Lee Joo-young began her career as a model before transitioning into acting. She first gained attention in 2015 when she starred in the short film Bargain, which earned several accolades, including the Best Film Award at the 15th Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival. In 2018, she portrayed a deaf and mute drug cook in the action-crime film Believer, earning her several acting nods, including a Best New Actress nomination at the 55th Baeksang Arts Awards. That same year, she also appeared in the tvN drama Live and the KBS2 series Dance Sports Girls.


In 2020, Lee Joo-young starred in the comedy-drama film Samjin Company English Class, for which she received the Model Star Award at the 2021 Asia Model Awards. In 2024, she joined the main cast of Netflix’s black comedy thriller The 8 Show. Her performance earned her a Best Supporting Actress nomination at the 3rd Blue Dragon Series Awards.
