    Shin Hye-Sun is fre@kin amazing in the drama. #Quality acting! I fell in love with her character the first few minutes they showed her. Ji-An deserves all the good things in life, seriously. I need her to be happy. Show, please give her a much-deserved happy ending ;A;

Hello, fellow beanies! Anyone wants to flail with me over Prison Playbook/Wise Prison Life? I saved some screenshots from the last two episodes that I absolutely adore. I also have questions about some scenes. Feel free to answer on the comment spam posts<3

I thought I misread the subtitle when they mentioned this restaurant. Apparently, they were serious about the ‘one table’ reservation! Have you guys seen this kind of restaurant setup before? :O

I have seen restaurants like this before! I only wondered how he could afford it on a prison guard’s salary …

      0
      2

Hmmm, maybe he still has some of that payout money he got from his start-up company in college. Do you have an idea how much a reservation is for restaurants like this?

        0
        1

Well, the cost of one dinner would have to cover a day’s rent on the premises and the salary of the waiter in the corner and they would need to make a profit too. Unless it’s somewhere totally unfashionable of course and people have to travel far to get there.

On a completely unrelated note, how awesome would it be to have the job of that waiter. You get to totally listen in to conversations of people who want to be especially private. From marriage proposals to corporate take-over shenanigans.

          2
          1

Thank you for your response. Wow.. that’s one h3ll of a dinner reservation. *checks my money* Yep, I’m okay with fast food restaurants for now.

HAH! You also get all the tips so, win-win?! We should have a character like this in dramaland.

I think it’s not about prison guard’s salary, but Jun ho is living well, he has a nice house too. Jun ho economic is well enough, and he is enjoying his life, everytime he try some work he easily feeling bored, he can earn money without any difficulty, we don’t knkw how many job that he do before being a prison guard.

“Jack of all trades, master of none.”

          that sounds like Lee Joon-ho.

          2
          1

That’s right. I found someone like him in real life, and when I show him the conversation between Jae hee and jun ho, he say that it’s like jae hee give him advice and slap him.

OMG (≧艸≦*) this scene was so hilarious. Hanyang pulling himself together because someone mentioned his Ji-won’s name. Officer Song fooling around with him like this got me feeling so soft ♥(ノ´∀`) I’d like to think they’ve done this kind of routine a few times in the past XD

Thanks to Hanyang we had some of the best scenes in the show. Everyone was amused and at the same time equally annoyed by his actions. He is for sure one of the best characters ever and he didn’t deserve that ending!

      5
      2

Hear! Hear! He gave me quality entertainment whenever he was on screen. He totally made the show better for me. Sigh. It’s so hard investing feelings to precious characters like this. We should have known we were in for a heartbreak the moment we started to enjoy his character > . <

I think I saw a BTS that indicated that even Lee Kyu-hung didn’t know this was going to happen until that episode!

I still feel cheated by Shin PD with that ending! I want to understand but my heart can’t. T_T

        1

    If only…
If Ji-won spoiled him with the surprise, would Hanyang still choose the wrong path? If Ji-won told him he was giving him a ring, would Hanyang end up ruining himself again? I couldn’t help but think of another scenario where Ji-won gave in and showed him the ring, a scenario where Ji-won insisted to wait for Hanyang outside of the prison, a scenario where Ji-won got to tell Hanyang his feelings in words, a scenario where Ji-won assured Hanyang they’d make it work … uuuugh this is why Kang-doo (Just Between Lovers) hate “What ifs” SIGH. What do you guys think?

    3

    4
    3

This was so cruel! But I guess the writer, being korean, didn’t have another choice as to rip our hearts out with this moment. This country has such strict laws for drugs and this moment was a powerful message on how drugs can destroy your life and your happiness. When you see it as a social and political statement no other outcome was possible and the what ifs make it even more haunting.

      4
      1

If this show has done anything really right (besides many, many other things), than it has shown us that drugs are the worst poison in the world and if they took a hold of you it is nearly impossible to let go. Hanyang served as warning sign, that you can’t take this problem lightly.
And still I just wished for his happiness so much, because he tried soooooooo freaking hard. But then he couldn’t do this by himself. He only overcame the dependency of his body, which is a remarkable feat, but not of his mind. For that he would have needed professional help.

