stressful scenes.

I know what you mean Toki. I guess this is hard watch but I found myself binging all available episodes at once cuz it’s just so heartwarming. This show is being promoted as a healing drama, so it’s about two boys who had found their home in the Li’s residence. I watch this family heal each other’s wounds and recover from pain of their past.

Ep 2 is when it grabbed my heart cuz that’s when the babies started settling in at the thought that they would be in each other’s lives forever with Daddy Li. 🥰🥰🥰🥰

Anyways I hope I’m not setting myself up for disappointment for loving this series too much early in the game 😣😣😣😣😣😣

It’s so heartwarming. @13infamyss was right when she called it similar to the reply series. One minute I’m crying, the other I’m laughing out loud but I’m so satisfied by every episode.

I’ve been watching this too. It’s a terrific cast all around, down to the supporting members. But I’m a little concerned about the near-incest kind of relationship that the show is heading towards. Makes me a little uncomfortable, TBH.

    5
    1

I’m quite far behind but this makes me uncomfortable too however, I just reminding myself that they aren’t related by birth and well just grew up together but their bond has been shown (at least in the earlier episodes) as true siblings.

      3
      1

It does not bother me actually. While growing up as children they do talk about marriage as a joke and very casually. You can also see how their relationship is changing/evolving.
And one of the boys is technically a neighbor.
The three kids form a bond after having endured some sufferings at a young age. They grow up as family and are very protective of each other. It’s a story about how these kids grow up, become an adult and how their relationship evolves as they enter the real world. (So far up to episode 14).

It’s also cultural I think. While growing up I called all boys who are older than me as brothers , but once I crossed an age I shifted to calling them by name.

The show really addresses this very nicely so far. But again, I didn’t feel uncomfortable to start with.

        5
        1

Hm. So yes, in my neck of the woods too, an older male friend would be called by a term which is the equivalent of ‘brother’, and yes, that changes with time. The terminology is not what affects me as much as the changing nature of the relationship does. The sibling-to-romantic-partner evolution is something I need to wrap my head around, and I am worried it will destabilize the quite charming found family dynamic and momentum they all have going right now.

I intend to keep watching, of course. I have admittedly enjoyed it so far. And having some really solid actors definitely helps.

I am looking to see if the (non)mothers have a more key role in their adulthood. I find it especially interesting that both the parents of both the boys are alive, but they regard Papa Li as their father 🙂

          3
          3

I understand. While I don’t see an issue with Ling Xiao and Jian Jian going to the romance route (they’re literally just childhood bestfriends to lovers in my eyes), I think I will be most appalled and disappointed if they chose to write Zi Qiu’s character as part of a love triangle. In my mind, he is a Li. He shares the same dad with Jian Jian and he and Jian Jian are legit siblings. I hope Zi Qiu’s character would focus more on accepting and healing than romance since he’s the one who feels like he doesn’t have a family he belongs to most (I mean he loves his Li family so much, but he did grow up while adults kept telling him he should be forever be indebted to Daddy Li).

            5
            0

@13infamyss Yes! It would be way more worse with Zi Qiu than with Ling Xiao. Zi Qiu needs to get it into his head that he really and truly does belong with and to Papa Li and Jian Jian, and nothing can ever change that, whatever the neighbourhood aunties might tell him. The scene between him and Papa Li was really well done. Steven Zhang is a good crier on screen!, I didn’t realise that until now – probably better than his other two co-stars in the show. (he didn’t have too much crying to do as Bing Bing or in MHF, the other two shows of his I have watched till now).

            2
            0

Yes. He’s such a good actor. You see Steven in this show and there’s just a pang in your heart. And the way he made Zi Qiu come to life and connect to you is just……. amazing. It also helps that Zi Qiu’s child actor was great and it help Steven to transition Zi Qiu’s character from a elementary to a highschool boy smoothly. The way they portrayed Zi Qiu’s character is consistent. They’re both amazing actors.

Steven can switch to light and serious roles easily. Well he makes it look easy. I love him for it.😭

Episode 5 remains my most favourite episode so far. SPOILER! How Steven tears up in the background yet at the same time not stealing the spot from Daddy Li as he expressed his reserved thoughts towards outsiders.😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

            3
            0

I call him “Papa Li”, and he should adopt me, or be my father-in-law. 😀
Easily, to me, he won titles of Fvorite character of the show and Best dad ever on C-drama, just in the first 2 eps!!!

