Stranger has never been a crowd pleasing show. Season 1 only had around one hundred comments each recap. Not only in DB, the discussion and rating for both seasons are significantly lower than many rom-com in every platform. In the sea of feel good and action-packed dramas, do we need a show that makes us feel confused, frustrated and raises many questions we could answer. Definitely YES
Stranger 2 isn’t clicking with me. Its good but its lack that edge of your seat suspense feel the first one had. I also didn’t like the writers other drama Life that much, the tone and pace kind of made me drop it. At least Stranger 2 has picked up some steam but I am still not enjoying it as much as I did season 1.
Interest. I actually couldn’t finish season 1 (I just read some summaries online about what happened, though I eventually plan on going back and trying to watch the rest). I found it needlessly convoluted and I found a lot of the plot develops under- or unmotivated. By contrast, I absolutely love season 2.
I didn’t question why it was not popular or was rated low than other shows or why some people didn’t like it. What i wanted to say is i am glad this type of drama (Stranger or Life) was made because we need it.
I actually find season 2 enthralling. I know others feel frustrated, confused, and/or impatient, but I actually quite like the suspense. I also like how the investigation goes through its motions and how the show is subjecting us to the same miasma of uncertainty the characters are being subjected to. It’s a nice reminder that there is no Archimedean point — indeed, I think the strength of this show comes from its ability to both hold onto ideals (that there is such a thing as truth, justice, etc.) while also holding onto all of the vagueness and ambiguity of real life.
I were actually trying to explain it’s not a surprise that Stranger both S1 and S2 were less talked about and lower rating than some other shows. Whether one likes a drama or not is a personal reference. Season 1 only had average rating of 5% and not until after it finished airing that more people paid attention to it. It didn’t and would never have massive rating like CLOY or even Signal but i am glad this type of show was written and produced.
FoS is not some kind of mainstream drama from the get go but there’s a recognition of the strong script that led to attracting A-list cast. It aims at audience who’d appreciate the brain teasing set up and quality production. 5% is quite a good rating for cable production especially three years earlier. Then again, dramas like this usually get its following grow after it aired due to the critical acclaim garnered. I reckon the writer has been empowered by the S1 response to pen a darker and deeper S2 – which in my book is terrific because we have far too many romcoms or melos. It is a drama treat.
We didn’t just get quality SM-YJ interaction, we got other characters noticing it! Though it was Choi Bit who’d spotted it earlier, now even Woo Tae-ha, the world’s unlikeliest shipper, is saying weirdly romantic stuff like “they seem to share everything”!
But I’m rather upset about Woo yelling at SM. I guess it isn’t personal, as Kim Sa-hyun kindly pointed out, and Woo has the additional motive of trying to remove SM from the Park Gwang-soo trial. Still… don’t fight, guys! I love you both!
I’m having so much fun with this two. Poor Shi Mok acting stoic while uri Dong Jae is being the usual weasel we know he is. Are they the truly OTP of this show?

Good to hear this familiar voice from S1
Apparently, two IG accounts are real. Many ppl left comments asking why they went to that beach and did they cut the ropes… 😜 amount of details were put in, make you feel like you were following a real event.

I’ve come across an article where the writer of Stranger/Secret Forest talked about her ideas for season 2. It’s an interesting read where she shared her belief about “going forward for a better world” and “moving toward change”. She even discussed about climate change (yes). I’m a fan of her works. I find they are often though-provoking, socially relevant, at the same time realistic, not merely finding the killer or providing a solution.

I have a feeling that FoS season 2 would be another great work of her. Please…I have faith in you, writer-nim.
Thanks for sharing! I used google translate and although the results aren’t all good, I could still follow the writing. I loved it when she said that the process is everything and you’d fail when you stop. That’s so hopeful I think. I can’t wait for this weekend! I have faith that she can’t write anything shitty. :3
Love their friendship on and off screen! It’s said their chemistry remains strong in S2 and something for the audience to look forward to. Can’t wait 😊