        4
        1

          And that’s what I’m worried about. What if they placed him again in a prison and not a rehab center? Is he going to experience the never ending cycle of his drug dependency? My only wish is for him to finally get professional help and truly overcome his addiction. He deserves a second chance ;;

          1

            Prison Playbook: series 2.

Hanyang has a really tough time in prison. JW refuses to come see him and his parents no longer support him either. Then, he’s placed back in the cell with Capt Yoo who beats the cr*p out of him for taking drugs again.

But Crony is also still there and shows him that it’s all about gaining self-respect, after he’s learned this lesson himself from Je-hyuk. This sets Hanyang on the road to realise the underlying problem of his addiction. That he doesn’t need to get himself beaten up to gain attention. That he can admit that he does feel pain and doesn’t have to suppress the pain through drugs. He now also knows that he’ll always be an addict and the next time he’s released checks himself into a rehab clinic immediately.

And lives happily ever after. The end.

So… I could write an essay about this but I won’t. First of all, I want to say that I clearly did not want this to happen. But when it did, it was heart-breakingly well done. It showed how hard it is not to give in to temptation once outside, when the real stuff is right there. The ring wouldn’t have made a difference. He’d had that conversation with Ji-won at the visit before, where JW basically said: if you stay clean, we get back together, so he knew what the deal was. But the drugs were in front of him and he gave in. So heartbreaking. So true to real life. And then, when it happened, that he was immediately arrested was the best outcome for all concerned. Otherwise he would have gone to the meeting with JW and his parents high and would have tried to hide what he’d done.

      5
      1

        Okay – so I wrote an essay, after saying I wouldn’t ;P

        4
        2

Just want to drop by and say the essay is well-written!

          2
          0

B— but what if they had an even deeper conversation about this? He needed one last assurance that they’d make it work. What if Ji-won let him hear the words he wanted to hear before he went out of the room. What if— okay, I need to stop. I clearly understand what you mean but my brain won’t stop making excuses :/ And you’re right, the fact that he got immediately arrested was better than seeing him break his parents and Ji-won’s heart. I don’t need that kind of depressing scene.

I loved reading your thoughts. Thank you for writing an essay. Keep them coming <3

          2

To be honest, one of the things that miffed me the most about this was the fact that it was a police set-up. I mean, I get that they’re trying to get druggies in action, but hello, I’m sure they would’ve know that Hanyang JUST got out of jail. Setting him up with a drug dealer like that is just well…setting him up. How do they know that Hanyang would contact his friend again? Or that he was planning to get drugs once we got out of jail? Those were all speculation at best and it’s horrible for them to do it. It’s like the police putting food in front of a starving kid and then arresting him for eating it without permission later on. Can you blame the poor boy when you just dangled temptation like that?

      2
      1

I don’t think that the police were targeting Hanyang specifically.

They used the dealer to entrap other druggies & dealers and Hanyang was just the easiest victim for his former mate. His mate knew that the moment that he came out of prison was when he’d be most vulnerable as he would have been with the ‘real stuff’ for a while.

Awww, this gal. The scene where she was practicing how to greet Min-chul bear was so adorable and heartwarming. The way the show introduced her character made me go “Ah yes, she is indeed Min-chul’s daughter.” Such a bright and positive kiddo.

    4

    6
    1

I adored her from the moment she stepped foot into the visiting room. I have a little head canon were she and Jean Valjean fall in love and being jjust adorably happy with their Appa 😀 Don’t tell me that it isn’t true.

      5
      2

I support this story-line. I was thinking the same thing when Lt. Paeng mentioned that Jean Valjean and his daughter were both waiting outside. I’m sure that while waiting for Minchul bear, they were having their own moments <3

        2
        0

Me too. I thought about this too. I try to imagine that they are fall in love and living together. Min cul hyung deserve to be happy after all of the things that happen to him.

        2
        0

LMAO these two! I had hope that Law Man would be able to handle the catch but of course, he wasn’t trained to do this so he cracked XD I loved how Crony looked at Je-hyuk first before saying, “It doesn’t hurt.”, like he was showing off to his father or something.

