Beanie level: Noble idiot

(The post that got deleted:)
[Possible Sp0ilers Ahead!]
Anyway, I hope the writer and director of this show are doing okay…because I’M NOT! Took violence to a new level.
Didn’t even give my boy Yeol a chance to survive smh.

    Great! It works now.

To say that I was not expecting what happened in that car scene would be an understatement…

I think my favorite part of #OnetheWoman\’s premiere was easily that last cameo. It was total fan service but I was all for it. Not sure what\’s better: the cameos or that I got all the references 😁

Does anyone know where I can find information on Korean script formatting (for dramas and movies)? I found some abbreviations I am not familiar with. Shoutout to the usual experts @sicarius @leetennant

Hey, @sicarius, I just realized the reason for my I/W was staring me right in the face this entire time. It was \”Sp0iler alert\”

Now I can\’t edit my posts…great 🙂

Editing wall posts is… unfortunately not a very successful feature. I tend to delete and repost, because often editing screws up the post formatting or even deletes the whole post.
If the post is over 200 characters, you CAN’T edit, as the hack to get past 200 characters only works if you paste into the text box- you can’t edit after pasting it either, or it will revert back to 200 char- same happens upon after-post editing.

I was going to post about how the website actually kept me signed in today but now I can\’t paste my long posts anymore…
I knew it was too good to be true 😑

If you can’t work with the system, beat the system 😇.

    How’d that actually work though…

P.S. if anyone can figure out what’s inappropriate in the post, please let me know. I’m very invested.

Have you checked the D.P. eps 1-2 review here on DB? There are lots of thoughtful comments there. Personally, I really liked it despite the uncomfortableness because the message was so important–and well-conveyed.

    2
    1

I actually haven’t seen the review yet, but I will. I did enjoy the show. The acting was really good, the storyline was tight, and it was even funny at times.
I just remember not knowing what to do with myself at the end. I went in on an impulse and, honestly, I was expecting some action, hoping for some comedy, and thinking it would be a slice of life drama, but it was a lot more than that. It had a lot of impact, and I got hit hard lol.

      1

I watched it and am incredibly impressed, the acting was amazing.

I\’m trying to make a post about D.P. but whatever robot is monitoring the site won\’t let me. The most inappropriate word in my post was hormone 😑

Please what counts as an inappropriate word on dramabeans bc I’m really curious.

I’m not sure there’s a list anywhere. I know that some of them don’t make much sense.

@sicarius is my expert on this.

The IW feature is to reduce spam and bots, but it can cause problems for the average user.
There is no definite list, other than what I have personally compiled, and it can change depending on what suddenly becomes less of an issue, or alternatively, more of a user one- e.g. First used to be one, but was changed, in part because of the Drama Because This Life is our First (wouldn’t do to have a drama airing that physically can’t be talked about).
Spoiler is no longer one, but it used to be; spoi-ler-alert is still one
No swear words that I know of are, but social-ist, social-ism, (and also with zeros) and special-ist are.

I don’t know who @mary‘s replacement is so I can’t even suggest someone to tag other than db-staff, for help.

I have often found that weird formatting, like dashes or slashes or combinations with certain emojis, can cause an I/W moment, but they’re weird and irregular.

In the past I have made test posts, and broken down the piece I’m writing, in halves and pieces, until I find the I/W, and then either changed it, or posted it with a number or dash (as seen above).

Hope this helps somewhat and let me know if you have any more questions!

      2

It’s a mystery to all and strikes at the weirdest times. See Sic’s post for some detail. I imagine the hormone you’re referring to is the subject of a number of bot attacks.

