I feel like a traitor BUT the best dramas for my sanity in 2019 were CDramas: Untamed for epic story telling, Go Go Squid for happy feels. Is it time to think of not just Kdrama but Asian drama?
Not sure, but I suspect that the site’s owners have some special connection to S. Korea (govt, networks, agencies, PPL sponsors, etc, etc). So non-Korean discussions might be an unwelcome distraction, tolerated because they want the site to be popular and friendly.
PS: a really clever person might be able to pin down the ownership a bit by tracking which shows get lots of attention and which get neglected, an looking for patterns of links to specific companies.
I’d bring my C drama babbling to another website but there’s unfortunately none that has a community like DB.
I didn’t consciously made an effort to watch C dramas but this year kdramas were really underwhelming and C dramaland had some really amazing ones.
On another note, I noticed some new beanies whose posts seem to promote kdramas. They don’t discuss or engage(at least from the little that I’ve observed), they just post on fanwall and that’s it. I was wondering if these were ‘engaged’ to promote more on kdrama?
The community here can be hardly found somewhere else. There are sites that do c dramas and at times T dramas too but there is nowhere as civil as it is here. Idk if there is some promotion of korean content here but I have never seen non korean drama discussion being censored in any way so DB still remains an open space.
But… What about Be melo? I will have to say this was the only kdrama that I enjoyed this year. But there were better dramas, my favorite being a Taiwanese drama and my happy go lucky show being C drama Arsenal Military Academy which I liked better than GGS but enjoyed them both. Kdramas were lackluster in leaving an impression this year like I easily got over them once they finished.
This is why I spam the fanwall with my cdrama love 😅 I’ve watched more cdramas this year than kdramas. And the last few months I’ve just not really felt like watching any kdramas.