    4
    2

I felt that he’s less a ‘Papa’, and almost ‘maternal’, really, in the conventional sense. Not just in his actions, but also in the way his character is sketched – he cooks the food, his is the welcoming house where everyone gathers, he is the nurturer, he is the worrier, and the emotional support for the children.

      5
      2

Yes. He is perfect. 😭 How to love him more each episode

        3
        0

I think he’s not that “maternal” in terms of raising kids, as Asian moms are more interfering, thus give their children way less space and freedom.
Even though he’s less a “Papa” than Papa Ling (who is a good dad as well, but more of a “traditional standard”), Papa Li uses his gentle words and kindness to treat the kids, and he speaks wisdom that always get to their hearts. ^^

A Very Important PSA Regarding @13infamyss.

15
42

I must let you guys know that I absolutely love sleep; bedtime is my favorite time! It\’s also a known fact that my Zzz\’s Monster is a creature that has won 99% of its battles in my whole life. And yesterday, it was attacked. By whom, you may ask?

Well, a week back, the chaos (cdrama) channel Beanies and I started a new drama called The Romance of Tiger and Rose (a light and fluffy watch, by the way.) The male lead is played by Ryan Ding (or Ding Yuxi.) So last night, it just so happened that a FMV of one of his older dramas popped up in @13infamyss\’s Youtube recommendations. So to stay true to the chaos channel\’s name, four of us decided to watch said drama (@outofthisworld, @pinklolipop, Famy, and me.)

The drama is titled Reset Life (or Future Secrets on iqiyi which provided the funniest automated machine English translations. The subs were utterly terrible but that\’s a nightmare for Famy to tell. Like seriously, they subbed \”phyranx\” every time a character made the sound \”mn.\” Like what??? I digress.) It was a short drama, comprised of five episodes with a 40 min. length, so none of us really knew what to expect. And that, really worked in our favor.

The story is about a girl who got a chance to go back in time to fix her framed history–nothing special, right? However, it was executed (minus last minute PPL but that actually made me laugh and one minor editing quirk I had a problem with) so well that it stole our hearts. Specifically, Ryan stole our hearts.
And I finished the whole drama in one…laying (I was in bed) and didn\’t sleep until 3 am. So with my heart stolen, what can a girl do the next day but make gifs?

So here are all 20 gifs that I made from this little gem of a drama 🙂

Ryan is gorgeous and so is Ying Ying.

Yes, they are handsome and beautiful but it’s not just the looks. Many dramas and actors fail in this aspect when it comes to romance. You can’t just put a handsome or pretty face and make the audience swoon(although there’s one mega kdrama airing now which is an example). You need good actors who have “honey dripping from their eyes”. This is exactly what Ryan delivered in this show. Using flashbacks in right doses and timing, through his actions we saw how his character fell in love with the FL. Ryan said it all in his eyes, little smiles, happy grins and delighted big smiles.

You don’t need a man to call you his queen, you just need one who looks at you like you are his whole world.

      6
      2

Ohhhh E! Thank you for your words and I couldn’t agree more with all you said!

I loved how they’re all newbie actors but they all delivered well!

I just started The Romance of Tiger and Rose and I’m loving the drama – I like that they don’t take themselves seriously, it’s just fluff (so far) which suits my current mood. I wasn’t enamoured by Ryan Ding when I first clapped my eyes on him but boy, he does grow on you. So does this mean I have to watch Reset Life? Stat?

    6
    2

I feel you! At first, we were all “ehhhh” about him and then fell for him as soon as he fell for Qian Qian. Now we’re just complete goners for him.
And yes! You most definitely should watch Reset Life, or just try it at least (Ryan starts appearing more in ep. 2, fyi.) Or, you could wait until Monday and Tuesday are over so you can fill up the rest of your week while waiting for new TROFAR episodes. I hope you enjoy it!

Reset Life is a must watch. Not only because swooooooony Ryan is there but because it’s such a great heartfelt series. Story is told and delivered well in 5 episodes. Ignore the horrible subs on iqiyi and it’s a wonderful show!!!

Thank you baby for posting this. Good things must be shared.