    5

Wow 👏👏👏 Looney really doesn’t learn 🤣🤣🤣 I totally did not expect that hit. He sure has guts.
*inserts another ‘What ifs’* What if they did throw him a (touching) goodbye party? What if they gave him an intense one-on-one talk before he got released? Would these moments help him be strong and resist the temptation that awaits for him outside prison? Sigh. Maybe not, because he was in the wrong facility. I know a few beanies already pointed this out. Hanyang should be in a rehabilitation center for him to get the proper help he needs >.<

Saddest heart fingers I’ve ever scene so far ;A; But okay, he looked so good in that leather jacket *A*

AH! This scene. I’d like to think that the car door was locked and Hanyang was totally cornered into giving in to temptation. But of course, that wasn’t the case. It was his addiction who couldn’t open the door and resist the drugs. It was his choice to fall into the sh!thole again. I know the show wanted this issue to be as realistic as possible but I just couldn’t help but be selfish and wish for him to have his happy ending (one that we could actually celebrate) They could have done that falling back to addiction off-cam or idk, as something that happened later in his story-line (one that we didn’t have to witness). My heart needed to see Hanyang and Ji-won hug or smile at each other again. D@rn it.

aaaaand this is why Joon-ho is also my dream guy. He’s so considerate of others. He’s not only smart but he also has the heart to deal with everyone around him. The whole scene was so sweet, adorable and heart-fluttering. Jung Kyung-ho never fails to make my heart go… (´⌣`ʃƪ) and (⺣◡⺣)♡* <3

At this point I was already soooo in love with him, that this was just a perfect little cherry on top, but if I hadn’t been this whole moment would have done me in.

      2
      1

When he leaned in and asked for permission… I just melted (ノ∀`♥) Lee Joon-ho is such a good brother, best friend and lover. The whole package, really.

        2
        0

I did not invest feelings in the love-line but I thought this scene was incredibly sweet. I love the way Je-hyuk loves with all his heart.

I really adored them as a couple. In the beginning I didn’t think I would, but then I totally hoped for their happiness. They were just so adorable together.

      5
      1

They’re perfect for each other! Je-hyuk needs someone like Ji-ho in his life. And Ji-ho, well, she already said she’s so in love with him she’d give it her all. I’m glad they showed us their relationship development at the end. Je-hyuk meeting Ji-ho after losing the game. They can now move forward and face other life challenges together.

    # OFFICER SOFTIES. I swear, these correction officers are the biggest softies in Kdramaland! It was heartwarming seeing them celebrate the good things with the squad <3

    12

    9
    1

How did they ever get into this profession? They are so freaking cute it is insane. This trio has such a funny dynamic.

      4
      2

What I found interesting is that people kept saying that being a correction officer was quite a good job. Definitely one of many cultural differences.

Or maybe that was as unrealistic is having really lovely prisoners?

        3
        2

Yes, I was for sure surprised when they said it was a good profession. Like seriously? They have to look after criminals…

On the other hand, I do believe that there must be quite a few decent people who are in prison of bad luck or some stupid mistake, they normally wouldn`t do…it was a bit unrealistic that all of those came to the same cell, but who cares? Those interactions were awesome and they made it extra special when “Bald guy” (I don’t remember his name right now) came into the cell and the whole dynamic changed and then they just changed him into another adorable character that could be redeemed.

Man what a great drama! Still feeling the after glow.

          3
          1

Crony? He gave me the biggest hate/love feels swing of any character in any drama ever lol.

I liked the little moment when the cellmate from the first cell was shown to be scamming Kaist’s ex-wife. Some leopards clearly didn’t change their spots.

            2
            0

Perhaps they were referring to the stability of the job and the benefits that come with it? Correction officers are government employees, aren’t they? And from what I’ve gathered, Koreans think highly of people who are employed by the government so maybe that’s why everyone kept saying it’s a good job.

          0
          0

Right?! They made life in prison so much easier for prisoners (okay, the good ones) Perfect cast!

        1
        0

Good things happen to good people.
    The way he said, “Hyung~” in this scene totally got me crying my heart out. I’m happy he met Je-hyuk (in prison) and that he turned out to be a good person ;________;

This was such a well done scene! The actor has been a quite good surprise and I’m looking forward to see more of him.

      3
      1

I checked the actor’s Asianwiki page and wow… I wouldn’t have guessed that this was his first drama @.@ He looked so natural acting his scenes 👏👏👏 Yes! I’m also looking forward to his future projects.

