Best confession and best couple this year for me is Ki Seon-gyeom and Oh Mi-joo of RUN ON. My favorite thing about Run On was the way communication was handled between the characters, no flowery ways and dancing around issues. It felt real and meningful and it reminded me of real life. Sometimes it’s harsh and sometimes it cuts to the chase, even though it’s awkward. This really appeals to me as I generally try to avoid speaking in sub-text and have a difficulty understanding people trying to give me subtle hints. Mi-joo and Seon-gyeom were always direct with one another and avoided many stupid miss-understandings and the dreaded noble idocy. I felt I could relate and understand where they were coming from with every conversation they had.
Above all other drama, the show who won my heart this year was the 2018 cdrama BLOODY ROMANCE. It was tightly written, bold, dark, artistic and majestic. I usually prefer romantic drama and despite it’s name this is a show in serious lack of it. Instead, it features political intrigue and pure madness. It also holds my favorite male character in any drama, ever. Gong Zi, played to perfection by Wang Duo, is the second lead; a blind prince hidden away in a village of assassins and a master of tactics, big and small. Although there are many well-written characters in this show, his is a character you grow to have many a complex feelings for.
I’m usually a dedicated follower of the OTP train from the start and the only couple which took some time to warm up to this year was Chu Li and Zhou Chuan from MOONLIGHT.
Hadn’t the praise of beanies urged me to continue despite Esther Yu’s nail-grating baby-cute voice, I barely would have made it through the first two episodes, let alone discovered this lovely pairing. Chu Li and Zhou Chuan feel in love early on with each other’s alter ego and after some stupidness on Zhou Chuan’s part, also became a couple. But, they also had great ambition as individuals and managed to keep professional enough to be able to work together. A lot pertaining to Chu Li’s fervent ambition to be the very best editor that she could be. As a female lead, she was inspiring and never lost track of her priorities.
I know it’s an unfinished show, but I have rarely been so touched by an OST as the one featured in RAINLESS LOVE IN A GODLESS LAND. There is a grand spectrum of feelings conveyed in the tracks and their instrumental BGMs which are at times bleak, hopeful and comforting. There is also different genres blended into the music, primarly traditional, folk music style with a modern computer-made effect. I have a fairly ungifted ear for music, but the soothing feeling of most tracks resonate in an emotional way for me.
There needs to be an honorary mention to VINCENZO, the musical director was a bit genius. I really liked how opera as a theme was handled both story wise as well as utilized in a number of ways through music. The show was such a spectacle and opera highlighted this. The show simply went for it, 100%.
Day 5- The drama that will always live in your memory.
The drama that took me by surprise this year is SCRIPTING YOUR DESTINY. Another beanie mentioned it on ’What we’re watching’ during the mess that was DOOM AT YOUR SERVICE as a show of similar thematics, so I decided to check it out. That show struck such a chord with me, not in the least for having a sad ending. I find stories about life and fate most poignant when they end up like life usually does, somewhat complicated and not without repercussions. Although I cried rivers in the small hours of the night after having binged the whole show in one night, I have nothing but fond memories left of it.

Day 4 – That mess you watched and you still wonder why.
For me, the biggest mess of 2021 was I MARRIED THE ANTI-FAN. I’ve become skilled at dropping drama but this drama kept me hanging on to hope that the second leads would change. They didn’t. They moved a smidge towards more becoming more tolerable people but were toxic to themselves and their environment throughout. And sadly, that’s most of what I remember of the show. Honorable mentions to MYSTERIOUS LOVE but I had such a crush on the second lead male that he saves the entire show.
Day 3: The drama with the best costumes / wardrobe.
I think I’m gonna have to go with JUN JUI LING on this one. Some of the costumes were exquisite, this is my favorite. The details!
Day 2: ML you will never forget.
Steven Zhang in THE DAY OF BECOMING YOU. This is a body-swap drama and what he does with the male lead is nothing short of extraordinary.

Write somewhere else and copy paste. Even writing in a reply works.

Type it somewhere else, then paste WITH THE MOUSE. Do not touch the keyboard after you paste. (This is for Windows, not sure about Macs, phones, etc)

You mean right click and paste doesn’t work from your touchpad? Or maybe you edited the text after pasting – deleting a space or something?