This drama was completely off the radar. No big names although I suspect Ryan’s rising popularity might have more people searching for his dramas now, just like we did.

When I read the premise, I thought it was nothing new but as you’ve said, it is all in the execution and of course – story. I was further surprised that this was a drama specifically written for rookie actors who were in the final selection for a variety/talent show. I am impressed with the cast!

The PPLs made me laugh and didn’t bother me because when a drama is good, I don’t gripe about PPLs. The ending was meaningful despite that editing bit which again was barely a blip because the message that the secret of being happy is treasuring the present, is always true.

I personally think there’s nothing “new” with genres anymore. When I read that this was about time travelling, I said “it’s time travelling, I don’t care. I`m watching for Ryan and his swoooony eyes and sneaky smiles”. But my take away from this drama was surprisingly way more than that! Such an underrated gem!

Drama these days are definitely more on the execution now:
-scriptwriting (how to refine details and respect your characters that connect you to the viewers)
-directing (how to shoot the scenes, the angles, the actors’ expressions that deliver well to the viewers)
-and acting (how to make your characters come to life and have your viewers related to them).

And this drama nailed all of those in 5 episodes! It wasn’t too long nor too short.

      5
      1

Many C dramas would benefit from a reduced episode count. They were good but meandered or worse, derailed. With lesser episodes, we get tighter story telling with no fillers and unnecessary things.

I hope that our friend-chips will never end because I’m shellfish and you guys are totally my jam. This is so cheesy, but y’all are truly grate. Olive you guys—pho real—from from head tomatoes.

I have a terrible memory. Ninety-nine percent of my childhood that I know of is purely from stories and old photographs.

They said: you used to love climbing trees and could stay up there all day.
Well, my grandparents did own a lychee farm so that seems plausible.

They said: you had a best friend who would give you free ice cream from his mother’s shop.
I do love ice cream. Maybe that’s why I liked him?

They said: you had a lovely teacher who couldn’t bear to waking you up from nap time and helped you tie your shoes.
Even now, sleep mostly still loves me and I refuse to tie my shoelaces when they come undone.

They handed me crinkled, laminated pictures with no real answers to my questions:
Who was that shirtless boy (No, he was not Ice Cream Boy) standing next to me?
What was I wearing (Those frills were a sight to behold)?
When did I ever go there?
Where did those toys go?
How did our preschool class performance (I was a bee!) win second out of all the different grades?

I might never know if those stories were true or not. I might never know the answers to my queries. I might never know. But that’s okay. I’ll just appreciate the these moments in the present a teeny bit more.

Love, February~💛

P.S., that pixie cut should not be attempted again, future bea.

Day 3.

I’m currently in Mr. P’s class and thought of an endearing expression he would always say.
To all you beanies, “you are a special person.”
Also, he also told us that if you’re feeling a bit blue, don’t forget that according to the Physics of the Law of Attraction, everyone is attracted to you (and you’re attracted to them too but that doesn’t really matter here)!

Love (physics), February~💛

“See Sica Date”

Episode One:
Reply from a Not So Savvy Ziggy

12
90

    Annyeong!
    I’m Seo In-Guk.
Yesterday, I was just chilling outside, basking in the warm sunlight like one usually would.

Then, a *ping* went off my phone and it was the best news I’ve had in days.

    To: Seo In-Guk
    From: Bea
    Subject: A new match

    Hello Seo In-guk Ssi,
I believe our company has found a new match for you! Would you be willing to meet her tomorrow for a little date?
    Yours truly,
Royal Matchmaker of the Kingdom of Melonia
    Bea

To say I was ecstatic is an understatement. I immediately replied saying I would available anytime tomorrow and it was all set in the matter of minutes.
What a great employee, I thought to myself.
I was given no information about the girl besides the fact she would be wearing at least one thing in pink and that her name was Sicarius.
Sicarius…isn’t that the name of a queen of some faraway kingdom? Maybe she just happens to have the same name, I thought to myself.
Thinking past her name, I spent some time imagining—not what she could look like—but what pink article of clothing would she end up wearing. A pink shirt? Maybe she would be more into pink pantsuits? Fanny packs? The possibilities were endless and before I knew it, it was already time for bed. Everything in my dream was pink that evening.