        0
        2

Officer Song is just like Looney… minus the dope. I actually enjoy his ramblings because he’s kinda cute when he rants. He’s also got that “chatty” voice to sell the character’s annoying habit. Hah. I think I’d enjoy having this loquacious guy around in real life. Do you guys have an Officer Song in your circle of friends? XD

I also liked that he gave a little preferential treatment to Captain Yoo. The little snacks and the fried chicken.

      3
      1

YES! I thought it would only last for a couple of episodes but then he was so kind, sweet and adorable with Captain Yoo the until the end. I love their interactions as well <3

        2
        0

now THIS.. this was totally unexpected 🤣😂
Two things came to mind when I watched this scene:

    1) Wow… it must be really hard/embarrassing for Lt. Paeng to say, “Thank you.”, that he just resorted to giving a heart-finger.

    2) Heart-fingers make everything better. Is this considered aegyo? Okay, his attempt of doing this kind of aegyo gesture is him trying to have a buddy-buddy relationship with Joon-ho, right? riiiigghhhhht? XDDD

    15

    4
    1

The second heart was even better and how hard he was trying to make it with such a dorky smile!

      5
      1

Precious Lt. Paeng. Joon-ho’s reactions were epic! He fell for it the second time! He totally looked serious when Lt. Paeng called him again XD Aigoooo, this love-hate relationship *shakes head*

        2
        0

/sCREAAAAAAAAAAAAMS/ My BL heart totally squealed when I watched this scene (ノ∀`♥) Ah, finally~ these two! I’m totally inside an AU where lawyer guy is secretly in love with Capt. Yoo’s brother (⊃‿⊂) I can’t help making up scenarios like this. It’s in my blood to automatically think gay scenarios whenever I see two men together. #Notsorry Heeh.

That scene where the victim’s mother gives him money to buy a coat totally did me in.

      5
      1

When Lawyer guy commented about his jacket, I can’t believe I ignored his awkward response and thought nothing of it. It was because he was struggling financially and couldn’t afford extra expenses like buying himself a warmer/thicker jacket. So when the scene with the mother happened, I was full on screaming at my computer, “Take it! Take it! Take it!” and when he did, the floodgates opened T______T That was such a touching scene ;; Also, the money… I’m glad he took it so he doesn’t have to worry about financial matters for the mean time.

        He’s such a good brother > . <

        2
        0

Wow.. Jung Hae-in! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 Props to him for doing a great job in portraying this character. He was amazing as Captain Yoo 👍👍👍👍👍 And this last scene totally sealed the deal for me. I got carried away by the emotional pull this scene brought us. I believe he’s now more than ready for a lead role! Go, Hae-in! Go get your food from your noona!

    17

    4
    1

I feel like he will be the next song jong ki. I mean, with his aura, his hard work, his ability, his face and voice, who knows right?

      2
      1

Yeah, who knows! I’m glad he’s getting a lot of projects now. I can’t wait to see his look on Pretty Noona Who Buys Me Food <3

        1
        1

    Captain Na. Enough said.

But okay, clearly not enough for my heart.

He was so annoying but was incredibly good at being annoying so I couldn’t outright hate him. I was more annoyed at myself because I found him attractive (hot, even) and then I just let go of the negative vibes and embraced his character. I wanted the Warden to be all cringe-y whenever Je-hyuk was in his office just to see Captain Na’s reactions. He’s such a diva with his resting beesh face 😂 I have to say though, I was prepared for a sob!fest for his character but I’m glad the show didn’t go there and gave us a way more satisfying ~backstory~ for him. Did you guys notice the camouflage pencil case on his younger version’s desk? I squealed at his teeny tiny detail of the character. Consistency 👌👌👌

    18

    2
    1

The child actors were perfect mini-versions of Captain Na and his best friend. It was totally adorbs.

      3
      1

YES! I’m glad the show decided to include this ~backstory~ It was so much fun to watch! I replayed it over and over because of how accurate the younger versions were.

        1
        0

THIS SCENE WAS CRACTASTIC XD Even though we’ve already established that Je-hyuk isn’t that bright, I still can’t help but be amazed when he does things like this. He totally did that on purpose, right? Forgetting to mention Joon-ho as a payback for not telling him about his relationship with Je-hee? And at the same time, giving Joon-ho an opening to confess. AH, #bestbromance !