I did it. I gave Reply 1997 a chance. And I loved it! The characters were cute and interesting but I already knew that from my first attempt. What got me into the show was all the META. The show went hard on the meta and I absolutely loved it. Eun Ji Won watching his own movie as a \’90s high schooler\’ and commenting on it\’s terrible acting – his words not mine but I agree – while his show girlfriend fangirls and squeals over movie him (are you following this?) is now one of my favorite kdrama scenes. Despite the (rather impressive) amount of dramas and movies under my belt, I am still a kdrama baby, unfortunately, so it took me a lot of research to figure out the connections and Korean 90s inside jokes but it was very much worth it. It was nicely written and the whole will they – won\’t they angst thing the show had going on was only occasionally slightly annoying. Thank you @spazmo for the nudge. I loved it. Yelling, swearing, teen romance, angst, frog scares, meta and all.

I don\’t know why law school tried to do a big reveal on the \”Big Bad\”. I\’m assuming we all already knew who it was – right? I mean what kind of self-respecting k-drama villain is only responsible for 1 murder?

2
1

    Right?!
We already knew he’s involved with the way he’s trying to pin the murder on Prof Yang.

Oh I saw I Remember You during my SIG binge and I added that to the list of SIG shows that just don\’t make sense to me.

I just realized that Jung So Min is 32… Why has she been 26 in my mind all these years???

Okay back to the craziness of law school

Thinking about it now I guess it makes sense because the show kept establishing that they\’re a set that could only go together but still…was not necessary. ESPECIALLY NOT IN THE LAST FIVE MINUTES!

My heart goes out to all the people that watched A Hundred Million Stars from the Sky live just for it to end like that. I was speechless. I cried. And I’m gonna be mad about it for a long time.

I watched it live and… thank you… it was heart wrenching and maddening. I was in a kdrama daze for a whiiiiiiiiiiiile !

I think I\’ll go back to Louie for a bit or just head over to King of high school to continue my SIG binge. I just can\’t with A Million Stars rn.

I remember it being a hard watch.

I bounced around other SIG shows then came back for some closure, and to see what all the fuss was about. I don’t regret it. It was worth it for his acting alone, but I still feel very cheated.

So I started watching The Smile Has Left Your Eyes on a whim tonight and from what I\’ve heard about the show, I\’m either depressed or I hate myself 🙃

    Or you love SIG.

    4
    2

SIG is amazing in it. Truly extraordinary. And from a production standpoint it’s a great show. It’s just the script that’s terrible.

      4
      2

Is he ever bad in anything? 🙂 But just for curiosity, why is it terrible? I think it’s the first ep I liked in a long time, despite the FL being too much of a Candy maybe, is that your reason? I like knowing why people dislike something I like kkk.

        2
        3

He’s never really bad at anything but he’s especially good at being bad.

          3
          2

100% one of the best at being bad which is why I’m watching it. I saw him in the first two episodes of Doom at your Service and that pushed me over the edge. Had to get my fix 😁

            2
            0

Yup @loisom I’m also liking him a lot in Doom. But as @leetennant said he’s basically been his best in TSHLYE even if I just watched a few episodes, I haven’t seen much of an equally powerful performance in dramaland.

            3

SIG is always excellent. Always. But in this he was on another level. It was a transcendent performance. It’s worth enduring the show for him alone. Like watching Shin Hye-sun in Angel’s Last Mission.

The script is a trainwreck because they took a Japanese script, took out its most important element, and then replaced it with something general and banal because they thought it would better suit he Korean sensibility. As such, the back half is a nonsensical road to nowhere.

I can’t say anymore because I’m already bordering on spoiling it.

          4
          5

I did not know it was a remake! I’ll try to find the original but maybe you can explain your idea better on the recap with a nice warning before anyone gets too much information. Besides, if you’ve been through Habaek and some of Born Again, this will be easy, I think. 😛

            1

I don’t think it was recapped. I did review it at the time although I now realise I opted for a spoiler free review.
            https://mydramalist.com/profile/ChinguMode/review/42485

I might find some time to review it on my blog and I’ll let you know when it’s up. That way people can choose to read it if they want and there won’t be spoilers on the site.

