2024 Round Up Day 1

My Favorite Drama

Tell Me That You Love Me
This drama was and is excellence in the plethora of dramas that aired this year. I loved the romance. I loved the fact that it immersed me into this romance that unfolded between Jin-woo and Mo-eun. I loved the fact that they had real problems that comes from actual differences. It wasn’t made up at all. I loved the conversation where they broke up. I loved the conversation where Seo-kyung apologized for her actions. I loved the writing. I loved the direction. I loved the cinematography. I loved the fact that once in a while, the drama takes us into the world of the deaf and even though we are hearing viewers, we become deaf in the intimate deaf man’s world.

Tell Me That You Love Me is one of the best surprises of the year for me. I knew nothing and was expecting nothing. And I got EVERYTHING. All the characters were wonderfully written. Probably the only drama this year that made me feel as invested in its second leads as in the main couple. I just wanted them all to be happy.

And I loved it’s commentary on communication. This show made me want to be a better listener for my loved ones. And it also gave me comfort about the times I don’t feel understood… A very reflective experience. Just a wonderful show.

I’m still waiting for the Seo Kyeong x Jin Woo college days spin off, tho…

Tell Me That You Love Me was both a conversation and letter I penned to those dear to me. It worded things so concisely and beautiful, with a lot of thought. They felt so real.

Tell Me That You Love Me set the bar for all other Kdramas for 2024.
    It was so beautifully relatable.

I’ve stopped refreshing. It is the day I have an epistle that WWW decides to show up late🙂

      1

It has changed to daylight saving time recently and now I have to wait until 12am my time for posts like OT, WWW and Drama chat.

By the way, I don’t see your profile pic anymore?!

    1
    3

Its still there. Sohn Ho-jun booked the whole space in my profile picture.

I figured it was a time zone change issue when I saw the timestamp of my response to @midnight. I was used to 1 PM in my time zone I didn’t know there’s now a +1. I haven’t been WWW present for a while if not I’d have known way earlier.

I guess it’s one of DB glitches. But thanks to that, now I know who is in your profile picture, which I’d always wondered 🙂

I choose just the perfect dramas to start the last quarter. This plus Cinderella at 2PM are just what I needed to break the short break.
Shin Hye-sun is a blast. SLS activated.

Dear Hyeri

I’m into it, too, even though I definitely have some reservations about the whole premise and even with Shin Hye-sun’s performance at times. And I not only waaaaaay prefer the romance with Kang Hoon’s character (not sure it technically counts as SLS since we basically have two FLs) but seriously dislike Jung Hyun-oh as a character and the glimpses we’ve been given of their relationship in the past are very off-putting.

Yet I’m still intrigued and plan to watch next week.

I am not totally into it. It’s intriguing enough but also I don’t like the male lead and the female lead.
Kang Hoon is the reason I will be continuing. But we all know how this is gonna end.

Who exactly is the 2ML? I predict he is the real ML because they both have dead siblings and the Hyun-oh is not acting like a lead.

    1
    1

I see 3 Male leads. 1) ML: Hyun Oh
      2ML / Kang Hoon’s character
3ML: other announcer who likes her and accompanies her to the ocean shoot.

Since the scar was Hyeri’s and there was no scar on her during the treatment we can presume Joo Eun-ho is the real person. And Hyeri is the other version who will eventually disappear.

I agree, sadly. But I will say that the set-up so far, along with the flashbacks, do not paint a picture of true love between Hyun-oh and Eun-ho. I’m hoping that that’s deliberate, and the end game is not a reconciliation between these two. I find them absolutely grating together.

They reminded me of the main leads in ‘I need romance 2012’.(that drama also had LJW) I hated the leads there and wished they ended up together because I didn’t want them to ruin other people’s life. I get that feeling from these two.

I haven’t even watched the episodes. Just snippets here and there and I already prefer the SL’s character. For some reason I never really warm up to the Lee Jin Wook’s characters.

