I heartily agree that there is a surplus of excellent young acting talent in South Korea. These kids are so good that they often can carry and outshine their adult counterparts. As for the incredible Seo Shin Ae, not only does she deserve to win in the category of best child actress for her powerful, emotion-inducing, but also sweet and funny portrayal of Lee Bom in Thank You, (a series which I believe to have been the best of a strong 2007 crop) she should also be among those nominated for best supporting actress, regardless of age categories. The future looks every bit as bright as the present with a new group of wunderkinds poised and ready to join an already amazing stable of performers.

It does happen in the states, but I think to a much lesser degree. Like with lonelygirl on youtube, although at least in that instance there was a specific angle or gimmick to push. Korean uljjangs are fascinating in that it's based on PURE superficiality -- one picture was enough in the early days to vault an ordinary citizen into being picked up by entertainment agencies and prepped like someone who'd earned their way via auditions and talent. Perhaps it's that strange intersect that Korea has of being one of the most wired countries in the world, as well as having a well-developed entertainment industry, and a super-high emphasis placed on beauty and plastic surgery.

LW, Joe Odagiri has acted in some dramas for example Jikou Keisatsu, Satorare, Shinsengumi to name a few.
But alot of his movies are quite wird but I still watch them, I loved him in Mushishi and Shinobi