    19

    4
    1

And in the end he STILL forgot to mention Joon-ho’s name during the interview hahahha. or maybe it was petty revenge…

      3
      1

Petty revenge, it was. At first I thought he was saving his gratitude in private and then they showed the scene with his sister and everything clicked XD Aigooo, Jehyuk-ah.

*cheers* He totally rocked this look. I’m glad he was given a second chance to turn his life around. Good for you, Law Man 🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉🎊 (now, see? this is how you give second chances to characters ;A; show, please reflect on what you did to Hanyangie <—- still really bitter about his end game)

*cheers harder* KIM JE-HYUK! KIM JE-HYUK! KIM JE-HYUK!!! 🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉🎊 Whooooooh! Totally worth the watch, this drama. It was so satisfying to see him on the mound again. He totally deserved this comeback! I’ll continue rooting for him in this dramaverse.

Yoo Ji-Tae x Woo Do-Hwan = pure genius
Let me send my gratitude to whoever thought of pairing these two in a drama m(_._)m. Oh goody, my computer screen was handsomely blessed the whole time. They looked so amazing together, especially during those super intense scenes— which okaaay, happened every episode LOL so yeah, they consistently made it good for me. I’m looking forward to more crazy good pairings like this one. Dramaland, give it to us soon! GIF credit to xyzlady2 Zavannah on aminoapps 🙂 [3/3 flail post]

Please, someone tell me I wasn’t the only one pissed at Eui-hyun in this scene— the whole scene. First thought that came to my mind when he asked that, “What a f a$$h-” ノಠ_ಠノ

Seriously? Your childhood friend, best friend, just came to you, devastated, crying his heart out because of how f-ed up his life is getting, confided in you with the most horrible thing that could happen between a person and his/her mom and what? wHAT? WHAT?!?! Your initial reaction was to ask about the girl? C’mon! We know, the whole world knows Jung-joo is hurting but dUUUDEEE WHAT ABOUT YOUR BEST FRIEND?! (ノ;;)ノ~┻━┻ That was so f insensitive. Han-joon even seemed a bit taken aback with the question like he wasn’t expecting that reaction out of all things he just confessed and when he realized Eui-hyun was serious about brushing off his pain, he just gave in and realized, “Right. We have to think of the girl. My feelings aren’t even worth giving a second thought. Yeah, yeah, let me swallow my pain and talk to her about this sh-“. Seriously, Eui-hyun. That was just disappointing. #NothingToLose

2
6

I don’t know the context of this scene but is it possible that Eui-hyun doesn’t want Han-joon to wallow so he acts harsh and brings up Jung-joo because he knows that’s the one thing that will distract Han-joon from the pain?

    0
    1

Oh, Mary. I don’t know ;; If only he asked this for the sake of distracting him but Eui Hyun seemed totally focused on everything that would affect Jung-joo. I mean, obviously he cares about Han-joon but the scene just highlighted how he’s more concerned about the girl than his best friend’s sufferings. In this scene, Han-joon was in the middle of ranting about the horrible truth he just found out and you know when you have those moments of “If onlys.”, and you just want to be selfish and forget about the rest of the world? In my POV, he was doing just that.

Hanjoon: I shouldn’t have known this. You know how important my mom is and what she means to me. If I hadn’t found this out until the end…

and just like cold water being poured on his poor, poor, self

Eui Hyun: Then what about Judge Lee? If you hide truth with lies just for your sake, Judge Lee must live her life without ever knowing the truth.

Eeeeeek. No. Let’s talk about Han-joon first. -____-

For a moment when I read your reply, I was half convinced that maybe Eui-hyun did mean well but then I remember at end of this scene, he dropped another bomb on Han-joon that added to the weight he was already struggling on carrying.

I beat my runny nose and binge-watched #Jugglers. Thank you for the awesome beanies who posted their flailings on the fanwall. I’m totally enjoying the office romance of our precious Racoon and Mr. Nitpick. They’re adorable together.

This specific scene caught my attention though. There was a comment on “What we’re Watching” about the use of the umbrella scene here and when I finally got to that part, I feel like umbrella-nim was used perfectly. The moment they smiled at each other under the umbrella and came to a silent understanding …

CW: Are you sure?