Dunno how true the image is but…

If you think Seok-ryu has it hard, this will be one real Mom’s Friend’s Son.

Yeah, but does she have wedding invitations to hand out? I’ve heard that’s an unbeatable move.

I’m afraid but topping it with grandbabies is the only thing that can top this. The invitations will pass. You see those grandbabies, they won’t.

Both styling accentuates the actors. I’m team ponytail all the way – both style and character.

I’ve been catching snippets of It’s Okay To Not Be Okay on Facebook and I’ve come to a few conclusions.

1. I’m this close to watching it.
2. Seo Yea-ji’s chemistry with Oh Jung-se is off the charts. (The major reason I want to tune in) I hope there’s more in there than Facebook showed me.
3. I don’t know how Oh Jung-se did it, but he’s gold. Now, I feel bad not bad for not continuing Revenant. Occultic horror ain’t my thing.
4. Seo Yea-ji is an actress. I’ll make sure I find time to finish Eve.

It’s Okay is one of my top 10 most favorite k-dramas! If you’re enjoying the snippets, you’re likely to love the whole thing. It IS an unusual story, so if you find the first episode a little off-putting, I recommend trying the next 2-3 before deciding whether or not to drop it 🙂

It’s truly a great drama! And totally educational–I learned what sound a deer makes on this drama. Until then I had no idea deer made sounds at all!

#2 is the biggest highlight, imo. Not only the actors are great, but the relationship of those two characts was so wonderlful…

I’ve watched You Are My Spring 5 entering 6 times already. And I can’t get enough of it every single time.

I’m dragging through Find Me In Your Memory though. I have a hard time connecting with Ha-jin despite finding her story interesting and new in my watching experience.

It is exactly as I predicted it their office couple story would unfold.

And while I can\’t wrap my head around why he hasn\’t moved on, I understand why he hasn\’t. A real life scenario like this was narrated by my high school maths teacher. It was the life of a colleague who as at the time he related the story to us in class, was still unmarried. The only difference in the story was that both individuals felt a connection. In Good Partner\’s, it is one sided which makes it more weird.

No Yeong-won is one of the dumbest psychology consultants I’ve encountered.

For someone who has a career in psychology, she’s too weak.

In stark contrast to her is her MIL – South Korea’s Agatha Christie. Except for the puppeteering way she manipulated major events in the family – No’s father’s death, No joining their family, her son’s ghost career – I’m willing to forgive all of that because I love the way she’s handling matters.

Between the two women, No is bringing the family to ruin and Hong is trying to save it.

When we were greeted with No’s cheshire cat smile in episode 7, I was very glad that finally the psychologist in her is starting to show. And she went on an all-time dip after that. The most recent one that made me look at No with this scornful pity is the first interaction between she and So-yi.

The moment she found the similarities between her opening words and Lee Se-na’s, the sensible thing I expected Yeong-won to say was: “Lee Se-na sent you, right.” Instead, I’m treated to this dumb psychologist talking about future or no future. Negotiating with your son’s blackmailer, especially when you know who might have sent her, what she had done to your husband, and what she has been capable of. No Yeong-won is slow, eternally naive and quintessentially dense – a huge shame on the psychology profession. I’m so pissed that I might have to watch her silly decisions for the next few episodes.

Honestly, I’m more interested in Hong Sa-kang’s proactive methods than another second of Yeong-won acting all “pristine.”

And please, Bitter Sweet Hell, bring back Jung Woong-in. Don’t tell me his scene in episode 3 was but a cameo.

A very wonderful nod to my 2 favorite characters in the show, and a special one to Chansung for him physical comedy.

It was “spoiled” for me. I read they were going to do that a couple days ago.

      I did hear it too.
I actually was on the lookout as well but not so actively. And the score was rather subtly introduced. Were I not listening, I’d not not have caught it.

It made me jump – I didn’t know they were going to include it in so I played a comical game of ‘is that…no surely not…but wait is it?? it is! right?’ 😆