Forget what I said, I thought you were talking about the first episodes of this new show kkk which was on another thread. Sorry, silly mistake. Yes about Million Stars, he was perfect in it and the writers turned the script into stupidity but it was still worth it because of his performance.

            1
            0

I think I’m still invested in this blog post now though…
But if you’re talking about Doom, then I agree it was a very enjoyable first week.

Your reply gives me such joy because you have such great taste 😊. Shin Hye Sun is one of the few actresses I would endure a show for.

            0

Yesss! I stopped where “you know what😒” poked “you know who🥺” on the streets to come here and see if I’m the only confused person. Like what was the reason?? He’s being super hypocritical and possessive. And what’s with all the childhood secrets? It’s been twelve episodes, I would assume it’s past time the show lets me in on some of them. 🙄

        1
        2

🤔 very, very plausible. He was really cute in Shopping Prince which was the first thing I saw him in, then I watched Doom and I was pushed into the SIG rabbit hole. I’m honestly not sure if he’s hot or I’m just lonely. Probably both tbh 😆

please just watch SIG in Reply 1997. period.

Does anyone know how I can get past the 200 word limit for my fan wall? Because I have a rant to go on and I can only get the first two sentences in. Anyway Flower of Evil rant below. Fans assemble! ⏬

So, about that rant session I promised…It was supposed to be fangirling, then it became a rant, then just no words because how do I even express what I feel after episode 13????? I know I had something to say about episode 12 but I can’t even remember what happened in it (mostly because of episode 13 but also because I had so much real-life going on in the time it took me to finally see the episodes.) It’s just so 😭😭😣🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️😫😟😕😲😲😲😲😲😲😲😲😰😰😱😱😦😭😭😭😭😭😭😭. I’m sorry for all the emojis but I don’t know what else to do. It’s all just so…*waves hands in frustration then sighs*
It was frustrating enough to watch Hyun Soo fall into that trap like Alice in Wonderland but that last scene!!! It took me over 40 minutes to get through the last 10 minutes because I kept rewinding every shot (and also because I kept blinking out of disbelief and because I was admiring the cinematography, the use of depth of field, the focus, framing, lighting, the acting, the color of the shot, the acting!… but that’s another rant 😅) I know they basically took it all back in the preview but man, that scene was artfully done. (The pulling of the wires and the cut to black? Her sigh echoing like a dying breath with that black screen giving me “Everything ends here” vibes? Yes! We love a show that knows it’s technical work. I really need to find out who the cinematographer for this is and basically everyone else on the camera). Anyway, I think I’ve spent all my frustration and excitement on this awkwardly long post 😅. I’ll get back to business now 🙃

    2
    1

I just wanted to add, the writing though 😍. Putting that scene with his father in the arrest scene. That was really clever. And the way the director handled it 😍😍😍. Pure art! Plus the actor!! He ~killed~ that monologue. When he was looking straight at the camera slightly off-center so it was like he was talking directly to the viewer– *chef’s kiss* Ugh, I’m still so excited 😆

      1
      1

P.S. At this point the Baeks should start a business – in murder and cover-ups lol. I didn’t expect that level of planning from them especially that ****** Hee Seong. He even thought about the camera outside and placed the notebook by the body smh. I hate him but I have to admire his brains. I’d want him on my side in a fight. Also, who knows who was at Hae Soo’s house? I thought it was Yeom Sang Chul but he was at the hospital. The most likely person is Hee Seong but I dunno…wasn’t he busy framing Hyun Soo for murder at the time? Also, does he smoke? I mean he did just wake up from a coma. That doesn’t sound very healthy…🤔
Okay, I’ll leave now. Sorry 😅

In total agreement. Loving it. Loving the developments. Thank you for pointing out the cinematography.

Type up your rant on a separate writing program (can be Word doc or NotePad, etc.), highlight & copy it using your MOUSE, then paste it onto your Dramabeans fan wall, again, using your MOUSE before hitting “Post”
