No Gain No Love: Episodes 7-8

There seems to be two set of subs for Prime. When I watch on my laptop I get a different sub compared to when I watch on my TV bus AppleTV!! I have seen different subs for certain scenes. This has been weird. So I watch it twice at a minimum.
But yeah, one of those dramas where knowing the language would have been great.

XD I like avocado, but only in certain ways AND it has to be seasoned. I like it in savory dishes like avocado toast! Yum, just need salt and pepper. And guacamole, y'all? 😋

Sooo many PPLs in this show... I kinda cringe FF through them, but at least they're funnily done. But they sure are selling the heck out of the Didier Dubois jewellery... the rings are practically main characters for me. And though they aren't expensive like other ring placements I've seen, at least they aren't ugly like some others. (I don't remember, maybe it was King The Land? Even though it was Bulgari or something the ring was like the ugliest ever!) They even have a NGNL section on their website (yeah I googled)

The Around the World box scene was so funny! The waving flags and eyes!! Poor Ji Wook has stiff competition before he's even begun ;) Also, I keep rewatching and squeeing at new things too!

I wish Prime subtitles were better though, apart from the censorship... I feel like I'm losing a lot of the puns/ conversations because of un-nuanced translation. Like the scene where he's confessing to her mum, Prime said "I've fallen for her", but other viewers seem to have got "I'm head over over heels for her" which is a SO much more wow thing to say... I'm sure there are loads more instances that we miss out on.

Romance in the House: Episodes 11-12 (Final)

Thank you for the recap @unit! Some hyped shows this year were either disappointing or frustrating while this one stayed true to its genre and was a pleasure to watch.
Glad this ended with a happy note and was close to reality.

I don't know which streaming service you're referring to, but Amazon Prime Video has two sets of English subtitles -- one for closed captions from the dubbed English version.

For the breakfast scene (where I empathized with Ji-wook so much for continually being interrupted when he needed to relieve himself), which subs did you see?

Hui-sung: This is just poop and diarrhea arguing over which is worse.
Hae-young: Who's the poop?
Ji-wook: She's the diarrhea, right?

Hui-sung: You're both being little shits.
Hae-young: Who's a little shit?
Ji-wook: She's full of shit.

Only one is correct per what they actually say in Korean.

DNA Lover: Episodes 9-10

You know, they are almost making some interesting points about natural compatibility and to what extent people can choose to form successful deep relationships with people who are so different for them ("nature" - bonkers DNA theories - and nurture - ways of thinking/finding joy etc). I like the tension I feel between Kang-hoon being obviously the easier (better?) fit, but wondering if actually Yeon-woo and So-jin could make it work. Genuinely don't really mind how they end this as long as it is justified well.

So, so, so good! Amazing suspense. I am torn between nail biting waiting to see what will happen, and hair pulling in frustration at how furious I am at the people involved. Acting (writing direction cinematography) All SUPERB. Haven’t felt this way since Mouse…

If the example is Love Next Door, then it's really not that big of a deal to me. There were already stuff about the "romcom" aspect that already turned me off and killed my investment in the drama.

I would need another show as an example. Regardless, I can't think of it being a big deal because alot of shows nowadays have some aspect of darkness and/or melodrama (I think). I can't think of many romcoms cause I'm not into them like that but No Gain No Love has a parent with dementia and a second lead who was a victim of child abuse. Knight Flower had family members murdered. Behind your touch had a serial killer. Summer Strike had some traumatic issues that I don't remember.

It really doesn't matter to me unless it's just another bad element to a bad story. Like with Love Next Door, I don't understand why it was treated like it was; it didn't endear me to ANYONE except maybe the ex. I don't understand why it was treated like gossip fodder as well as with mockery, shame, or condescension. I guess maybe it was a way to break up Seok Ryu & her ex because "otherwise why would she leave a good guy and get with her childhood friend?"
